A suggestion for a modification (might even eliminate that ricochet). Install the metal backers on a small hinge so it flips off the wood form. You'll still get the satisfying "ting" but BB or pellet will be less likely to seek revenge.

Might want to hang from the top mount on the back side. Having them hard mounted top and bottom can cause pellets to bounce off.

For removing nails from pallet wood. It was the only way to get nails out of the 3x6 pallet boards of oak and maple I got several years ago.
