Yeah that weather was pretty sketchy. Wind, cold, hail, and lightning is a bit much hah. Looked like fun anyway. I'm going to try to find some golden trout next year. Thanks for sharing.
Hail, wind, rain and lightning, what's not to like LOL? High wind is physically draining on me. I learned before my Whitney trips that there is almost no good place to hide from lightning, they say even a cave isn't safe. Scary stuff. Good job helping out some fellow hikers! On the camera lighting, sometimes the GoPro switches the exposure too much. I like the realistic look. If it's dark I say leave it that way, unless maybe you can't see anything. Looks beautiful out there, everything is nice and green. Cool video!
Thanks Mike! Yeah, especially that cave on top of Half Dome. I wonder if it still has the lightning rod sticking out of it? Yeah, you can't really "hide" the best you can do is minimize risk. It was pretty obvious that a lot of folks didn't know the minimize risk part. We saw some crazy stuff, like folks still heading into the thunderstorm in sweats or worse, just not realizing how cold it was about to be. Duck Pass is a popular day hike destination. The majority of folks we saw weren't prepared. (My assessment based on their lack of proper cloths, a pack or even water....) You do a pretty good run through on that in your last video. So much so I'm thinking of upgrading to a text based PLB.
@@highcountrychronicles When we helped those folks at Whitney, about 4:00 am a guy hiked by in thin gym shorts and a thin white T-shirt. And he was sweating. I'm like wtf? He said his friends were behind him somewhere and I asked if they had his clothes! He said it's how he rolls. He looked in great shape so...okay! Couldn't believe it.
@@outsidewithmike LOL. Some ultra runners dress that way. Usually in hot weather. No one ever thinks an accident is waiting for them. I'm sure Inyo SAR would beg to differ. Everyone should be as prepared as they can be.
Agree, cold and wet is miserable. Particularly at altitude. Happened one night while cowboy camping and it began pouring around 1 am. My teeth still have divots from the chattering. Your trips are heroic. Thanks. And natural lighting gets better color saturation….
I did that trip many years ago ( with good weather) and it was fantastic. Beautiful scenery, and good fly fishing at Purple and Ram lakes. I caught a few at Virginia lake, but I think it's such a big lake, it's hit or miss. It was bad weather for you , but the scenery looks beautiful with the threatening clouds and dappling sun light !
Can't argue that! scenery was top notch! Hike wasn't as bad as expected either. I'll definitely be back. Maybe as week trip to hit Fish Creek and Purple and the others.
One of the biggest storms I've been in was going over Duck pass. Awesome area! Thanks again for sharing, Jim:)
@@garycronk4967 thanks for watching!

When you survive it's always fun. 🤣🤣😅 Good luck on your hunts for Goldens!

Yes they are! Thanks for watching!
@@highcountrychronicles i was really enjoying it. i want vita on your hike.
@@itsmebasant4180 Haha! You'll never see Vita on these. LOL. Maybe when I'm car camping or fishing but no backpacking trips.

Must be a warm storm to rain that high up in November.
Oh this isn't recent. It's taken me weeks to finish this edit. This was over labor day.
Don't be sad, two out of three ain't bad...
🤣😅
Well since this video is posted we know you survived the storm!
Yes but Roger could have died. Who knows? 😅
Who knows....
Wind, rain & cold topped by lightening. Sometimes you just have to say enough.
Yeah, if you're through hiking it's a totally different vibe but fishing for me is fishing. :D Thanks for watching!
