When he spoke about his dog I was so heartbroken for him, poor thing.
My brother had dogs all his life and cant imagine my father doing that. My bro woulda killed him straight up. As for your grandfather calling his kids useless, mine used to call us kids mongrels and useless all the time so can understand your dads korero. Mean korero👊.

Very powerful korero..everyone would tell me what a nice man my dad was...they had no idea the alcohol turned him into a woman bashing monster..I stopped him with a bottle of Lion red to the back of his head as he beat my mum..he never hit her again , but sadly she died 1 year later when I was 16..when my father was 91, I leaned over his wheelchair in the hospital room and told him I forgave him...he died that night..my advice for fathers is this...IF you want your children to lose all respect and grow up despising you, it is a simple formula..bash their mother , that beautiful woman whom gave them life...and loved them unconditionally.. Alcohol is the most insidious drug we have..it eats up and slowly destroys one soul...all the love from Kaiwaka Phil , home to many amazing Paikea's I am proud to call friends..

My siblings and myself were subject to the same abuse by both my parents alcohol abuse, the same story, my Dad would finish work early and straight to the pub and mum close behind, come home and argue and usually end up with Dad beating my Mum black and blue, not always like that but the violence was there, I made a promise to myself that I would never be that person but I ended up the same person in the end unfortunately, it took most of my life before I realized what I was doing was wrong and I am making changes but its hard to regain respect from my kids and my beautiful wife when the damage is already done but I'm trying my best. It's interesting when you mentioned the voices, yeah I had that too, more so me talking to myself like an evil me sitting on my shoulder edging me on and usually me ending up in bar fights when I was young and ended up with a reputation for all the wrong reasons, I used music, any music, sort of like turning off the trigger, well seemed to work for me and still dose, I also gave up alcohol which was a huge game changer for me. Without seeming too self centered of the most part but most of all I did it for my Whanau, my friends and all the people I hurt along the way.
