Though not as widely exported, the newer BMP-3 is the culmination of the Infantry Fighting Vehicle line begun in 1966 through the introduction of the BMP-1 series.
I love the BMP-3, such an amazing bit of kit. A real shame about the level of training of Russian troops and the lack of integrated radio communication in the Russian armoured brigades.
It's not a lack of comms or training, it's because modern battlefield surveillance capabilities make concealing forces even those as small as the platoon level extremely difficult.
@AethelwulfOfNordHymbraLand2333 yes it definitely plays a part but their tactics and logistics is very poor. Armoured warfare is very overt and the lack of concealment is equal to the environment.
Its a thin skinned death trap but its cheap to build. It really is easy to puncture. But if you don't care about survivability or are fighting against goat herders with sticks ...... its pretty good

a perfect tool..!
