    Have you been to a Sacred Fire before?

  • @danijohnson4606

    The last time I was at a Sacred fire, all of the women brought their drums and sang together. Then we all made tobacco ties and said our own prayers and put tobacco and cedar in the fire. At the end we all brought food to share, and we made sure to fill a plate and leave it for our ancestors while we ate.

      Hi I’m trying to learn about how to leave offerings to my ancestors, what do you do with the plate after you offer it? Do you give it to someone who needs food or reserve it for only them? Just wondering

    Thank you for asking for people's input. I had the privilege of being invited to a sweat lodge ceremony. It was my first and although I wimped out I stayed for the entire ceremony, fetching the hot rocks from the fire so that the ones who could stand the heat could go through the whole ceremony uninterrupted. I consider it a great honor to have been invited and allowed to have been a part of things that day. It is something I will always hold in my heart and take with me.
    Thank you my relatives

    As a firekeeper, I was charged with all of the above, what she said, but also, to not allow dogs near the fire, and to enforce, 'No Cussing '. Firekeepers remain in a state of prayer while tending the fire. One other use that was left out, is Drumkeepers warm there drums by the fire, and say their prayers before playing.

    I haven't been to a traditional Native American type sacred fire before, but did attend a fire puja once. I know, totally different but it was so much fun to just gather with my community, participate in a ritual and learn new traditions of another culture. Being open minded should be standard in life, just as being kind and considerate. It was still a most enjoyable and spiritual experience, with drums, incense and we listened to the monks chant. Very moving experience.

    Question: in order for a sacred fire to be successfully executed, should the participants have a blessing From someone or have the direct permission from a tribe for proper cultural practitioner? In other words, is there a proper or authentic way to do this that maximizes the cultural respect from which these rituals come from?

    • @MalloryRoseCo
      @MalloryRoseCo 2 года назад

      Thanks for your question. Here's some more info about sacred fires. www.ontarioaboriginalhousing.ca/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/sacredfire2.pdf typically sacred fires are started and watched over by a fire keeper. This person is usually asked to be the fire keeper or chosen by their community to be a fire keeper. It is a question I believe, best left for an elder or healer to answer. Depending on where you're located, it's a great idea to contact your closest native healing centre or health centre. You can make an appointment with a healer or elder who can further guide you on the topic! :)
