So, to summarize, the FT-891 has symmetrical heat fins. The FT-891 is a "little taller", the FT-857D is a "little bit bigger", the FT-857D has "more inches here", one has a "lower profile" and there is most definitely "somewhat of a difference" between the FT-857D and the FT-891. If you need accurate dimensions, they can be found in the user manual available from the Yaesu website.

Both great rigs but for mobile, VHF/UHF inclusion is a must. I hope Yaesu releases a true, full power replacement to the 857D in the near future like they did with its big brother, the 897D with the 991a. I find an HF-only car-mounted mobile to be severely limited and not everyone has the interior real estate in their vehicles to mount multiple rigs to compensate.

Yes, they should do that! I bought handy for more band coverage..however, I'm satisfying these(891+vhf handy) now..

The missing UHF/VHF is not a problem for me, When I owned a 857D I rarely used the UHF/VHF functionality. I much pprefer to spend the money and get a separate unit for 2m/70cm.

@@vonbayernDE Not really. Lots of people like it but it was too heavy for me and to menu driven. If I didn't use it for a few weeks then I had to start the learning curve all over.

The 891 isn't the replacement for the 857D . The 891 no uhf or vhf . No SSB 2m is a big miss!😮
