    Anytime anyone asks who I could meet dead or alive, I never hesitate before I say john Lennon. I'm lucky to be alive in the time that his music is alive. The Beatles, you have changed my world.

      +Ooga Blooga Was watching an interview with Neil Finn of Split Endz and Crowed House fame...and he was asked what one tune had he wished he wrote...he answered This tune! Paul was asked who he considered the best song writer....he stated Neil Finn. I have been wanting to hear this for a very long time and lo and behold this tune was suggested by You Tube...Smiling as I try to connect the dots.......Cheers Ooga Blooga!

      +Ooga Blooga I once serenaded the most beautiful (and gorgeous) young woman I've ever known; played this song for her on my guitar. We're been together ever since. That was thirty-seven years ago. I turned 64 today, and I clicked to it on youtube, came back a while later, and ...'Universe' was playing.

    Imagine waking up one morning and writing this song.
    This song captured my soul as a child of the 70's. Today it is like a diamond that never fades, no doubt one of the most beautiful mixes of music and poetry ever.

      I was lying next to my first wife in bed, you know, and I was irritated. She must have been going on and on about something and she'd gone to sleep and I'd kept hearing these words over and over, flowing like an endless stream. I went downstairs and it turned into sort of a cosmic song rather than an irritated song; rather than a 'Why are you always mouthing off at me?' or whatever, right? ...
      But the words stand, luckily, by themselves. They were purely inspirational and were given to me as boom! I don't own it, you know; it came through like that. I don't know where it came from, what meter it's in, and I've sat down and looked at it and said, 'Can I write another one with this meter?' It's so interesting: 'Words are flying [sic] out like [sings] endless rain into a paper cup, they slither while they pass, they slip away across the universe.' Such an extraordinary meter and I can never repeat it! It's not a matter of craftsmanship; it wrote itself. It drove me out of bed. I didn't want to write it, I was just slightly irritable and I went downstairs and I couldn't get to sleep until I put it on paper, and then I went to sleep.
      It's like being possessed; like a psychic or a medium. The thing has to go down. It won't let you sleep, so you have to get up, make it into something, and then you're allowed to sleep. That's always in the middle of the bloody night, when you're half awake or tired and your critical facilities are switched off.
      John Lennon, 1980

      Listened to this track whilst mulling over yesterday's events...
      ... listened to an ex-St Andrew's parishioner explain to me that the 8 hours spent by surgeons doing benelovent Thyroid surgery, could also fit in 12 orthopaedic procedures that would eventually financially reward the 'worthy'... I bid farewell to her LOVELY but naïve husband for the final time...
      ... Saw the Lads at Cherry Laughing Academy - Some obviously see through my 'delusion', but accept me as a canny lad, Some have 'delusions of grandeur'- wanting people to bow down to them, and live in big castles, some have an implanted belief of invincibility, and some think they are destined for stardom as Rock stars...
      But there is DEFINITELY a staff 'change of heart', to the enth degree. If my 'book-smarts', my physical stoicism, and engineered intimation have made a difference, SO BE IT (Amen).

    "Jai guru deva om," is the Mantra that John wrote this song around. It can be translated in a number of ways, such as -Victory to God divine! He actually felt, he noted in a "Rolling Stone," interview in 1970, that these lyrics were possibly the best poetry he had ever written! I always loved this tune. I saw a tribute a number of bands and musicians did to honor John. They did versions of his songs, and Justin Hayward, and John Lodge, from the Acid Rock band " The Moody Blues," did their version of this song, noting that they felt it was one of the most beautiful Lennon songs. I agree!

    I think these four fellas were the best musical band that ever lived. Every genre of music is touched upon in their vast repertoire both as The Beatles and in their own, individual rite. Any soul who is not a clod will love The Beatles as I do. They will have vivid memories of yesterday and today, and The Beatles will make memory soundtracks for tomorrow too. I love that youngsters still get taken by the lyrical melodies, harmonies and general "feelgood factor" of the fab 4's songs. "Brilliant" is the only comment I can ever think of for almost any Beatle song, and the above is no exception. They will always be brilliant. They shook the world.

    So beautiful. Songs like this really did change my world . Like so many youth , i felt so alone and fragile and confused back in the 70's. My mom was an angel, my father was a bit of a frightening monster, i was so shut down.
    We went to catholic church on sundays, kneeled down, stood up, sat , kneeled again , as i listened to weird moanings and rantings and mumblings from a Priest, it was nothing short of mental torture in some ways. Finally i told mom i was no longer going to that stupid place to drone like a lemming and watch men in capes go thru the motions of idiocy & place a round piece of 'bread' onto my tongue .
    Songs like this affected me then, the beauty , the creativity can really make a confused bored frustrated silly child feel better - that is the power of music and art i guess. I'm grown now and this song still makes me feel wonderful , this is still one of the most beautiful songs i have ever heard all my life
    Thanks Johnny , may you rest in peace. I heard your vOice today, and it warmed my cold tired heart .
    Today for a while at least, limitless undying love shines around me

    Back in the sixties being a seven year old and tuning to the wonderful rhythms of this wonderful group, I thought then I had to make a stand in this wild world with the wonderful word called ' Conscience ' and that you either could do something good and suffer or do something bad and enjoy the momentary victory. I decided on the former and have suffered a lot ! Now, I believe I took the right decision as my decision is being sung by the late George Harrison ( may he be part of the eternal truth). It is so difficult to move around these days without coming across something so bad that one wants to just pray that one does not become part of that!! I for one, haven't changed this attitude for the past fifty years !! I really pray that I do not do so !!!

    Whenever I see slideshows of the Beatles like this, it always saddens me. They always seemed happy and loved each other like brothers, even when their world was slowly going upsidedown. But with this song, it makes me feel even sadder, because it almost seemed as if they were singing that nothing would change the bond they had with each other. Well done, John. We all miss you dearly.

    Oddly enough The Beatles were the One Direction of their era. A boyband from across the pond whose top songs were the ones about about loving girls. You're upset now, but you shouldn't be. It's a winning formula for music.

    • @Beragon
      @Beragon 10 лет назад +127

      True. However, my understanding is that One Direction is a manufactured band with a global marketing strategy and investor financing for touring and publicity. In contrast, The Beatles emerged organically and conquered the world by sheer force of will. Sure, they created a model for global boy bands that came after them, but The Beatles were not manufactured like The Monkeys, or Menudo or One Direction. Also, does One Direction write their own songs and play their own instruments? I think they just sing.

    • @3allz
      @3allz 10 лет назад +48

      Reckl ess "A boyband from across the pond whose top songs were the ones about about loving girls" - Maybe in the first year of arriving in the USA they had mostly songs about girls as it was pushed upon them to do so (which they had already been doing in the UK) and they hadnt even tapped into the lads creative potential yet (drugs helped unlock that door) but here you are acting like Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt. Peppers, The White Album and Abbey Road were never made and didn't proceed to change the world with how revolutionary those albums were. Nearly all of the songs on those albums are about life, its meaning, experimentation, love, peace, fun/sillyness and couldn't be further away from 'i want to hold your hand girl'. If you didn't know this then evidently you don't know shit about The Beatles and have no right to go around trying to stir up shit with retarded comments like 'It's a winning formula for music.'
      As someone has already said, if you want to compare One Direction to anyone, it would be the Monkeys or a big pile of shit on a plate. Looks like you need to go rediscover music mate.

    On this, you will catch a fleeting glimpse of Stu Sutcliffe, an original Beatle, who died in Germany, 1960 or thereabouts. On can hear the influence of their time with the Maharishi in this number

    • @MarkHyde
      @MarkHyde 11 лет назад +1

      Stu Sutcliffe died of an aneurism in 1962 in Germany. In an art class of all places....well he collapsed there but died in the ambulance on the way to hospital. :)

      Mark Hyde Thank you for the correction, Mark. I truly forgot what year Stu died. Do you have any more info on the artist/guitarist? My older brother has all the Beatle lore with him at his home, among his many possessions. ;-)

    • @MarkHyde
      @MarkHyde 11 лет назад +1

      Not really, only what I could gather from the internet. I think this was at a time when neurology was in it's infancy medically...he returned from Germany (where he collapsed) and sort more medical attention back in the UK but apparently doctors could do nothing. His death in an ambulance
      In those days aneurysms were only found AFTER someone had died from them via autopsies.
      There are a few documentaries about his life from BBC I think.

    • @terrywestbrook-lienert2296
      @terrywestbrook-lienert2296 11 лет назад

      So tragic. I have always wondered what Stu would've thought of the direction the group took, as the band's ideas progressed from «Love Me Do» to «Magical Mystery Tour».

    The Beatles were Supernaturally Excellent. Or beyond just great. The Stones, Queen, and Zep were great. The Beatles were greatness at a level that truly can`t be explained. An example, remove either Paul or John`s contribution from the Beatles and they would still be the greatest band of all time.

    Imagine a very rainy day and a house with leaks. You cannot leave, because of the rain outside; you cannot relax, because of the dripping inside. You are very miserable and quickly going crazy, as the rain comes through the roof and ceiling to drip ... drip ... drip on your nerves and things! So is a woman that likes to argue, nag, question, and prod! Proverbs 27:15. John used the situation to write a song instead

      Thales Queiroz clearly you have no idea whats atheism is about, and clearly your agnostic theism brings more blurriness than Buddhism. I used to be atheist, atheism is about needy of evidence, and atheism isn`t about the hate, its called "retaliation" from all the hates of the majority.. majority say atheists are bad people, atheist say religious people(majority) killed more people and quite fact since there are bunch of evidences.

      Hardly the first sent into space. Across the Universe was transmitted into space in 2008. Voyager in 1977 had 27 songs included when it was launched into space. No Beatles songs were included.

      You're listening to pop hits yeah, maybe try listening to something else, i would call muse and Gorillaz just as artistic. Because we have shitty pop music you can dance to doesnt mean its bad either, its a unique style and a unique song! it shouldn't be judged on how it sounds but rather what it inspires in you, a calming mood or a dance mood? Or anything else music can inspire.

      John was not "like" anybody else. John lost his mother, never knew his father, and was raised by his aunt. Us "normal" people did not grow up like John. John and his group raised the bar, and changed popular music forever. John's legacy is cemented forever, in the genius music he created. Class dismissed.

    When I hear this song, I think of all the people I've ever loved and all of the strangers I never could. And there's this exquisite pain in possessing so much love with nobody to give it to. I imagine this beautiful universe inside my heart where the rivers flow with love and the air is fresh with flowers and life, but there are no inhabitants except myself to experience it with. So sad...so beautifully, beautifully, sad.
