A bushing is used to replace the part of a steel/aluminum/etc part that is going to face the most wear because it is the point where two or more parts touch. This means that bushing are MEANT to wear out over time. You can take steps to try to lengthen their lives, but best to just let them do their thing and replace them as needed, UNLESS the user manual states you need to grease/lubricate a particular bushing. Thanks for another enjoyable video Elkskins! God bless.
I have a 2 of the GT 6000 mowers, hydrostatic and a gearbox one, I have owned the gearbox one since it was new from the Sears showroom floor, and the steering is pretty much worn out, I am going to go flange bearings and be done with it once and for all, I appreciate your videos and especially the one with you and Taryl changing out the oil on the Hydrostatic, So Thank you again for sharing your experience and videos.
If you didn't already know it's taryls' birthday, get your self some Hamms' on his party. Also agree not using grease for these kind of steering in sandy / dusty environment. A rubber shaft sealing would help protecting but no way to install, I guess.

think for bushings like sacrificial material between two pieces of more valuable/more difficult to replace/repair parts.

I had a craftsman just like yours, steering was all jacked up, i just welded it little and put in new bushings and good to go.

Grease!
If it's made to have grease it'd have a zerk and seals.
Do you have a part# for that bushing? Where dis you order it? Thanks..
Does that all have to come out just to change the sector gear?
