"Iconic" is thrown around almost as irresponsibly as "epic" and "genius" and "masterpiece" these days. Everything is now either the best, or the worst, "ever", and the truth is that it's really hardly ever so... it just gives people something to say/argue about on the internet.
That final question you asked made me realize how almost every major villain in Batman could have their own origin movie because his rogue's gallery is one of the most fascinating in comics history.
@F the difference between what you said, and what the O.P. said is the word, "All" & "Almost." It's like those that state every movie they watched is either "complete garbage" or a "fantastic film" forgetting those different shades of grey in between..... So yeah, I'll agree with "almost" but "all" is a bit too much.

Regarding Joker, three quotes immediately jumps to mind; “We know so little about one another. We embrace a shadow and love a dream.” “We want to be loved; failing that, admired; failing that, feared; failing that, hated and despised. At all costs we want to stir up some sort of feeling in others. Our soul abhors a vacuum. At all costs it longs for contact.” “Nothing so reduces and drags down a human being as the consciousness of not being loved.” - Hjalmar Söderberg, from Doctor Glas
@worldd777 i see it as an event movie, where its fun hype while joker is the real hype to see if the joker moive can work and if well in box office then more origins films of other villains
The Riddler, when written well, has always fascinated me, so I'd say him. I think Jake Gyllenhaal could play a great Riddler. David Tennant as well. He was outstanding in Jessica Jones.
"What other Batman villain origin story would you be cool with?" Not necessarily a villain but A Death in the Family/ Under the Red Hood would be amazing. As a Jason Todd fan though lol
Jason Todd doesn't get enough love outside of comics. First, the DCAU completely skipped him and made Tim Drake the second Robin, the recent animated movies skipped right from Dick Grayson to Damien Wayne, and nearly every other animated or live action property puts the spotlight on Dick Grayson.
@@randomer246 As much as I don't like Damian, if they keep building him up, he'll probably surpass Dick. Damian has so much plot armor that he's basically got full plate on.

I feel like a live action adaptation of Mr Freeze's origins from Batman: The Animated series (with the dying wife cryogenically frozen and all that) would be amazing. Especially with Bryan Cranston in the role.

“The Scarecrow” Johnathan Crane-Charlie Heaton Shows the abusive childhood of Johnathan, as he grew up on a farm with his two parents. Johnathan’s dad constantly made Johnathan fearful of his everyday life, which eventually causes Johnathan’s mother to kill the father. They both hid the body by propping him up to appear like a cornfield scarecrow. The movie cuts to Johnathan moving to Gotham City to attend college. We see Crane faces a lot of bullying and harassment for his interests and behaviour, which causes him to snap. He begins experimenting with early stages of fear gas which leave the victim in a state of hallucinagenic shock. Crane creates an early version of the scarecrow persona and tests the gas on the kids who bullied him, and also his professors at GCU. After each test Crane records the results and makes improvements to the chemicals he uses. The final stages of the film see Crane receive a job as a psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum
I really hope this movie makes studios realize we want more serious and realistic stories rather than big cgi fights and having every other line being a funny quip.
it's not necessarily the seriousness it's the character building.... give us proper characters likeable or hate-able just authentic. none of this bland just a name to get ppl to sit through a 5 min greyscale scene of buildings falling down with loud noises. the mcu has a lot of more humorous tone movies but they work because the audience gets invested in the characters, the scripts are good and the universe works overall. by the sounds of it jokers well built and the characters interesting... hopefully no more martha crap
Yes please my God! The constant need for comedy in EVERYTHING really gets old. IT Chapter 2 balanced it really well to keep the weight of the movie regulated with Richie and Eddy’s funny moments.
@@kevinm5940 True. However, Joker didn't push Harvey Dent into madness as a single event. It required killing Rachel, blaming the mobsters, appealing to Harvey's feelings of fairness, and giving him a gun. These were little pushes that led to an intense and abrupt fall.
Saw it yesterday..I wouldn't recommend it to the light minded. I felt like that guy was me.. It messes you mentally manh..Full on psycho I'd say.. 10/10 movie.
Now that's an interesting call. i would be so onboard with that IF they made him out to be Hassan I Sabbah as i feel that man may have been partly an inspiration for Ras. It would give him solid grounding in history of a murky character most never hear of who had a massive influence upon other powerful people of the time. Parts of James Earl Jones character in Conan The Barbarian, Thulsa Doom, was based upon Hassan, the man who gave us the English language the words Hashish and Assassin. The part where he points to an follower on a cliff and they willingly jump to their death, is a real account of Hassan ! That could SO be Ras !
I feel like this movie is dangerous, but not in the way people are saying it is. It won't invite violence or anything like that. It's dangerous because this movie makes you sympathize with the Joker, but it doesn't make you root for him or hope he succedes. It's dangerous because it's a movie that makes you question the *reasons* why Arthur does what he does rather than just writing him off as cartoonish evil. It makes you realize the inherent problem in our society, that the poor and the mentally ill are forgotten and abandoned. It's a movie that doesn't let you see things in black and white. It's absolutely dangerous, but it's dangerous because it makes us confront issues in society rather than ignore them. All the people saying it will Incite violence are just wanting to ignore the message and go back to their black and white narrative that lets them continue to ignore people in need.
@@mizufurui674 durr SJWs hurr imagine falling for that actual boomer level bullshit and thinking any high tier award show is ever fair in this society if the rich people decide he gets it then he gets it. you don't and will never have any say.
I mean, realistically not. The comic book movie world just doesn’t get recognized. (The fact that Jackman didn’t get nominated for Logan still irks me). I fully believe that the Academy only gave Ledger the Oscar as a way to pay respect to his passing. Either way, the Oscars are out of touch anyway. I mean, we are talking about a collective of individuals who believed that Black Panther (an objectively incoherent film) was qualified for a Best Picture nom.
@@milanxlewis True. However his taste in movies is fairly close to my taste in movies, so when he says he thinks it's good I'll modt likely enjoy it too.
When you said that you "rooted for him not to snap," I was sold. That's what I think this movie needed to be. It needed to make us want this man to be good, to find a way to cope, to find happiness, but to ultimately break and become something we can't support. For him to become something we can only really hate, even if we have some sympathy for him.
Well said. Joker is a character I feel people have a little too unhealthy a "love" for. That little bit of realism and hatred for what the character becomes is really needed and should leave you with a healthy revile mixed with sympathy for the man who snapped... A character written well enough to embrace all the right emotions and leave us thinking "I can't really be a fan of this character but man, what a movie!"
When he was talking about all the changes that leaves you like “how did we get here” it made me sad because that’s how we felt with the Anakin into Darth Vader change except we meant it in a completely different way.
That is exactly what i thought at that instant. We always needed this story for Anakin.....his change was a switch flip in the film and it cheapened what we know was a much deeper "Joker" like journey.
I know I'm in the minority, but I actually liked the rushed change for Anakin. I always thought Palps played and timed things perfectly...he set up Padme's death in Anakin's mind..then literally puts him on the spot with Mace. Mace is about to strike Palps down while Palps is basically pleading "save me to save your wife". Once Ani made the decision to kill Mace there was no going back. A heat of the moment decision with no course reversal afterward. (Again, just my opinion). Oh, can't wait to see Joker, sooo happy they did this right.
So here’s a hypothetical: imagine the movie was called “Arthur” and the fact that it’s a Joker movie was kept secret until the film’s release.

Utkarsh Singh bro the unanswered questions are part of it, it’s so everyone has a different theory or just to make it a mystery. @F the difference between what you said, and what the O.P. said is the word, "All" & "Almost." It's like those that state every movie they watched is either "complete garbage" or a "fantastic film" forgetting those different shades of grey in between.....

Regarding Joker, three quotes immediately jumps to mind;
“We know so little about one another. We embrace a shadow and love a dream.”
“We want to be loved; failing that, admired; failing that, feared; failing that, hated and despised. At all costs we want to stir up some sort of feeling in others. Our soul abhors a vacuum. At all costs it longs for contact.”
“Nothing so reduces and drags down a human being as the consciousness of not being loved.”

Not necessarily a villain but A Death in the Family/ Under the Red Hood would be amazing. As a Jason Todd fan though lol

Johnathan Crane-Charlie Heaton
Shows the abusive childhood of Johnathan, as he grew up on a farm with his two parents.

Couldn't agree more.. that sorta thing is oversaturated nowadays. This and the Dark Knight, I believe, have the perfect tones.
it's not necessarily the seriousness it's the character building.... give us proper characters likeable or hate-able just authentic. none of this bland just a name to get ppl to sit through a 5 min greyscale scene of buildings falling down with loud noises.
the mcu has a lot of more humorous tone movies but they work because the audience gets invested in the characters, the scripts are good and the universe works overall.

We still want those type of movies because not all movies needs to be serious but character development definitely.

i would be so onboard with that IF they made him out to be Hassan I Sabbah as i feel that man may have been partly an inspiration for Ras.

Just watched joker Folie Á Deux and had to come back here to calm my nerves
Funny thing is, i want he snapped so bad. . it just, i can relate to the man. All that pain..
When he was talking about all the changes that leaves you like “how did we get here” it made me sad because that’s how we felt with the Anakin into Darth Vader change except we meant it in a completely different way.
That is exactly what i thought at that instant. We always needed this story for Anakin.....his change was a switch flip in the film and it cheapened what we know was a much deeper "Joker" like journey.
ep 1 shouldve started off with Anakin as a padawan. And couldve slowly shown his descent to the dark side throughout the whole trilogy. Oh well......
ablurt_55 yeah definitely. Episode 2 should’ve concluded with him being more conflicted. Episode 3 he’s the main villain
