My dad had a 55 Chevy stepside pickup back in the 60s. It had a floor starter and 3 on the tree. I learned how to drive a stick in it. I wish I had it now.
Awesome work gents! As a Baby Boomer gear head it warms my heart that young folks like yourselves are interested in old cars and have acquired the mechanical skills to get them up and running. Gives me some hope for the future of our currently f*^ked-up country.
@@DailyDrivenDeathTraps I like rowdy! Me and my gear-head buddies from high school were kind of rowdy ourselves. In 1974 my two best friends and I all owned 1970 Mustang Mach 1’s. Each had a 4-speed mated to a 351 Cleveland. We all modified our cars with hot cams, headers, big Holley carbs, glass pack mufflers…you know that drill. The muscle car scene was in full force in SoCal during the early 70’s and after the movie American Graffiti came out in 1973 (the year we graduated HS) there was a huge resurgence of cruising. In ‘74 we were all under 21 and could not get into bars so cruising E Street in San Bernardino was the place to be. Drinking and driving wasn’t as big a deal back then (penalty-wise) so we did a lot of that when we could figure out how to buy beer. When things were slow on E Street we’d head over the Magnolia Ave in Riverside. Two or three times on our way there, along with our buddy Gerry who had a ‘69 Mach 1, we’d block all four lanes of the freeway by slowing down to about 35 mph. That way we would have enough room for a four way drag race. We were sure lucky the CHP didn’t catch us doing that sort of thing. We all had at least one “exhibition of speed” ticket from the San Bernardino Police Department. Like I said, I don’t mind rowdy at all!
@@sneville44 ahhh….the good old days! We cruised downtown Boise Idaho doing the same thing, then we hit (I moved) downtown central Ave in Phx Az. Good days, fun times, life was good!
I have two 235 6 bangers still in the crates bought new in 1957 from GM. Completed, ready to drop & drive. Some day I might find a use for them. Just like the day they were made.
I find it entertaining watching these young bucks trying to get this truck engine started. I grew up working on these things and find myself telling them what they're doing wrong. I could have had that thing running in no time flat.
In 1975 I learned to drive in a 1955 Chevy PU. It had the original bed on it but besides that it looked very much like this truck. Broken window and rusted out floorboards. Vacuum windshield wipers. 3 on the tree, used to get stuck in 1st gear had to move the shift linkage at the firewall. Gas tank leaked behind the seat. I went to senior prom in that truck ! Was a hot mess with sheets covering hole in the seat. **GOOD TIMES !**
😂😂😂 That must've been one interesting Prom date afterwards! I drove my uncle's 1989 Pontiac Sunbird GT turbo convertible to my last school dance (I didn't get to graduate because I was diagnosed with cancer when I was 16). I tried to grab a titty that night and my date wasn't about it...but she was definitely top-heavy...😂😂😂 She's still a good friend, but we both married someone else. I took my wife to her Prom when we were bf/gf, but we took my 1992 Acura Integra.
Wax is a old school trick for no seize. I actually just seen a Short on melting crayons on top of seized threads to break it loose. But my grandfather taught me about wax
I'll tell you one thing it makes an older man feel pretty damn good to see younger generation doing what you do. Pretty damn awesome guys keep up the good work 💪
Awesome job Boys 🤘🤘i really appreciate your hard work and dedication to saving these oL vehicles. It’s so good to see you young fellas working on these old trucks and cars. Keep up the fantastic work men 🤘🤘🤘🤘
It was charging before you even got it actually started when you were first cranking on it the amp gauge came up. You guys saying you were 20 blew my mind I just turned 40 Saturday and I'm old enough to be your dad which blows my mind to say because it seems like yesterday when I was 20 I bet your dad's are proud of you guys keep doing what you're doing.
Being a fella in my mid 60 I've drove a lot of those ole trucks. Can't beat them very reliable 🤪. You just don't want to be in a hurry to get where you're going 🤠. Thanks 👍 for sharing.🎉on.
Awesome save guys. One thing. I think this is actually a 1956. It looks like it has the split emblem on the fender which is '56 only, '55 was a one piece. But that does look like a replaced fender. However the interior is painted grey. 55's had white interiors. They were grey from '56-58 then '59 was a fawn color that would continue on the 60-66 generation. Thanks again for saving this one, I saved a '56 3600 pickup myself so I love to see other ones saved.
Definitely a 56, the vin will have the year in it and also a quick way to tell a 56 from 55 is the fender emblem is above the fender style line, hood emblem also "points" up on 56 where a 55 points down.
Subscribed last video with the crew cab dodge, back for this one. Love the content guys! Keeper Goin! Save them while you can, once they're gone, they're gone!
Just a tip for those who haven't driven 'Armstrong' steering vehicles (no power steering), the wheel turns a whole lot easier if you're moving even slightly while turning the wheel. Less load on power steering pumps that way, too. Good job guys!
Next time, take some brake, clean or carburetor cleaner and put that down into your fuel pump. Brake cleaner will cause the diaphragm to expand. If it’s still good, it’ll make it soften up better than putting fuel down in there.
I stumbled on to this video and just loved seeing you two guys jumping all over a 55 Chevy Oh Yeah. In Iowa to boot. I grew up in Illinois and think you guys a real hoot. Thanks for sharing. Dennis

Awesome truck!! I think technically the Apache series didn't start until 58?? I think. Either way, that truck has the style. Love the video guys great work!
i enjoyed your hands on approach and your humor. I have a soft spot for '50s pickups. Please don't dump gas on the ground. it kills a lot more than grass. if you dump it on a dirt driveway it still ends up in the ground water. Please dispose of properly. thank you.
Duracell and Interstate batteries have always done me good. I dont buy any other battery. As for parts I never have a issue with oem toyota parts lol but ac delco yes I do
Good for you you figured it out you were out of timing. I can tell you’re out of timing after your first turnover but I do have over 35 years of turning wrenches to.
I used to pick up old cars and motorcycles in the 80s /90s for under £100 sometimes free it was an adventure getting them back home sometimes and a real mission getting them running but i loved it great channel and content fellas and a big hiya from the uk 🤘
It pays to get a good battery. However it costs to get a good battery. If you are gonna get the cheap batts, buy about 3. You can always return the ones you do not use. Or you have spares for the next rig you bring back to life.
Most parts for this are available on line. Just need the time for delivery. A beter jump pack would help and jumper cables. While these are fun to watch..I take a trailer, winch them on and do all this at home.
Like the video. Cool you guys got it up and going. I would recommend an oil change after you warmed it up a bit cuz who knows how old that oil is and if there is sludge in it. Id also recommend a fuel filter before the carburetor. Cool to see you guys drive it 150 miles👍
And yes I would most definitely love to have that truck. But unfortunately I don't make enough money at present and I am currently living in my car. But hopefully a new job is just around the corner and I'll be able to get back into doing what you just did. I prefer old motor cycles but i can fix anything
Apache would be the 3100 short bed and 3200 long bed step side series. That might be the Titan/ Spartan series. They all fell under GMs “Blue Chip” models. I “think” those ran from 55-61???
That was a good idea to bring sleeping bags and a tent instead of getting a hotel room. I never sleep well in a hotel room anyway because I can't stop worrying about the cost and whether the bedding was changed after the last person who slept in the bed or if there are bedbugs.
Some people cant image spending money on a roof top tent but alex overlands and just got one, we'll probably be sleeping ontop of the truck if we ever have to do that again haha. Nice thing is he already built the truck to have a bed in the topper so now its like a bunk bed truck.
What ya want to see next?
I want to see the box on that truck for sure.
@@josephhead2748 🙌🏻 Will do!
Yes that new bed would look sweet. Are you going to paint it?
Uhh get a utility box used for it and makkeit. Your service truck
Add electronic ignition pertronix and a disc brake swap
