  • This cabinet was designed and made for my Gordon Russell Project at Rycotewood Furniture Centre, Oxford, UK.
The piece is primarily made from Walnut, both solid and veneer, with two bookmatched spalted Beech doors. Overall, it took 5 weeks to make.

Just finished up this series, and the walnut desk, great work, beautiful. Where I am, for the most part, wood is cheap enough that veneering isn't worth it except for in larger production shops. I'm thankful for that too, it seems very time consuming. The shots at the end with the drawers out are just stunning.

This cabinet is one of the best one i've ever seen but all these holes for the shelves are not too cool, anyway i really love this piece of furniture!

Well done. The wood is beautiful and what you’ve done pays homage to Krenov. I would have liked to see knife hinges instead of seeing the barrel hinges breaking up the lines. Love the curvy drawers with no knobs

Beautiful work again Matt, love your videos. Inspired me to complete my 2" (48mm) thick English Yew, Natural edge, gold glitter, (My Wife's contribution to the design), epoxy filled side table, just before the New Year. Sadly I work abroad in Aviation so can't spend anything like as much time as I'd like at home and in my shop. But my table (more by pure luck than skill), turned out great. Great tutorials on sharpening helped me restore my sadly departed father in law's No, 4 Footprint plane for "near as damn it", tear-out free planning of the Character Yew board after jointing the top and shelf boards, for which I offer my sincere thanks. I'm guessing ONE of your course mates is jealous of your work though? ;-)

You’re incredibly talented. What is this place that you built this piece at? Is it a school? Is it a public place where people pay to use the machines? There’s nothing like that where I live. Keep up the good work

So nice, thanks! Are you using mdf and veneer because it's more stable, or because it's cheaper? Would it be possible to build it in solid wood, or would it move too much? Cheers

Thank you John! I have an awkward corner in my bedroom where it may fit. The trouble is, furniture looks tiny in a large workshop, but when you bring it into a house it looks massive!

You could just have made some small handles for the drawers etc. All else is mastership with machines, wood and handtools. It is true; when we are young we don't always know when to stop while making something. And then sometimes it gets to much. Ach u know. It's oké.

Krenov inspired but not in the way is made. Techniques that can only be taught by those that have done very specific training.
