WARNEMÜNDE: Shocking sexual assaults by Afghans! Why the perpetrator is at large
In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, a 20-year-old Afghan is said to have sexually harassed three girls aged 10, 13 and 14 on the beach in Warnemünde. The girls turned to lifeguards, who alerted the police. The officers were able to quickly catch the suspected perpetrator and are now investigating on suspicion of sexual harassment. After the police measures were completed, however, the 20-year-old was initially released, which has caused irritation and concern among some.
Theresa Müller reports from Warnemünde and describes the reactions on the ground. Despite the incidents, most people still feel safe. The police are keeping a low profile and many people do not even know what happened. However, there is a lack of understanding as to why the suspected perpetrator was released. According to the police, there were not enough grounds for pre-trial detention. This leads to a tension between people's sense of justice and that of the justice system.
A retired couple who were on the beach with their granddaughter reported a similar situation that they had observed on Sunday. A group of underage boys with a migrant background approached several girls and verbally harassed them. The retired man tried to intervene and was insulted by the boys. It is possible that these are the same perpetrators. This couple feels uncomfortable and does not want to leave their granddaughter alone on the beach.
The people of Warnemünde do not feel unsafe, but the release of the suspect is met with incomprehension.
