- America’s first billionaire, oil baron John D. Rockefeller, appeared on Forbes’ inaugural rich list, compiled by B.C. Forbes himself in 1918. At the time, he was worth $1.2 billion, the equivalent of about $25 billion today. By the time of his death in 1937, Rockefeller had given away roughly $11 billion in current dollars, and left the rest to his heirs. More than 200 of them, who carry on the tradition of giving through the $5.3 billion (net assets) Rockefeller Foundation, share an estimated $10.3 billion fortune today.
That’s enough to rank them at no. 42 on Forbes’ first ever list of Decabillionaire Dynasties. At a time when markets and asset values are soaring, and the number of billionaires seems to multiply by the day, Forbes decided to up the ante and rank only those families worth $10 billion or more. Forty-five multigenerational families made the cut. Altogether they are worth a combined $1.3 trillion. By comparison, just 36 families were worth $10 billion or more in 2020, the last time Forbes counted up the fortunes of America’s richest families.
These extended families live all across the country in at least 23 states and are based out of hometowns ranging from Louisville, Kentucky to Wichita, Kansas to Racine, Wisconsin. But there are certain places where more of them can be found. New York City, home to the descendants of makeup mogul Estée Lauder (d. 2004) and publishing legend William Randolph Hearst (d. 1951) as well as the Rockefellers, has the most with seven. Chicago (four families) and Atlanta (three families) round out the top three.

Nice to be born into a rich family
If life gives you lemon, you make lemonades, so at this point instead of waiting for stocks to crash or recovery, focus on how to profit off the current market, Bloomberg, WSJ, BBC business(just to mention a few) have been recording cases of folks averaging 350k in 12weeks, so there's money being moved around if you know where you're looking.
Smart people who worked hard to build an empire ❤these people are the real winners. One day i will also become a billionaire 😊
What about kochs aren't they rich ???
They prefer to be low-key & private.
Great info
The real richest families are not on this list.
That is correct, I belong to one of the wealthiest families in America and I’m black but you will never know
forbes should put more effort in making good youtube videos. these videos look like it is made in 2010
Next up me and my family in Centabillionaire 🌞✅🌞
So this is the menu for eating the rich.
Colorful list
If you have a problem with family blood getting money passed down but dont care about divorcees on the billionaire list you have a screw loose
Old money
not fair for enslaved minorities
😮
why doesnt this anger people?
Not everyone is close minded and jealous like you. If people worked hard to build an empire why should they be hated? If you are mediocre, is your own problem.
Tax these greedy tax evasive thiefs for like 70% of their income and fix americas homelesness and poverty
Eat the rich
From their perspective, Eat the Poor and they do.
If you ain't rich, you ain't nothin'. That's the way mankind works, baby! Be rich, or be a nobody.
The list is only based on the assets they could track
😂😂 so wait now even billionaires are being pushed down?? 😂😂 we the middle class have no hope then
Are they white?
jevvs
Walmart stock is up 40% since Jan 2020. And up 70% in the last 5 years.
walmart love inflation
Wealth transfer to the top
Maybe stop shopping at Walmart? They get the money through voluntary transactions of customers...everytime I have to walk in Walmart I cant get out fast enough. The demographic of people in Walmart on avg is the lowest caliber of citizen
Disclosure- I just sold my walmart stock
Don’t shop at Walmart
It would be nice to know how many family members there are in each....as for example....if 3 families each has $30B....but one has 5 members, one has 15 members and the third has 30..are they better off then the Waltons family that has $270B but hundreds+ members.... or if they are public or privately owned
Good stuff!
What about the Roy familiy?
Bro are you slow.....the Roy's only exist in succesion
Nepotism👎🏻👎🏻
I would work for these billionaires in America so I can become rich too.
Purdue should be fined with another billion $ just for that hideous building
These elites in tandem with the corrupt government will take this country to it's knees like the fall of Rome, My sympathy goes to anyone approaching retirement, you may have reasonable concerns over your pension and if it'll stretch to cover the rising cost of living, bad regulatory policies, bad energy and insane fiscal policies.
I feel your pain mate, as a prospective retiree, I'd suggest you look into passive index fund investing and learn some more. For me I had my share of ups and downs when I started looking out for consistent passive income, so I hired an expert consultant for guidance, And following advice I poured 30k$ into value stocks and digital assets, I'm up to 200k$ so far, and I'm sure ready for whatever comes
Honestly this cannot be overemphasized, helping people mitigate unforseen
circumstances and mistakes .It's always good to have a financial plan
may they live in interesting times
Good info - but I could make this slideshow and voiceover in 30 mins in imovie ... c'mon Forbes
Aren't u quite late? As there are centibillionaire families now
And we still have a trillion debt smh 🤦
Yeah and so?

@@kegzferdinand7588 I almost forgot to say
"without being famous"
Getting to a billion has never been easier than it is in 2024. Successful people leave footprints. ❤

Investers r becoming rich, u don't need to be talented but ur employers should be super talented. Take the profit and keep investing and become super rich. Thats the story of all billionaires in the world.
Tax these greedy tax evasive thiefs for like 70% of their income and fix americas homelesness and poverty
We finally get to meet the rulers of the world.
I just want to marry into one of the families ngl… maybe there’s a gay single guy in one of them? But like I really mentally have been trying to get my head around if the rich manage the economy for the better good of everyone and the country or if they just manage the economy to like only profit themselves and they’re friends. Like I’m def fascinated how they managed to turn everything into so much of a profit using the media to manipulate the market, secretly buying up all the houses so they’re getting money from just the housing values increase but also by then taking that house and renting it to get even more money off the “asset”.. then doing everything in their power to stop affordable housing or new housing to be built to not decrease said value.
It’s very well planned and coordinated, even if it’s like potentially also like devastating the economy for everyone that has less then 100,000$ in assets. At the same time I like that Walmart exists and these big businesses do, because tbh I hate small businesses… I literally hate walking into a store where there’s like a small cramped environment and the employee wants to have a conversation with me, and everything’s over priced… I love how impersonal big business is, this isn’t anything other then business transaction to them
So idk I have a lot of respect for these people I just wish they’d view the entire country’s wellbeing rich and poor as something that needs to be invested in. And invested in even if they aren’t making as much money as they could be, but I do sometimes wonder if there’s layers to it I can’t see, national security risks and what not
