Based on your rain comments near the end, i really want to see how Actually Smart Summon performs in heavy rain thats the main use case for it i.m.o.
Ooh you're totally right.
same i feel like that's like the only time i'd use it
When someone is parallel parking, you should wait for them to finish, as it’s often challenging for most drivers. Passing them while they’re trying to park can be uncomfortable for both you and the person parking.
Unfortunately, there is no Thumbs-up button to show the developers when it does exceptionally well in some situations. It should be given a chance to learn from its wins as well as its mistakes.
It learns from its wins by not receiving any negative feedback. That said Tesla FSD does not "learn" in the way Musk claimed it would. There are problem areas that come up over and over that never get fixed even after Tesla sends many test drivers to the problem area for over a year. That's why Tesla FSD vision-only can never be the robotaxi Musk promised would be working by 2020. It will always be the same Level 2 it has been for over 7 years now. The design is a fail.
Your mother is a fail

5:17 FSD correctly predicted that the driver would need to stop, because of the red light, but the van decided to run a red light, which is why it felt so assertive in this moment.
Assuming they will stop is incredibly dangerous because oncoming traffic may not have a red light.
@@milanlatona7363 If you get a red light, they'll also have a red light. The van ran his red. But I agree, simply assuming the van would stop is dangerous.
12.5.4 has been pretty good for me except, as you noted, they REALLY need to fix speed control. On my rural country roads I'm pedaling the thing like a bicycle: accelerator to increase speed, the car slows down slowly under the limit, rinse and repeat constantly. It's definitely NOT full self driving when you have to constantly pedal!
Same! But our RUclips friends don't show that so Tesla will not work on it! They only show in town driving which works decent.
This has been an issue for me on earlier versions. Drives me crazy when it slows down and I have to keep pumping the accelerator.
Unfortunately v12 taking away the set min speed has made this also the experience on the highway. I have to push the accelerator literally every 5 seconds to bring it back to the speed I set. And it drifts out of the lane on curves. And I can't adjust follow distance anymore. And it dosn't want to drive in the rain/dark. And it makes incessant infuriating beeps when I force it to. And I can't use just cruise control when it limits the speed due to rain. And, in general, the highway experience has only gotten MUCH worse over the last couple years.
Yep, speed control is unusable. I turn it off and adjust the speed with the scroll wheel.
@@StormyDog but then you’re not on FSD, you’re on autosteer, correct? I don’t think FSD allows you to control speed with the scroll wheel, please correct me if I’m wrong. I am on 12.5.4 and can’t control the speed with the scroll while on FSD.
Another great video. Your insight is spot on. I agree with your assessment about downtown not passing a parallel parker.
FINALLY got 12.5.4 with Summon on my 2023 Model Y. Had Summon on my other two Teslas and really missed it on the Vision Only Model Y. Use it to move the vehicles when dressed in work clothes or after a workout. Also, have used a weight on the wheel when traveling on the highway. Now I can get rid of that weight.
Turning into oncoming traffic isnmuch worse than going around parallel parking maneuver. I did a left turn yesterday and got a bit too close to the right turn lane for the opposite direction. Earmed a honk.
8:18 maybe they saw that FSD can handle this on its own, meaning it got enough training data to identify those signs as signal in the video streams, and removed the V11 detection which blocked FSD from progressing in case of a red light and no turn on red sign, but it's not that well working on some sign positions or something like this?
Make sure to send in plenty of training data with voice reports, so they can add more cases and get this working better.
6:16 do you use Joe mode or is it just that the mic filters out the sound from the speakers so well? Because the indicator is barely noticeable in the videos, if at all.
Would be nice if you could hear the indicator better. If there's a way to record the sounds of the car, maybe do this and overlay it? 🤔
8:55
If you look at the animation, it showed that the car in the oncoming lane saw what was happening and had moved over to make room already. If the other car had stayed in the middle of their lane, I dont think it would have tried.
As far as should it, absolutely. There are way too many scenarios that it would be waiting on if it wasnt allowed to for example cross a double yellow to go around an obstruction. Like 13:10 as you noted.
4:01 what happens if you turn on the right turn signal when it's supposed to turn left here? 🤔
That's not as random as it seems, because the navigation showed that as alternate route. I wonder if you can ask it to go an alternate route by using just the turn signal.
@@RubenKelevra I have tried this back on 12.3 and it basically ignored my input and kept following the route. I just got FSD again(after the free trial) and will probably try this soon. Ping me if I don't leave a 2nd comment In a week
At 14 minutes 10 seconds, the other people to your right waved you ahead because they had to wait for a pedestrian to cross on the left side of the screen
Great video! Thanks.
Great vid! Comment added for algorithm.
Hover accelerator, especially approaching end-of-green light signals.
Great video as always! Keep up the good work!

Available for HW3?
Yep. Just installed last night on our HW3 2023 MYLR.
Same. M3SR with hardware 3. Got it over the night. Haven't used yet.
@@TransmissionsI’m getting 2024.27.10 FSD 12.5.2.1 now Does that have to sequence in before I get 12.5.4? Thanks for the help!
Got it yesterday on 23 MY, in Canada
@@bruceyarbro9986 We went from 2024.20.7 to 2024.27.25.
Speed seems like the easiest fix, the lowest hanging fruit. Any idea why they can't program it to just go the posted limit? I have another similar gripe: coming nearly to a stop to exit a highway, down to 20mph or less. Meanwhile everyone behind me is going 60+, how is that behavior considered better than what the average driver would do? I'm talking about a sunny day, dry roads...
Like I always say - there's two schools of thought with fsd. One is if there was no one in the driver seat. You, as a passenger, would want ultra safety even if it's annoying other drivers. The other is if it's just driving for you where you want it to drive as if you're impatient. Like coming to a full stop vs a small roll through.
Yeah, that fist left turn you had to disengage for, that last van that went through, did so on a red. It was your right of way. :) Car was correct. Good stuff.
2:35 look at the visualization, it's crazy how accurate the prediction of the lane lines and the vehicle blocking the lane is at that point. There's zero visibility of that info :0
Right, I have no idea how it knew that...
@@DirtyTesla well, it saw cars on the right not making any movements to the right, so it projected the lane to be going straight, and also saw the truck in the lane ahead, be the small part which was visible above the car in front.
So just a good guess, based on the signals available, but it's scary often correct and better than we :)
🎉
What do you mean by Lax?
not stringent/relaxed
@@DirtyTesla That explains why vision based driving with sunglasses have been removed from upcoming improvements.
Who else mostly just watches the tesla animation on the screen other than the actual road. It gives me way more understanding of what the car is doing than watching the road, through the windscreen. 😂
I always wonder what people are watching more. I find myself watching the road mostly (while watching the video) if I don't think about it, but I enjoy watching the animation more.
I watch the road mostly then rewind to look at the screen when something interesting happens.
Just FYI, the car doesn’t “use” the visualization or any detected objects for controlling the vehicle since FSD V12. This is because it uses end-to-end neural nets now. Camera Pixels in, controls out. The visualization is merely a separate model run so us inferior humans can have something on the screen 😊
You're a danger to yourself and others, you should be ashamed.
New vid!
Once you get used to FSD you’re not going back
Just got5.2.1 and its terrible
How'd you just get 12.5.2.1. that's not even being sent out any anymore,?
seems worse
Fsd solved end of 2024......
Aaaaany day now
Still worthless as long as you have to constantly be prepared for a mistake….driving yourself is much less stressful
You may feel that way, and that’s completely understandable. As a Tesla driver I personally feel less stressed and more relaxed using autopilot. Especially as these updates progress. 👍
I completely disagree here. I have two coworkers with your mindset(and that's a valid opinion), but For me, the supervising and being ready for "anything" is more stress in low stress situations, but also much less fatiguing on my mind and that adds up to a more enjoyable drive experience.
I mentioned low stress situations, cause I've been in complex highway interchanges that I've never seen, and I would've been super stressed, but FSD took all of that away cause I just chilled and it got me where I needed to be.
@@cxvzf Lies. You have to constantly monitor the drive….if you aren’t you need to stay off the road you are a danger
@@bsears693 Obviously you are an inexperienced driver then.
@@daveblockI love how you're claiming he's lying about his personal experience lol Also, mileage with fsd turned on is 10X safer than the average american. How is it that he is a danger to the public???
I think crossing the double yellow to get around someone parking is sort of like rolling stop signs. It’s technically not legal but if no other car is coming and no one is endangered, then no harm no foul.
It's perfectly legal. In my state at least, the law is you must yield half the roadway and the double yellow just marks the halfway point. In this case when passing, "yield" is further specified as returning to the right side of the road before coming within 100 feet of oncoming traffic. So only illegal when there's oncoming traffic within 100 feet.
@@dishwashersafe222 So what FSD tried to do was illegal since there was an oncoming car
@@dishwashersafe222 In my state, you're allowed to pass someone on a solid double yellow if they are going less than half the speed limit. This is mostly to deal with farm equipment driving 6mph down the main roads. There is no certain amount of distance a car needs to be in the oncoming lane, it just says far enough away that you can pass and return to your side safely and without interfering with oncoming traffic.
@@DirtyTesla I think we can safely say that pulling out in front of oncoming traffic is bad regardless of the legality ;p
The third disengagement is also very subjective and due to the driver own preference. FSD moves at the right time when the light turned green, the driver disengaged the car due to his slow reaction to light as a human(human is slower than FSD😂)
He waved you ahead because there was a pedestrian crossing, and he couldn’t proceed. Technically, you should have gone, or at least I would have. 😂
Good call
I will say that with this new iteration, at least in my car, the windshield wipers on auto are overly active. It could just be the motors in my wipers. I might get it checked out. As for the commentor who said it’s worthless and more stressful, personally, that is absolutely not the case for me. It’s more like just monitoring someone else’s driving. It is absolutely85% less stressful than driving on my own.
Yeah, we got the ASS a couple of days ago.
I hope they fix the last... FSD 'thing' we experienced just before the update. Unexpectedly the car (Mod 3 Highland) and several times during a 200 mile trip went into mad acceleration episodes. On a 55 mph road it would quickly accelerate to 75 mph, without warning and for no clear reason. In one instance it was moving so fast, it couldn't fully move into the left turn lane and caused my wife to fully and officially panic. During the same trip, there were instances where it was driving 50 mph on a 60 mph road.
So... strange...
Finally someone said it! The last few iterations the speed is not maxed or at my preferences in even city driving, it's usually lower than speed limit for far too long. Also, at stop lights, it takes too long this time to just get going. It used to go right away after it turned green. Hopefully they fix these quick, I hate tapping the accelerator all the time. lol
Lived in a small town most of my life, this would make fewer mistakes and probably be more fluid in traffic than people who aren't used to city's downtown and freeway driving
Thank You Everybody for All that you are doing for our Planet Earth.
... Peace.. Shalom.. Salam.. Namaste
🙏🏻 😊 ✌ ☮ ❤
I hate it when someone tries to run the yellow light, even though it's clear that I will be stuck in the middle of the road on red because of them. I am that assertive FSD, that will speed in front of you when you're supposed to be stopping rather than speeding up. You're time is not more important than mine or anyone else's on the road.
Ya know … you CAN disable the “Auto Speed”‼️ It took two attempts, but then I was able to set it back to 14% above the speed limit. (14% I find to be perfect ➙ 23 in a 20, 40 in a 35, 63 in a 55, and 74 in a 65 … safe from most police in Massachusetts)
I have had 12.5.4 for a while now. I do not live in an area where any of the RUclips testers live. I have NEVER had a no disengagement drive. The worst issue seems to be with the nav map. It is way worse than whatever Apple CarPlay uses. Away from major cities it doesn’t know posted state highway speed limits. Insists on getting into westbound exit where we need the eastbound exit, etc. This kind of seems like a softer than Waymo version of worse navigation coding away from “special” areas defined by where the frequent RUclips posters are.
I feel for all you people stuck on FSD 12.3.6 for what seems to be forever. Even when you do move to a newer version it's just a newer base version but still FSD 12.3.6.
Still sucks in the country! Still takes corners off the road into the rocks/road edge, still can't hold speed over long straight roads and slowly decreases speed, still goes
Yeah, why does the navigation route planner and FSD seem to be off so oftern.
FSD may have become better than the supervisor!
I spent many years at Michigan and have never seen a pedestrian weight at a crosswalk! Lol
Weight?🤣
Siri. I didn’t proof
@@justdigitgood old US education 🫡
Looking more closely at the parallel parking event, that was REALLY on the ragged edge! It does look like there was room to follow that first car around because the oncoming car was well to the outside of their lane. Also, the reverse lights on the Parker were hard to see, so maybe the fsd assumed the car was just stopped in the road, not about to back up, and the lights came on at the last second. I am glad you hit the brakes, though, and it was WAY too close for comfort!
Wow,this is horrible,still Level 2
For erroneous disengagements where the software was in the right, you could always leave a voice note i guess, saying the human was wrong?
He presses a icon on the screen, ferromagnetic there, Tesla can see what happened. 😊
“Where’s your foot”
Dirty Tesla, while i like this version so far, and ASS has worked buttery smooth, I have noticed some regressions on the city stack.
Making turns, at times the wheel is a little jerky, where with 12.3.6, it did everything smooth.
Also, something has come back for me that has been gone for a long time. Phantom Braking…… not terrible, but it seems with the extra data on a 5x inference is making it seem things and probably mistaking them for bumps or objects. Seems like it happens in shady areas.
Also, it seems like some of the map data has changed? I had it take me to a rideshare lot in the airport in Atlanta. It was supposed to go to the right, but it wanted to go to the left with 0.3 miles remaining.
Yeah, got it yesterday and have had a few phantom brake instances. The big thing I’ve noticed is yellow light behavior. Before the car would push the limits between yellow and red lights. Yesterday the car very aggressively stopped for a yellow light, almost to the point of chirping the tires and being slightly over the stop line. Lane selection doesn’t seem to have improved over the last version and we also had a re-route from the map route.
First drives always get a pass from me as it always seems to take a few drives for a version to settle in.
Great video. I'm waiting on this update, sometimes there at my car day 1 and sometimes day 14.. Hate the way they appropriate updates lol
Until today I was on 12.3.6 and just got the 12.5.4. Somehow my car skipped a few steps. 😂 it seems to have no rhyme or reason as when you get the updates in relation to other people/cars, just be patient, you’ll get it.
@@alexp.6406 got it and not really liking it. Definetly not as confident as 12.5.1.5. Now when i come to lights or stop signs it doesn’t instantly take off, it almost sits there for a second thinking. With 12,5.1,5 i think i never had to push the pedal to give it a little push, but this .4 I’ve pushed the pedal multiple times today
@@kottuning3294 same here have to be pressing the pedal like crazy might as well get a pedal bike :))))
For me, FSD version 12.5.2 was a lot more consistent than 12.5.4. This version keeps brake checking people, giving up in the middle of an intersection, and almost rear-ending other cars. It also sometimes imagines stop signs and refuses to go on green lights. Smart Summon is amazing, but I wish it came with the model in 12.5.2. I was able to drive from the Bay Area to Bremerton, Washington without a single intervention, but I am doubtful 12.5.4 could do the same.
Useful article: *"Tesla Full Self-Driving 'Occasionally Dangerously Inept' In 1,000-Mile Independent Test"* Would I trust my life to a system that is "Occasionally Dangerously Inept"? Ummm... NAH! I've worked as a computer developer for decades, and acknowledge the unpredictability of electronics _and_ human-written programs. Unlikely that I'll ever travel in a vehicle driven by a computer.
They’re going to use ASS for the Robotaxi demo. It will take people for drives around pre determined area. Not very ground breaking.
Was waiting for this!
14:50 Same, the majority of interventions while in steady driving are accelerator presses. I only sometimes hover the brake if my "spidey sense" detects it may jump out from a stop when it shouldn't. To me, it *feels* like the accelerator press requires the most urgency (to not get rear ended). Pulling out from a stop too soon, there is usually more time before you get in harm's way.
If you want to stress test 12.5.4, drive it at night on a winding, two lane highway at speed. If the headlights of an oncoming car are at the right angle and too bright, my 2024 M3LR (HW4) squawks at me and goes hard to the brakes. Not cool!
I downloaded 12.5.4 today on my HW3 2019 Model 3. A.S.S. works great except it disregards direction of travel for one way parking lots to take the shortest path to me. I noticed it does not reverse before going forward, maybe uses Ultra sonics? Auto speed is useless to dangerous. Lane selection is better than V12.5.2.1 which I had for 3 days from V12.3.6.
My 2021 model Y updated from 12.3 to 12.5.2 last night. My 15 mile drive to work this morning felt very different not having to touch the steering wheel. However, I did notice that it wants to drive even more slowly than 12.3 which was already my biggest complaint. I also noticed that there was some lack of smoothness on the throttle. Although the car was showing a consistent speed. I could feel the car making micro adjustments to the speed, which was not ideal.
I've been wearing sun glasses with FSD for a year (I bought my car a year ago) without issues. My biggest complaint is when the car is turning at a stop sign, I'll watch oncoming traffic to make sure it doesn't do anything stupid, but the car will complain that I need to keep my eyes on the road.... which is EXACTLY what I'm doing at that time. It also bitches if I look at the console to change the temp. Still has phantom breaking issues in areas with complex shade (trees casting potty shadows or light beams), or freaking out because it sees construction cones on a sidewalk and wanting to drive 25-30 in a 45 zone. Slamming on the breaks when a light goes yellow. When I see slam on the breaks, I'm talking about everything flying off the seats breaking. Thank God there hasn't been anyone behind me when that happens. Don't forget School Zones. Tesla FSD doesn't honor school zone speed limits with the flashing sign. Also, the "minimal lane changes" option doesn't seem to help much anymore. :(
Don't get me wrong, I love the FSD and it's useful for getting around, but there are some serious issues that still need fixing.
12.5.4-sunglasses monitoring turned off a few times then came back on. Overall better driving. Several AB 0/0 drive. One pause at right turn green light. Auto Speed is not optimal. Good merging. Smooth.
On surface streets, I am finding FSD 12.5.4 is “uneven“ and it’s speed maintenance. It’s like it samples the speed of the car ahead and then readjusts its speed multiple times a second but this results in a constant light acceleration and deceleration that is very unpleasant. It’s like driving with a 2 foot driver with 1 foot on the gas and 1 foot on the brake constantly fighting each other as all the heads in the car bob back-and-forth during what should be relatively steady speed driving. This is new and was not present in previous versions of FSD. FYI, I just upgraded from 12.3.6.
How do I know which version of FSD I will get when I subscribe?? Last month I subscribed to FSD and I got an old version which was not satisfactory. The version you have seems much better.
You don’t pick. You can subscribe or pay for FSD then you get the updates as Tesla pushes them out, the same as those who have had FSD.
@@cxvzf I don’t want to pay for that old version. It wasn’t worth it. The least they could do is tell us what version they are pushing out at this time.
You'd only get 12.3.6 or 12.5.4. both are great. I just got 12.5.4 today and the previous one was so good I was hesitant to let it update. You won't get a version 11.
Wait until your base software version (eg 2024.27.25) is on a version that has the newest FSD. It might take a while for this to happen if you aren't subbed to FSD, but it's the only way to be sure.
@@DirtyTeslaI just updated to 2024.27.10 a few days ago. I feel like having my software update mode set to "advanced" has never worked for me. Hell, I've driven rental teslas with newer software that I wouldn't see for months.
Please add a pop-filter to your voice over mic setup, or if you have one add a better one 😅
I wonder if FSD is starting to remember things.
I see a major issue that needs addressed....turning the wheel ahead of time when turning left into traffic. Getting rearended while doing that is a head-on collision.
I 1000% agree that lane changes have some kind of limitation. On 12.5.2 it has put its signal on, and then just not changed lanes. Completely clear road, no one around, turn signal on, but no change. Until maybe 5-10 seconds after it first signaled.
I'm worried some of the regressions are because HW3 can't handle the extra data, and they want to give "compressed" HW3 builds to HW4 cars.
The drivers’s three subjective disengagements are all due to his personal preference from my point view; 1st Disengagement - the driver forced the car to let the semi turn right at first although there is enough time and space. 2rd disengagement - the driver forced the car to wait then FSD creep the car forward perfectly when the light is turning green , FSD just wanted to turn at the right time!. 3rd disengagement- FSD wanted to bypass a car stop in front of the tesla car and intended to reverse, FSD has enough time and space to bypass, but the driver disengage the FSD
The CINTAS truck driver should not have accelerated on his yellow seeing that you were trying to make a left. Curious to see what would have happened if you did not disengage. Would it have stopped or not?
The fourth disengagement (the driver called the third) is also not necessary, FSD wanted to bypass another car was reversing, and there is enough space for FSD to move forward, and the driver stop it. Again personal preference
Always hovering the foot, even on longer drives I may rest my heel on the ground, but my foot is ready to take over in case FSD does something crazy (which over my past six years of experience with it, it has done so many times).
Is the function where turning off turn signal stops a turn new for 12.5.4 or only on cars with stalks? Tried it in the past on 12.5 and it didn’t work. Also if you hold the turn signal with no destination does it force it to turn. Someone said yes but I have been unable to get it to work ever.
Thanks for the advice.
I have a late 2022 MX H3 and just started installing 2024.27.25.
I just got 12.5.4 but haven't used it yet. I was on 12.3.6 previously and it would always turn at a no turn on red near my house.
What specifically don’t you see as robotaxi ready? Seems at least in some ways that’s a less of a standard. You don’t have as many driver preferences. Just get there.
It seems that when I post this comment, I get it so here it goes - Yeah right! I still don't have it, 12.3.6 4life ugh!!
12.5.4 suuuuuuuuuuucks. I'll take 12.3.6 back thanks.
I think when you suddenly reengage and that parallel parker was right there that’s tough for the cat to make a perfect choice but it wouldn’t have went around if it couldn’t have. Obviously the car in front went so it would have been g fine
That no turn on red looked like youngir the brake when it was green. Maybe it was seeing that the cross reaffic turned red and was predicting the green was about to happen.
Hard tobsay when watchkng and not feeling it of course.
I never see the speed issues. My car is doing great with speed lately. Before 12.5.2.1 it would pretty much do speed limit only now it will flow traffic better and do 5-10 over as all other cars are going and we are all used to.
The speed control is really bad for me as well.
ASS is too slow in parking lots. It goes like 8/9 KPH and people behind the car have been getting pissed off.
Please consider putting the cars cameras up on screen instead of wide visualisation. Gives us a much better situational awareness. Thanks for sharing. Good vid.
Cybertruck FSD?......... Bah Humbug Elon....
Soon..
Have you ever tried to route it without navigation just using the turn signals? I did part of a drive that way with one or two turns and it works, but I wonder how far you can go by simply guiding it with the turn signal stock.
Speed control has been a real problem where it’s always going significantly under the posted speed limit and I always need to nudge the accelerator.
I am always amazed how well FSD does and especially on roads unknown to the driver, I believe it will be far better.
Have you noticed it hesitates or doesn't go immediately sometimes on green lights? I am having that issue at night with 12.5.4.
14:05 They waved you ahead because the pedestrian to your left was preventing them from going anyway.
It seems that it doesn’t necessary to make the first two disengagements, it is only because the driver is not confident enough. It is so obvious
I would have turned in front of that slow truck, but I suppose that isn’t the best maneuver.
It’s so smooth! I do not drive as good as the car. No doubt, no exaggeration. I do not accelerate or decelerate as well as the car.
I hope I’m getting this soon! Very excited and thank you for an awesome video.
I would wait for the parallel parker. it only takes a minute.
It's gotten so good. Hopefully they buckle down on speed control soon.
