Such a great, great song, from a great band. "Panama Red" is on constant rotation in my car. I love everything from Sinatra to the Pretenders to Stevie Wonder to CSNY to Miles Davis to Jamiroquai to Todd Rundgren to Boston but the New Riders will always be near and dear to my heart as I grew up with their music. Long Live NRPS!
I'm just a lonesome l.a. cowboy, Hangin' out, hangin' on To your window ledge, callin' your name From midnight until dawn I been smokin' dope, snortin' coke, Tryin' to write a song Forgettin' everything I know 'Til the next line comes along Forgettin' everything I know 'Til the next line comes along There's so many pretty people in the city, I swear some of them are girls I meet'em down at barney's beanery With their platform heels and spit curls I buy'em drinks, we smoke our hopes Try to make it one more night But when I'm left all alone at last I feel like I'll die from fright Repeat Well, I know chris and rita, and marty mull Are meeting at the troubadour We'll get it on with the joy of cooking While the crowd crys out for more 'Round six o'clock this morning I'll be gettin' kind of slow When all the shows are over, honey, Tell me, where do you think I go? Repeat
TODAY A SAD DAY,,,Buddy Cage has sadly died. He battled a long illness the last few years and was in really bad shape. He had multiple health challenges and has spent months in hospice.
I can't see Richie Furay doing justice to this...Paul Cotton? This is a Peter Rowan song. NRPS did "Dead Flowers" better than the Stones. Live mid 70s recording? What you hear is what you get.
No, it was not. It was a separate band. At one time, Jerry, Phil & Mickey played in the band, but Marmaduke was undoubtedly the leader. He wrote all of the songs on the first album. Bass player Dave Torbert wrote songs on subsequent albums and sang lead on those songs. Dave Nelson is the one who was in the band from day one and the only one still alive (and playing music!).

Reminds me of a place called home
reminds me of the fun times in my college days in Tucson at UA
La jeunesse de mes 18 ans! Nous l 'écoutions en boucle!
Great song, by an underrated band.
New Riders of the Purple Sage has for years tried to keep a low profile, but their music is very good is what gave them away.
I think it was this song among their other that made me fall in love with the pedal steel guitar sound
I was 16 ,,in 1973
I can't believe I had never heard the live version before! Awesome stuff!
Outstanding
Genius!!!
These guys were great! This song is awesome!
I loved this song in the new wave days too, so fun!! We would slam dance for hours & then go to a friends house & dance & sing to this 1 more...

Such a good band. Whatever happened to them?
I Was Their With My GF Colleen
Great song. Singing not great. Poco could have really make this material shine.
Like any band, they had their off nights (vocally, rarely instrumentally) but some of their harmonies rivaled the Byrds.

This was mostly GRATEFUL DEAD AKA
