      What I always do is open the cargo scoop as soon as I enter Glide. That will work as a huge brake the moment you leave Glide, and enables you to easily and without problems reach the surface. Personally I prefer the scoop over the landing gear, because I want to fly slowly close to the surface looking for a good spot to put down my ship without it trying every time to auto land

    Frontier announced a few weeks ago that the galaxy is explored by 0.06% after 10 Years the game exists. So there is so much left. You can literaly point out a random system on the map and just go for it. You will always find amazing things. Just take your time and appreciate the way to your goal.
    I did two runs in the last 3 months. First was into the Horsehead Nebula and the Orion Nebula which brought me 700mio Credits and the second one to Soul Nebula which i finished two days ago brought me 800mio Credits. But its not about making credits which is a nice benefit by the way. It is about having fun and explore things and go where no man has gone before.
    I fell in love with a Type6 Transporter. I painted it in bright light orange and gave her the name "Jumpin' Jack Flash". She is such a cool flying Box. She is not totally overengeeniered but she has a decent jump range of 53+ly, clean thrusters with 335 / 525m/s and is able to carry a tier 5 fuel scoop. She is also fast enough to easily run away intercepting Thargoids, when i stumbled over one.

      You should consider swapping to dirty drives once you make it past grade 3. Grade 4 and 5 clean run hotter than dirty simply based on their power draw.
      If you're under grade 3 clean is fine, but if you ever plan to upgrade it, just start with dirty.

      @@MinistryOfMagic_DoM This is interesting. I never thought about this. You're right. It runs cooler and faster with dirty drives. Funny. Thank you for this advice! Meanwhile i installed an SCO Frame shift drive and made some more engeneering and got her at 58+ly jump range. I can max her out up to 60.10ly unladen.But this is a big effort which will take a big chunk of time. greetings!

    Bacterium on dark, rust coloured planets is a nightmare at first. Every smudge and shadow looks like it.
    The trick for me was to find the smoothest terrain possible to avoid the confusing shapes and colours. Land on the sunlit side of the planet too and put the star to your left or right, because flat textures are the one aspect that night vision doesn't help with. When you have a difficult bacterium to find, use the turret view as you cruise the plains in your SRV to sweep across the landscape. Your HUD will briefly flash to indicate something is there. Mostly though, once you initially spot the local colour of bacterium, it becomes much easier to find the next few similarly coloured smudges on the ground 😛

      It's worth it to bring an SRV alone for driving on Metal Rich/High Metal Content Bodies and collect materials from there as these aren't just used for Engineering your equipment but also to Synthesize Things like FSD Injections, Repair Materials for AFMU's and basically all Ammo Types from Standard to Premium for pretty much every weapon type.
      It's also worth noting that, if you keep travelling a distance of about 5'000 Light years away from your starting point you can unlock Engineers for your Ship's Thrusters.

    i recommend 2G planets.
    now your SRV wont unpredictably randomly accelate after flying off the surface, spin out, after becoming incontrollable fly into a rock, flip, bounce off a thing and fly for 200 meters... SRVs need a handling rework.
    and heres why you should use a SRV. stuff counts as diverse enough if it is 2km away from other scanned stuff. annoying and one way to eventually either deplete the SRV fuel or get the hull to 30% because of the horrible handling model.

      Some are a pain to find, but they do have very specific types of areas they grow on. Edges of craters, high up mountains, sides of hills, etc. I prefer to use a very small ship when using a FC, or you can use a SLF to zoom around and spot shit. Record the nav coordinates and then land as near as possible. Mountains are a pain. Flats I just fly to, get out and scan and repeat. No srv. Try to make 3rd sample be near another species to start. Set a time limit too. Unless you are super completion guy, I'm not spending too long searching the hills for some 3mil species. Not worth the time.

      @cmdrandreyuenari4150 I was under the impression that the color differences did not mean population density differences but instead indicated where different biome type borders exist. The plant could be in that general colored area, but they prefer a particular biome. Rocky, flat area, top of hills, side of hills, craters, crevices, etc. Knowing that helps speed the process up immensely.

    A note about First Footfall Bonus, is it's not exhausted to the person who actually gets it. If someone lands on a planet with 6 biologies, only scans 3 and leaves, someone else can get the First Footfall Bonus of the remaining 3 if they scan them, they just won't get their name on the planet. If you're just in it for a few extra credits, a lot of the time people don't scan bacterium (as shown in this video itself) so you might as well, some, like Informium, are worth nearly 50m with the first scan bonus.

    Bacterium is relatively easy. It depends on the difference between the species colour and the hue of the planet surface. Mostly it stands out like a sore thumb, especially the most lucrative bacterium Informem found on Nitrogen worlds.

      Osseus can be a long haul but I stay in the ship and cruise about looking for it, at least it (usually) stands out from it's surroundings.

    Sampling -- One tip - DON'T switch to a different plant type before you get all 3 samples of the current plant, if you do, you'll loose the current plant. so do all 3 samples, then switch to a different plant and do 3 of that.

    Some likes valleys where it's easy to land, some like mountain bases right next to good landing places, some like the tops of mountains where it's harder to land, and some like being half way down a steep rock face where you're only option is lots of jumping and luck to get to them after landing somewhere hopefully nearby.

      Exactly.
      Bacteria = flat terrain.
      Osseus = hilly terrain.
      Cactoids, tubuses = canyons/mesas.
      Fungoids, frutexa, aleoids = mountains.
      Tussock = flat and hilly terrain.
      Fonticulua = icy terrain only (so if a rocky-ice planet has Fonticulua, look for it on ice caps - it will not spawn on a dry rocky terrain), usually on flat ice.

    first footfall does not give you the bonus. First to turn in the sample (first to log) is what gives you the bonus. Having elite observatory with the bio insights plugin running will save you loads of time on crappy low paying planets. Gives you the predicted bio samples the planet may contain with the payouts. And also tracks your distances so you don't have to guess if you have moved far enough away. Many plants do not like to spawn until your basically next to them. Night vision makes them show up from much further away. Night vision is your best friend.

    I only do exobiology exploration. The only thing that annoys me is the need to find three samples for each plant and not being able to collect more than one type at a time. It wouldn't hurt them just to allow you to take samples as you find them until you get the three samples.

      I think unlimited would dumb it down too much. Maybe a suit upgrade per extra slot, even one would be a game changer.

    Sooo...you thought a month's experience and a fancy accent were all you needed to pontificate on Elite Dangerous...?

      First, great use of the word pontificate, respect.
      Second, I have 5 years experience of the game in general, it’s just I started this bit recently.
      Third, I did my research - some pretty experienced folks watch my stuff and none of them corrected anything I said (they offered more in-depth advice, but I asked them to).
      Fourth, you think my accent is fancy? Thanks so much! 🫡

      for a hard core ED player it can be fun...why not? flying around killing other players and bounty hunting or cargo routes are not only fun in ED

      @@Tamburello_1994 I like ED because of that "do what you want whenever you want" attitude. Sometimes I like to bounty sometimes minning or other stuff and it is all on you, so if you find yourself in that gameplay (chill and easy) it is great. Personally not into onfoot PVE I like more ship combat, cargo, and exploration, and thats make me happy. o7

    I wouldn't install Odyssey if they gave it away free.
