    Could this be the reason why the shaft on my Ryobi Trimmer gets VERY hot after running for just a few minutes, and goes WAY faster than it used to, when I first purchased the trimmer? Thanks for the upload too

    It is very important that you put oil in the gear head. Otherwise will get heated up and damage everything in the gear head. Before continuous use just unscrew the bolt in the gear head and put some oil. Keep an oil can pump together with tools. I have used one gear head assembly more than 2 years continuous work. Also check every 15 minutes the head gets heated up or not. If so immediately allow to cool and put oil. Due to continuous scratch with the grass chances are high to leak the oil. Also a miner rework on the cutter (wire) head can make use of a single wire head assembly more than one year continuous work.

      My screw that went into the pole sheared off and fell out somewhere. I'm thinking I just need to follow this, but when I loosened the gear head, the cable is still attached and is coming out attached to gear head. Help.

    I though you are showing how to replace the bearing inside the trimmer head. If just to replace the trimmer head, it is very easy work. The more difficult ia to replace the bearing with new one. It will be much cheaper.

    Sir how to purchase gear head for my grass cutter brand stihl model fs 85 tnx.

  • @mrlee1805

    I couldn't get this off the way it is shown in the video, just chipped the gearbox. Finally I figured out the nut between the gearbox and the trimmer head is what you need to grab, not that little notch like he shows. Use a slim 5/8" wrench to grab the nut then twist the head to the right, it should come right off.

    At video spot 1:52 you say spin counter clockwise but it looks like your turning clockwise? I need to clean some grass that got wound up past the head. This is one gripe I have with Ryobe trimmers. I own a 40v and previously had a 4 cycle. The heads look the same and both get grass wound up in them. Its a constant battle.

    • @Rich-cd8nc
      @Rich-cd8nc 3 года назад

      You are correct. He is TURNING IT CLOCKWISE (to take it OFF) because it's a Left Handed Thread.
      other than that fact, great video.

      May I add, looking at the bottom of the Bump Head is to get it off by turning clockwise.

    I need the big nut inside the head with the splines, can't hold to retighten. Borrower lost it and I'm stuck with trying to repair it. I hate to buy the entire gearbox. It's a Poulan Pro PP335. Anyone know where the big nut can be bought?

    I can't get the spinner head off of mine. I actually chipped a piece of the metal off of that little notch in the attempt, because no amount of pressure will free it. Advice?

    • @FIXTechGuides
      @FIXTechGuides  7 лет назад +1

      Sometimes the trimmer heads get stuck on the threads on the gearbox. If you have some penetrating oil, spray it in the gearcase and the trimmer head and let it rests and soak in for a while. Then if you can, use a little larger screwdriver to lock up the spindle.

    • @fivespeed3026
      @fivespeed3026 7 лет назад

      Are you rotating it clockwise? Most trimmers are reverse threaded.

    • @factsabouturmum9250
      @factsabouturmum9250 7 лет назад

      A few hours after posting this, I got it off using generous amounts of penetrating oil and a ridiculous amount of force. Turns out it was just seized on really solid.
      Thanks for the advice though.

      Nickel Jones - you can substitute another model by installing a sleeve(bushing). I have done the same

    You don't need to put any grease in the new gearhead???

    • @FIXTechGuides
      @FIXTechGuides  7 лет назад

      The internal gears have already been lubed at the factory. You may want to put a little grease on the shaft going into the gear head.

    What are the symptoms of a bad gear head ?

    • @FIXTechGuides
      @FIXTechGuides  7 лет назад +1

      The symptoms of a gear case that is going bad are, excessive gear noise, shaft not rotating, excessive heat. Before you replace the gear case, make sure that the main drive shaft going into the gear case is not worn or broken.

    How warm should the gear head get?

    • @FIXTechGuides
      @FIXTechGuides  6 лет назад +1

      Hi Rob, thanks for your question. Since there is no fan in the gearbox, it is normal for it to get a little warm. However, if it is hot to the touch or noisy, you either have bad bearings or bad gears. I hope this answers your question! Good luck with your repair!

      eReplacementParts.com the reason I was asking is because the head of my weedeater isn't working so I cleaned out the gear box it still spins it's not seized up so I was asking if it's the gear box or something else that could be the problem

    • @Rich-cd8nc
      @Rich-cd8nc 3 года назад +1

      When using a grease gun, take out the screw to allow new grease to push out the old grease.

    You completely skipped over getting the old washer/flange off - if it wasn't for the brief glimpse toward the end of how it slips back on, no one would even know how it comes off/on (and even knowing now, I can't get it off)

    • @FIXTechGuides
      @FIXTechGuides  7 лет назад

      The 678011002 Flanged Washer should come right off. You might have debris , causing it to stick. Or the washer may have worn enough to jamb the splines on the the splined shaft. You may want to take the old gear head and put the end of the flanged washer in a vise and tap on the old gear head with a hammer to see if that will
      release it.
