Congratulations guys with your new boat, fair winds and following sea. We hope to complete on the purchase of our boat in the next couple of weeks. Looking forward to following you on your journey live the dream
Hay guys. Heck of a time of year to buy a boat. This has been a rather odd and long winter here in the PNW. I have been watching sailing channels for a few years and there are so few that have done any time on this coast. Been a resident of the grater Seattle area for most of my life and have recently started dreaming of getting a boat of my own to explore the Salish Sea or maybe more. It's nice to see another channel that's going to be highlighting the beauty of the area. Looking forward to following your adventures where ever they take you.
Thanks Jesse, we are so excited to explore the are and share with everyone. We’ve got lofty plans to circumnavigate Van Isle this year and find something so few people get to see. Good luck getting into a boat yourself. It’s so worth it if you can pul it off. Cheers.
Great to see yous starting up your sailing journey , maybe sometime in the future you will visit Ireland and enjoy the craic in one of the local pubs . Safe journeys my friends
Stoked for you guys! Looking forward to more content, hopefully some surfing around BC / Vancouver Island. We're San Diegan's living near Seattle, plotting a similar future. See ya out there. Also, love that you named your boat after Ulu's!
Thanks bro. We are going around vancouver island this summer. so excited to get in a good amount of surfing in some remote spots. Hopefully get some decent summer swells.
Awe you guys are the best. You were probably our biggest inspiration. Anyone reading this and haven't watched @breakingwavessailing needs to go do that right now!
I believe that in 2019 your boat spent the night across the dock from us at Bridgeman's Marina in Port Renfrew. That might have been part of those 50 hours. We just sold our boat in Sidney and moved back to the east coast, so I'm looking forward to following your adventures. You'll love the island's west coast, especially Ucluelet. PS: You'll get 100 prawns every tide cycle if you drop your trap at: N48° 55.103' W125° 14.896'
Oh wow, we never got any history from the owner, he wasn't involved in the sale so had no idea really where she travelled. Thanks for the coordinates, cannot wait to get our prawning on!
Hint. Keep a real close eye on your keel bolts as they tend to work lose. Also, next time you haul out, use the Copper coat process. Yes, spendy up front, yet you will not have to do it again for at least 5-10 years. Just dive the boat and keep the green off. 😊😊
We are a little behind on editing but have done a haul out and bottom paint job. I used Pettit Odyssey Triton which am hoping to get 3-4 years. I watched @wesail recently do an episode on coppercoat and while a lot of work and expense, looks like a good option, especially while remote and less access to haul outs.
Thanks. You just got to go do it, our first one that got us hooked. see if you can find a local Facebook group about boating, lots of times I see around here people offering to take new comers out on their boats.
Welcome to the cruising world!! You mentioned Capt Kevin and said he was from CCG. Is that Kevin Monaghan? Would love to know. Thanks and enjoy your new boat!
I went and looked at my correspondence with him and don't know that I ever got a last name. that was him in the video though in the shorts on the dock when I was talking about it. 2:16 mark
Congrats on the new addition! Looking forward to following your adventures. We spend as much time as possible in our boat in the San Juan's and Gulf islands, LOVE IT! Question- love the ink, do you have a particular artist you see?
Hey Justin, thanks for commenting. I have had ink from instagram.com/evilkolors/ and instagram.com/jamesacrow/ who also just finished up a full back piece on Adelle. You won't see that until it warms up though. What's your boat name, maybe we will cross paths.

I (chris) took Basic Cruising Standard and Coastal Navigation from Coopers boating in Vancouver. I also took a VHF radio course and am currently working my way through NauticEd online sailing school. I find it really good and not that expensive. While the coursework is online, they are partnered with sailing schools around the world that you can connect with to take the practical on water exam.
Sailing is a disease...which I've had all my life! Having spent most of my early days building and sailing racing dinghies, a few years ago with two others I sailed an unloved 50ft Oyster back to the UK from Antigua........which was a whole new ball game! I wish you well on this new adventure, and look forward to watching your exploits.
Its so tough to find a live aboard slip in Vancouver, very few let you anymore. Working on our exit strategy to head south and will be full time cruisers.
Great first episode! I sailed the Vancouver area for a few years on a 34' sailboat. Just moved to Ontario and miss the sailing there. How did you manage to get moorage in Vancouver? I was only ever able to find temporary moorage. Looking forward to the next episode
We lucked out and our broker was able to pull some strings. Dave from Grand Yachts was invaluable. Point Roberts is about the only place close to Vancouver without a wait list that I know of.
Wow!!! Loved your first episode. I am following you guys now. I am about a year out from doing the same thing. I am from Mississippi. Just curious how much y’all paid for your boat? I have been looking at similar boats in my area.
Hi Dane, thanks for following. Boat prices may be a little higher up this way as inventory for similar age and size is very low. We paid $217k USD Prob on the high side but was literally brand new. 50 hours on the engine and still had packaging in the stove and microwave and mattresses still had the plastic wrap on. It also came with 2 brand new North Sails Gennakers that had never been used.
Add a couple of gallons of kerosene to your fuel tanks and change the fuel filters every couple of days when you run the engine.. and buy all new hose and belts , you need to get two everyone of the hose and belts anyway or maybe three belts with a spare alternator.. nice looking boat. .
Thanks, building up the spare parts box. lost an impeller already and swapped out the belt. With only 50 hours on the engine when we got it, most things are in really good shape but learning quick anything can fail at any time.
We are in Canada and took a course from Sail Canada called Basic Cruising Standard from a local school in Vancouver called Coopers Boating. It is comparable to the American ASA 101-103 I believe. It was a 5 day trip with 3 other students and an instructor. We were on a 37' Dufor from the school. It was a very cool experience, living on board, going to different anchorages and following along with the course book. At the end of the 5 days we had a practical assessment and a written test to get certified. I think the cost was around $1500cdn and included all costs as well as food.
Good video but change the title. We know you bought a boat so the title has no relevance. Anyways welcome to the Jeanneau family! That is a badass sailboat!
Yes... just recently started watching them. Some interesting stuff with the current episodes, you don't see too many channels spend the time where they are in the Middle East. We've been chatting about whether or not we will want to head that way.
Ah, yes I see what you are eluding to. If this were to be a news article, and if I happened to be a journalist, this would be a very inappropriate "headline". Fortunately, this is not news, there was no "headline", and I am not a journalist. When uploading, RUclips asks for a "Title", not a "headline", and gives the following tip "A catchy title can help you hook viewers. When you create video titles, it’s a good idea to include keywords your audience is likely to use when looking for videos like yours." A title is the name of our movie and can be whatever the hell we want it to be. I think it is a great title for our first movie. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to watch the show and leave a comment, I am sorry it made you sad.
oh shit a new sailing channel... fuck i cant wait till i join this community... also bro you sound like you was a pirate captain in a previous life. your two videos away from me grabbing a sword and coming aboard real talk lol might wanna let your wife talk your WAY too motivating!!! i cant wat see more of you guys!!!!
Awe thanks - too funny. We both look forward to quitting our full time jobs and spending more time on the water. Until then, we’ll do our best to describe our journey honestly and with as much informational content as possible. Hope you’re able to join us on the journey and let us know how we make it more fun for everyone. Our goal for now is to keep it simple and stay afloat. We are super thankful to the many folks on RUclips who have taught us valuable lessons thru their experiences - and we hope to contribute to the community as best we can 🍻
Thanks for asking. We’d like to start out with one video per month, since we both work full time. We’ve got lots of content and hope to get more episodes out asap.
Hey @Karloss, new episode it up. Please be patient, trying to get an episode out every 3 weeks but such a big learning curve with creating them, learning to sail and working g full time. Hopefully will get a rhythm down and get them out sooner. Would love to have you as a subscriber.
This could be hilarious: best way to fix a problems is to call a dealer, second option is to keep your fingers crossed be sure not to use your brain or imagination: my kind of channel. Well made video though . Seriously! Not the kind of boat a newbie should buy, it is all bling no substance .
Lol, thanks for watching and the comments. Probably not the typical first boat for newbs but it has been amazing. Keep watching the channel, we are currently sailing around Vancouver Island and finding out if it's all bling or has some substance ;)
Nice! -- QUESTION -- Why doe your voice sound so old (It reminds me of an old uncle that had cancer and smoked a lot) even though you don't look super old. What happened? Hopefully you don't mind revealing this...
I know, I sound like a muppet or something lol. I did get it checked out by a throat specialist years ago and have scarring on my vocal cords. I had a bike accident years ago that crushed my chest and the flap on my esophagus doesnt work very well. I get bad acid reflux sometimes that creeps up and causes it apparently.
Bravo!!! Take the leap and get on board

lol, well I think it summed up the moment that changed our life. Maybe more of a rhetorical question I guess. :)
You had a captain. You were the captain.
hmm, I like the sound of that. CC
Are you going to paint it blue?
the boat? probably not but I have seen some very nice steel blue wraps that looks 🔥
Have you watched all the @SailingZatara episodes yet? They've been to some amazing places!
www.youtube.com/@SailingZatara
Yes... just recently started watching them. Some interesting stuff with the current episodes, you don't see too many channels spend the time where they are in the Middle East. We've been chatting about whether or not we will want to head that way.
Next step is stainless arch for solar panels and dingy davits.
for sure the solar arch, but still trying to decide what kind of davits we want. Custom fab or bolt ons?
Betteridge's Law of Headlines says no. Very sad.
Learn where all the zincs are...bow thruster, prop, and most importantly, in the engine cooling system
Thanks Steve, hauling out soon and will get those zincs changed and our first attempt at bottom painting.
oh shit a new sailing channel... fuck i cant wait till i join this community... also bro you sound like you was a pirate captain in a previous life. your two videos away from me grabbing a sword and coming aboard real talk lol might wanna let your wife talk your WAY too motivating!!! i cant wat see more of you guys!!!!
We are super thankful to the many folks on RUclips who have taught us valuable lessons thru their experiences - and we hope to contribute to the community as best we can 🍻
How often are you planning on upload videos as not going to subscribe if its going to be many weeks inbetween
So stoked for you Randy! This is so rad!
Thanks Alex, might take a while but can't wait to take you out when we get to your side of the world.
