Usually the point of a lock is to simply discourage quick opportunists or to make sure there's noise and clear signs of a break-in, if burglary happens. You need quality safes or vault doors to actually stop a determined person.
@@Danthemandra you don't even need to have numbers on them to solve it. Its very simple, Just spin them one by one until they start sliding. I know this would be easier to understand if you all could touch it. Even a child can crack it. It's more of a puzzle for 5 year olds rather than a lock.

I love these. While it’s redundant and useless for security overall, it’s the back to basics that inspires me. Living in a world where everything is so complicated, things like this remind us of how technology was. And for people to explore and put to test their own skills and theories for solving problems, gives us all more exposure to the algorithm in each of our respective brains. The more we absorb, the bigger the archive of knowledge we have to pull functional and usable techniques from simple things like this. Ignore the haters, appreciate the jokes and recognize that you just added more tool skills to your talent. No matter how small or outdated the project is, time is being well spent. I now have an even more simple explanation for how locks tend work, this would be great as a introduction to locking mechanisms in a late elementary school physics lesson that also introduces the world of metal working, welding, and engineering.
Put this lock on the inside to slow someone down trying to get in. And you could use a larger diameter metal rod. The “combination” could be a safety to keep it from being manipulated into opening but easy for someone inside to open.
Ah now I see it. There are Grove all the way around the rod for the pins to lock against. And the one long groove along it's length to allow the pins somewhere to go when you unlock and slide the rod out of the latch
That was actually cool. I’ve sat through these type of videos with cutting, grinding, welding and intricate machining and the end result is a spatula holder.
On a conceptual level, this is garbage... You can lock picking this "lock" very easy... You can feel the pins when you rotate those screws, you can even see the pins if you place your eyes in the right position... 😂 This is a primitive mechamism. There is nothing fine and less perceived in that mechamism as it is in a modern lock...
Clever as hell and you're a master with an angle grinder. Now if we could just get you to weld the stuff right, it might actually work rather than break off after a few uses. If it's a novelty, good job!

And if someone is picking a lock, unless they're a locksmith, they more than likely have a set of tools. Like everyone says, locks keep an honest man out.

No matter what combination you choose. I could open that lock in just a few seconds. Same concept as the old cheap bike locks. I learned how to open them as a kid nearly forty years ago. It doesn't even take a full minute.
Ultimately you only really need your lock to be as complex as it is physically tough, because yeah if someone can just snap it off it don't matter how fancy your locking mechanism is. Locks are also just meant to slow people down, so if you extended this simple bolt lock in the video to be 9 or 10 digits i I think it could potentially be okay. You don't need to lock everything behind a Master necessarily

Just hold the lock to the opening direction, move the first number and it ll move a bit, do the same with the rest, and you are done
