  • This is a micro version of my earlier scientific presentation on long covid found here • Dept of Family Medicin... . Basically, long-covid is bad. The best thing to do is prevent as many covid infections as you/we can through masking, good air ventilation and filtration, case isolation, and paid sick/isolation leave.

Thank you for the short take - awesome information and grateful to hear a family doc sharing experience. Prevention of repeat infection is the best way forward. I love my breathe mask from prescient.

I wish more doctors had your take. Good on you for getting things right in a time public health (worldwide) has failed to muster a proper response and message.

Why is there no mainstream dialogue about nutritional precautions?
The pandemic prompted me to supplement with Vitamin D3 all year long instead of skipping it in the summer like I used to. I make sure to get enough Vitamin D3 to keep my Vitamin D blood level in the range of 60 to 80 ng/mL, the upper part of the normal range. Studies have shown that Vitamin D deficiency (which is very common) increases the risks of severe COVID and COVID death. Why hasn't this been added to the official list of co-morbidities? Vitamin D deficiency is MUCH easier to correct than all those other co-morbidities.
The pandemic prompted me to supplement with Vitamin B12 and other B vitamins daily. I make my own special Vitamin Water with magnesium ascorbate powder and the contents of Nutricost Vitamin B complex capsules. Studies have shown that Vitamin B12 deficiency also increases the risks of severe COVID and COVID death.
The pandemic prompted me to supplement with Vitamin K2 MK4 and Vitamin K2 MK7. These vitamins may enhance the benefits of Vitamin D3.
The pandemic prompted me to get me into the habit of eating one Brazil nut per day. Selenium deficiency leads to a weaker immune system and more inflammation. It's also said to make it easier for viruses to mutate. So why isn't there a push to get everyone to consume enough selenium? Those with nut allergies or intolerances can take a selenium supplement (or a multivitamin that includes selenium).

Long COVID is the reason I haven't completed my reopening process. So far, the only advice on how to avoid Long COVID is to avoid getting COVID in the first place.

That is the only way thus far. Wear a N95 outside the home, even outdoors when others are around. Make sure everyone in the household does the same. With any luck, new vaccines are under development, ones that could prevent transmission and even long covid. As it stands right now the best vaccines can do are prevent severe illness.
I would advise sitting tight until more becomes known about what causes long covid. From all appearances there is no real treatment other than managing a constellation of health problems that resulted.

Also strive for good air ventilation and filtration, potentially explore far uvc light, and get vaccinated. If you get a viral infection, there is some evidence that twice daily nasal irrigation decrease chance of long covid by quite a bit.

Am I the only one who has been eating healthier due to the pandemic? Junk foods and restaurant foods weaken the immune system and promote inflammation. (It's my theory that an unhealthy diet increases the risk of Long COVID.) Thus, I've been avoiding these foods for most of the past 3 years. As I see it, the pandemic has multiplied the health risks of these unhealthy foods. Gone are the days when higher blood cholesterol was the biggest risk. Some things taste better than skinny feels, but nothing tastes better than healthy feels.
At the same time, I've increased the quantity and variety of healthy superfoods in my diet. This includes fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, seeds, and probiotic foods.
Is there any country in the world where most of the population cut back on junk food consumption due to the pandemic? Here in the US, it seems most people have maintained or increased their junk food consumption. Why is there no dialogue about the impact of diet on COVID outcomes? Is junk food sacred?

Any thought to any of this being vaccine injury? That doesn't seem to be a consideration for you and that is concerning.

The research is crystal clear: long-covid is more likely to occur in those who have NOT been vaccinated.

@@dkcalgary You've ignored my question. We can debate who gets/doesn't get Long COVID. You, however, seem to be dismissive of the possibility that the symptoms you discuss are vaccine related. Weird.

@@davidscott3059 as he said, the research is showing long Covid is occurring more in people who are unvaccinated. How can it be due to “vaccine injury” if it’s more prevalent in those who didn’t get the vaccine?
