  • A few tips and tricks I use to catch some northern pike. From 20inches to 40 plus inches this aggressive fish can really make your day! CAM is a channel I subscribe to and he had the best comment about trolling..."The Drug is in the Tug!" ...so right! One could get addicted to those violent hits while trolling. Here in Ontario fishing Georgian Bay this is how I do it, too. A Mepps spinner and just around 2 mph. Catch fish all day :-)

A bit behind lately, sorry for the late response. Best way to get fish in the boat right? Do you ever use the double bladed ones? They have produced a couple of bigger fish for me. Thanks for the comments!

That was my grandfathers preferred method of fishing when he was alive. Up and down the shoreline along the weed beds, all day long and he was fish some monster-sized lures for muskies. To this day I can't stand trolling for fish lol.

I like it later in the day once the fish have moved out a bit, all day would be a bit too much for me as well!

Going to try the Alma Fishing float next weekend and stay at a camp ground.... My lake really died this last month ... In the past - Northerns were biting up to ice out, but this year it has been weird. Small lakes cycle and with covid ... lots of fishing pressure never seen on this small lake i live on. I troll Mepps like you and also have had great success trolling "22 shorts" Amazing bait that few fish with, on Millacs they will catch you monster Pike, Muskie, small mouth and Walleye!! Its a shorter Muskie Bait that runs deep but Phenomenal for Pike. Got my Pontoon put away earlier than would have liked this year but you can Google 22 short bait. Thank Me later Mike! Nice Video

I have a buddy who loves the Alma fishing float! He almost always has good luck. I hope you catch some. Let me know how you do! Looked up the .22 short, good tip! I'll have to add one to my tackle box! Sorry to hear about your lake, its a good one.

What’s your favorite lure to troll with? I typically use a lipless crank bait with a large success rate… but I’d like to try other things!

Mepps #5 spinner green blade and white tail. Catches numbers and some big fish.

I do a similar troll but with jointed raps. Do have some of those mepps though, might have to try em I know they work.

I use a rusty daredevil. Works every time.

So how deep is your lure when trolling at 2 mph? I don't think I saw any weights on your line so I imagine your lure is near the surface? How heavy is the #5 Mepps spinner?

    • @FisherMN
      @FisherMN  3 года назад

Mepps #5 is 1/2 ounce. I let out enough line to feel the lure contact the top of the weeds. Generally, I am fishing along a sharp break or in deeper water18-20ft with tall weeds coming up to 8-10 feet. I am guessing I can get down 7-10 ft depending on the amount of line (17# Nanofil) I let out and my slower trolling speed. Not very scientific, but it seems to work!

Jaw spreader=jaw breaker & hole through snout maker.

I troll for pike this time of year.
My best luck for #'s of fish , is a dbl Chartruese willow blade spinnerbait
Biggest fish of Sept come from Mepps Musky Killer
    # 10 white outside / red inside hairs dbl treble hooks

I like the red and white, seems like a can't miss combo. Green blade makes for a perch look which has worked for me. Willow blades help the lure to get down deeper right?

No need for the jaw spreaders there cruel anc unnecessary ( other than that good video, )
