I had seen this tour, Peter Gabriel Growing Up Live. He put on a terrific show. During the concert, he had all of the Roadies come on stage. He said without them none of this would be possible, and had everyone give them a standing ovation. He is a total genuinely a very cool person. Class act all the.
The famous vids are with Paula Cole, which I was lucky enough to experience, but I saw one tour where his daughter sang those parts. Great father/daughter dance. Brought tears to my eyes.
Great choice, one of Peter Gabriel's masterpieces. Tony Levin, one of the best bass players out there, wrote the Pink Floyd bass line to "Sorrow" 👍 " I come to you, defences down, with the trust of a child"
The purpose of the round stage is that everyone can see everything from all sides and the reason for this is that it rotates slowly. If you look closely you can see it too. I think it's a brilliant idea. Best wishes @all from germany
Great reaction again to a classic song from the "So" album that was released 1986. Some say "Red rain" could be a reference to the Chernobyl accident that happened the same year. Peter himself explained in the Mojo magazine in 2013: "'Red Rain' was written after a dream I'd had about the sea being parted by two walls. There were these glass-like figures that would screw themselves into each wall, fill up with red blood and then be lowered across the sand, as it were to the next wall, where they'd unload the blood on the other side. I used to have these extremely vivid dreams that scared the hell out of me." I´d recommend to have a listen to "Downside up" that he sings with his daughter Melanie in the same concert where the "circle" concept of the stage is taken upside down.
You are the nicest couple from so many other reaction videos of couples that I've seen. Always have a sensitive and smart coments with a smile and good vibes !
I always took the meaning of this song to be about the trials one goes through in their life. GREAT TUNE! GREAT REACTION! I DO love his voice in this one. The studio version is SO, SO GOOD!!! (But, then, there's not much Peter Gabriel that I think is BAD!!) HUGS!! ❤❤❤❤❤
Great to see your reaction to Peter Gabriel!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND his live version of "Downside Up" from this Growing Up tour, and "Don't Give Up" from his 1993 Secret World tour!!!
the round stage is iconic, first person to use a circular stage is George Benson, it allows a more intimate feel so that more people can see them up closer and get a good view, and George is a master musician; as is Peter Gabriel, they are both Live!
for more peter darkness, signal to noise, growing up,big time,we do what we're told and for an epic masterpiece "suppers ready" when he was with genesis,a 22 minute long jawdropper
A good pop song to take a deep breath and collect yourself, both artists and audiences. From the point of view of the musicians and the stage , the Secret Live Tour 1994 was at the highest level (a Performance treasure), including this song back then. Later, Peter understandably had to "slim down" a bit, which was clearly seen in this video. You can also find amateur films from this year's European concerts.
Great reaction again! You should listen to his song Here Comes the Flood, especially the oldest versions where it's just him and a piano. He's been my favorite artist for almost 45 years, and I've always thought of his music as the soundtrack of my life !
H Peter did 2 tours with the round stage the first tour The Secret World tour the stage was round but static, but with tour (Growing Up Live) the stage also rotates and there are more visial effects too Peter sings suspended upside down along with his daughter, Peter also sings from within a giant Zorb ball, and Peter rides small silver bike around the stage at one point. There are 4 songs also from the Growing Up live tour you should check out, they are, Solsbury Hill, Growing Up, Downside Up, and Sky Blue.
The things on the bass player, Tony Levin's hands are called funk fingers, they help to produce a sort of percussion bass sound and they were invented by Tony Levin
Actually its drummer sticks cut half/ tierce with adhésive over his fingers. Remembered prefeclty in the 90’ his interview about this. Pretty cool indeed tho😂
@girs666 indeed but still invented by Tony in conjunction with his drummer at tbe time, he even polished up the design and sold them for about a year or so, around 1998/9 mainly to other bass players he knew, I understand Sting has a set, The commercial version of Funk Fingers had Velcro fingertip holders, and the tips were dipped in "rubberizing tool grip" for an optimal playing surface. One hus initial production run had sold out he decided not to make anymore, so I guess they are probably worth some money by now lol.
Depends upon the venue, but Gabriel does seem to like circular stages (maybe a philosophical statement?). I read where he realized his best songs start with a great drum groove as a base. Not surprising since he played drums in his first bands. It may also be why he and Phil Collins were such good friends. (best men at each others weddings). Looking forward to his concert this Oct. His music does grow on you as it goes on. I too think 'red rain' is a metaphor.
Background of this song: It is based on a nightmare Peter Gabriel had of red rain falling down. There are undertones of nuclear holocaust in this song. Peter Gabriel is beyond genius. He wrote, composed, performed this song.
Andre mentioned that all were smiling - I agree. But that is the exact opposite mood you feel when either just listening to the song or watching the original video. This is not a happy song. The song symbolizes the pain and trials one goes through in life and this version does not capture that.

peter gabriel! such a great guy! and his music is off the charts!
Peter Gabriel is a genius! On this tour, his backing vocalist (which you can also see in this video) was his daughter Melanie...

Peters Music go right in your heart and stay there

Love love love Peter Gabriel! The best versions are the same concert you saw In Your Eyes the Secret World concert but they are all wonderful.
Good music great live band
One of the reasons I love funk so much.
Melanie, his daughter as background singer❤

@@simply_psi absolutely ! Its was invented by Tony and you are are totally right, no offense 😊 and Yeah certaintely worth a lot now Aha
The female singer is Peter's daughter.

Check Downside up from this same concert. Heck, they're all good. Love your reactions ❤

Very different production from the secret world tour .
