I also use a country's music for "background" when I am reading literature from said country. In this case I have this on while I read a translation of "The River Ki" by Ariyoshi Sawako. I owned this book more than 40 years- in another lifetime, so to speak- and recently acquired a used copy. When I first read it I had never been to Asia. Since then I went a number of times, including to Japan, including to the countryside in Kyushu. Nice to now have an acquaintance with what the place I am reading about probably looks like!
That's why I love Japan, even if terrible things happen to them, they still stand. The traditional music and the culture reflect this. They are one of the bravest people I know of.
It's not a "weird" fascination at all. Alot of people love other cultures and countries. I'm Italian Portuguese and I love the history and culture of places like Japan,China, Taiwan and many more.
I was searching a while to find spiritual music, that touches a very special part inside of me. Because of being middle-european and living in a christian country I thought Christian Chants and music from churches, abbeys etc. would be the right although I am not a believer. But I don't like the sounds and the choral singing. In the end I found what makes me happy and calm in asian music, buddhism and reiki music. By the way buddhism is part of my thinking and behaving for around half a year now. I am sooooo glad, all this very kind and strong items and orientations for life exist.

One day I walk on the street of Okinawa town ,Japon.I saw a traditional japani beautiful girl 'jaoki okura'.Her eyes looking like Arakawa river,Her face expression like Tokra Pacific,she's silence like a Fujiyama volcano,I feel internal earthquake in my heart 7 to 8 magnitude.
