I had an online friend. She was r*ped so badly that she has horrendous, massive panic attacks if she even looks at her n*ked body. This was at LEAST 3 YEARS after it happened. She became homeless and was living in her car. She refused to leave the city she lived in because she had all her doctors and counselors there. She knew she couldn't go through the trauma of even having to explain what happened to her to one more NEW doctor. I had offered her to come live with me. Her trauma was EXTREME. To this day, I have NO idea what happened, AND I would NEVER ask her the details. Counseling sometimes, even for years, is not enough to forget, to forgive, and figure out how to live again. I hate abusers and bullies, whether it's psychological, verbal, emotional, and/or physical.

I grew up in a similar position as your friend and have similar symptoms. Had an ableist psychiatrist and they thankfully switched me to a new one. Ended up not keeping up with appointments due to not wanting to relive the pain. How am I to receive help? I’m in an impossible situation since my family was also abusive and neglectful, I needed to rely on my bf. How can my bf show me more kindness and care than my parents? How? When there were such a big part of my trauma. I’ve been feeling lately that it’s possible that nothing will be enough to make me feel like staying alive was worth it.
Once I become a mom(my dream) I’ll have so many triggers and memories pop up. I’ll always be scared to hurt my child. I’ll be able to control my actions and be a great parent, but I won’t feel like it. I’ll always feel like something about me is rotten. I’ll always feel like I haunt my loved ones and burden them-which kills me because all I want is to love and show appreciation for those who love me like my parents didn’t. I never want to disappoint them.
I feel trapped like I can’t pass in peace. I can’t even choose to pass if I wanted to. What kind of a life is this? I’m always feeling chaotic, paranoid, and unsafe. It’s debilitating. It’s traumatizing to have to explain to employers, doctors, etc and be invalidated because they can’t believe that such abuse exists. How? How can I wake up every morning to this truth for the rest of my life?

For everyone pushing for adoption, please realize that pregnancy/labor/delivery may further exacerbate the trauma of being raped. Also, because this is America, the rape victim shoulders the huge financial burden of medical bills should she choose to carry and birth the baby. Additionally, lots of women end up with permanent injuries from pregnancy and childbirth. Not fair for a rape victim to be pressured into enduring. Rape shouldn’t be the gift that keeps on giving. (And I say all this as an adoptive parent)

    • @Biscuitbaker
      @Biscuitbaker 2 месяца назад +55

@TRB277 Well there is a way not to, a person can file for full custody dye to rape even if the rapist is not convicted- all the person would need is evidence that it was a sexual assault that caused the pregnancy. Even if the courts don't charge them, if you have evidence you can file for full custody. It varies by state but the only real state not seen to do it is North Carolina. And the rapist may still be ordered to pay child support, and the child could inherit the rapists estate. Also if can vary on the relationship with the offender, such as being a stranger, a spouse, etc. There is also some programs that can help people in that situation to get the offender out of their lives. Also there is restraining orders and protection orders they could also do.

How do children born from rape feel about this?
On Grey's Anatomy, Jo Wilson was born from rape. Her birth mother was raped, she had the baby, and then left her at a fire station. Her mother didnt want her because she was a constant reminder of the trauma she'd experienced. She was bounced around foster homes her whole life. When Jo found out all of this, it broke her. She had to be put in a mental institution. I imagine most people would feel broken knowing they exist because their father sexually assaulted their mother. I'm not saying all babies conceived by rape should be aborted, but a woman should not be forced to keep a child she did not plan for. It wasn't her choice to be raped.

This is an extremely tricky situation. No one should push ANY opinion on her, from either side. It's hard enough on its own. The girl will mature pretty quickly through all of this. Respecting her voice and her decision would be affirming of her dignity.

Yes. Voluntary confrontation of trauma has been shown to be very healing. Many women who did keep the baby said it helped heal them. But, it has to be voluntary.
Abortion is murder of an innocent. It's descending to the level of the rapist. There are many other options available, especially with modern medical tech. Carrying to term is the right thing to do. But it has to be voluntary. Otherwise, it's a traumatic violation.

You don’t get to use the trauma of rape survivors to push abortions. First of all, less than 1% of abortions happen due to rape. 2nd, there is usually wayyyyyy too much trauma done to the uterus for the egg to implant to secure the life. 3rd, all you people talk about is the idea of having a choice whether to carry the baby or not, you NEVER talk about the effects of abortion on the woman, the EXTRA trauma on her mind and body whether it’s from the pill that forces your body into LABOR or having an abortionist rip the baby limb from limb when still inside the woman. You never talk about how an emergency delivery is actually SAFER for mom than ANY form of abortion. You never talk about how many women kill themselves because they realize too late that that baby was alive and their child and they can’t live with that pain. No NOOOOOOOOO you people are the ones who are disgusting only giving a 1/3 of the truth and making it seem like abortion is empowering, COMPLETELY IGNORING the millions of stories of women who killed themselves over the trauma of the abortion or were FORCED into abortion (telling even the receptionist that they didn’t want it and the receptionist making note of it in their file but doing NOTHING for her. From a survivor’s story I heard) when they didn’t want it. I’m angry, obviously. Please for the love of all that is good and holy, educate yourself before you give only the info that planned parenthood wants you to know. Btw even abortionists have been asked and they confirmed that they do know that that baby can feel pain and is alive when they rip them limb from limb, do they care? All this, body horror too, btw, while carrying a part of that man inside them. It's like being SA'd, continuously for nine f*cking months!

A fetus wouldnt know it was dying its not cognisent of what death is, its why we have to explain death to children cos they dont just pop out with the knowledge.
A girl of that age if shes aware of what child birth is she'll be terrifided of the pain and stress her body is going to go through, if not the shock of each new stage of pregnancy will tear them apart mentally and at the end possibly physically. Now how is that fair one has awareness ( the child your suggesting should be forced to be a mother before she is mentally ready or healed) the other limited if any at all the undborn fetus. You notice its called a fetus not a baby btw, because lets be fair a fetus dosnt devlope detectable brain waves till 7 months gestation and the 1st signs of a spark of electrical currents that power our thoughst 6 weeks so if people didnt hold up the process with pointless moralistic projections that lead imbiciles to beleve things like a cheata that saves a monkey from another predator isnt going to eat it its self once it gets hungry or that a fetus has a fear of a consept most dont figure out before they're 5, a woman or poor raped young girl could end both their potential suffering before even the spark of though occures. Also if god cares so much then given his omnipitance youd think hed find a way to give this child a second chance at life or a safe comfortable place in heaven. I mean whats the point of that level of power if you cant spare some to take care of those he cares so much for that his disiples would force a child through tourture to bring it in to the world.

Don't get me wrong I'm not saying to keep it, I'm just pointing out that for poor women going through this, it must be a complete emotional rollercoaster in the worst way. I was forced myself twice as a child, but "luckily" for me as a boy I can't get pregnant, so after the incidents I just had to heal, but big love to my fellow sisters falling victim to this disgusting crime. This is a notice to everyone who was assaulted like me:
It doesn’t have to hurt, it doesn’t have to hurt at all for it to be rape
You don’t have to be physically threatened to be assaulted
You can be so anxious about saying no to them that you don’t say anything at all and it is still no
Being pressured to say yes is still assault
If they touch you before you say yes it is still assault
If they don’t give you a way out, meaning if they break you down so much you can’t say no or set the boundary and are able to expect them to listen, it’s assault
If they emotionally manipulate you into submitting to them, it is assault
If they put their hands on you physically without your consent, it is assault no matter how they try to spin it
You don’t have to be beaten or drugged to be assaulted. You can be manipulated and mistreated to the point where saying no will not get you anywhere no matter how many times you tell them. And to those who might tell me “well you can just fight you way out” no. People who have been assaulted the way I have went through severe psychological abuse. Saying no and fighting back isn’t going to work, we feel so much crushing guilt even thinking about it.
It doesn’t have to cause you pain, it doesn’t have to be brutal and or physically harmful, I understand. This is how rape is most often depicted but abusers will tear you down emotionally and take what they think is there’s, and that’s where the physical abuse starts. The emotional abuse is still abuse and it’s still rape. I hear you, I promise…

We have girls that were taken and kept in hidden basements that had babies by their captor and they loved their babies and kept them when they were eventually rescued and could tell their stories. Another aspect no one really talks about with a baby born of rape is you are now tethered to your rapist for the rest of your life through the child. Yes a rape even without a child makes that person a part of your life forever but having their child is a very physical tether. If for some reason you can't get a conviction the rapist can turn around and demand rights to that baby as it's father. Hell even if you do get a conviction they can still try it just to hurt you further. It has happened and I couldn't imagine being raped and then have to duke it out in family court to keep your child from having to spend alone time with a sex criminal.

I was a victim at 19 (I’m 51 now). I remember having to talk to my mother about what happened some days later because I was concerned about consequences, this being one of them. I had a dead end job with no insurance (back then you were off your parents insurance at 18 unless you were a full time college student) and no idea how I would pay for anything. When she asked me what I’d want to do should I be pregnant, without hesitation I said, “Get rid of it…” in an angry tone. She asked if I considered adoption and I said I did but I couldn’t spend all those months knowing I was carrying a baby that came from such an act. I’m bipolar, that would have been extremely detrimental to my mental state. I also expressed my concerns that the baby could turn out to be like the person that did it to me and the world didn’t need more people like that in it. My mom realized I had thought this through logically and said we’d figure out how to get the money somehow. Thankfully, I wasn’t pregnant and never had to make that choice. But had it come to that? That would have been the choice I would have made. Would I have regretted it, even now that I have two adult children, even after losing my ovaries before I could have more children like I wanted which still hurts me to this day? No, I know I would never have regretted my choice. Not only would it have been detrimental to my mental state while pregnant, the baby could have turned out like that person (obviously not a good person if they’re raping people) and if they found out how they came to be… that could mess them up. It would have been bad all around and I didn’t want that. Babies are supposed to be born out of love for one another, not just to keep the species going. That’s not how it is anymore and hasn’t been for tens of thousands of years. I’m an atheist, but I can tell you that even if I did believe, I wouldn’t think God had anything to do with making that baby. That’s the two involved in the act and biology… And do you REALLY think God wants you to be raped?! Well then he’s not this great guy you all make him out to be, let me tell you… Religion and the government should have no say in what a woman chooses to do. It’s her body, her choice. I don’t approve of women using it as birth control, but in the cases of rape, incest, major birth defects, life and death scenarios, I think it’s the mother’s choice and no one should tell her no.

Years ago before just after actually now that I think about it, abortion became legal a certain evangelical Christian preacher, famous teacher by the way television, famous had a daughter who had been raped and found herself pregnant. Her father would not allow her to have an abortion. she committed suicide by jumping off a building. I am happy to say that I belong to a religion that has permitted abortion for over 3000 years, especially in the case of rape as well as one of the places that when women couldn’t get an abortion in America, they would come to Israel to get one because here it was legal That in Europe I mention it because when I was a kid growing up military brat, the girls used talk about a European vacation that goes so-and-so went for a European vacation until one of the girls in gym class. We were in the bathroom in the changing room. I said what the hell is a European vacation and she told me she went to Europe to have an abortion… and yes, men have been getting away with rape, and there are some women who’ve been getting away with rape as well for millennials, and why because religion and other factions, especially Christianity have basically believed that women have no rights to their body and that rape is not rape if you’re a guy, of course but that’s wrong. Rape is about dominance. It’s about taking away a person’s right to self basically it’s the equivalent of beating the crap out of the person or enslaving a person, and the idea is to crush them in the one way that they will never be able to forget or get over… and if anybody doesn’t understand that, then they’re very thick indeed it’s people like these that make me think the world would be better off if humans were not in it. The worst thing about this is that when the whole war in
In Yugoslavia was happening and I say Yugoslavia former Yugoslavia was happening I can still remember hearing. I think it was either 16 minutes or what not a girl she could’ve been more than 15 they let her go from there captivity you know they locked her in a room, where they chronically raped her they took turns Believe they were Serb at the time because she wasn’t Serb she was in one of those Catholic hospitals that would not allow her to have an abortion and all she could think about was committing suicide. They said they were going to keep her there until she had the baby and all I could think of was she was kept in captivity for one group of people who abused her for another group to keep her in captivity and not give her what she requested because it was against their fundamental religious beliefs. Nobody cared about what she wanted nobody care how she felt and all I could think of if this is the world we live in then this world does not deserve to exist. This say that I edited I cannot edit. I do not have the use of my digits mainly fingers I use voice to text which is the only tool that I have to write what I feel down. I thought I needed to add this year because above it says 16 instead of 60 and I can’t correct that as in 60 minutes…

The 9 months being reminded every second that something is growing inside them because they were abused and traumatised? And then there's the birth. Already stressful enough, and that's assuming there's no complications, but add to all of that the fact that what's coming out of you was something you likely never wanted to begin with, and _certainly_ not with the person who did it to you? I can't even imagine what that must do to a person. Then of course there's the fact adoption isn't instantaneous like TV/film would have you believe....
