  • In this video we test the traction control (from 9-1) on the Husqvarna Norden 901 in the optional Explorer riding mode.
    Even since KTM came up with the dialable traction control in Rally Mode on the KTM 890 Adventure R, I've wanted to know how well it works and whether there is a noticable difference between each of the 9 settings.

    I own a Norden and I am thinking about getting the explorer mode and this was definitely awesome to see! Thanks man!

      Hi Dennis, thanks for the comment. It is a great bike, right? I think it is actually good to ride without the Explorer mode first. Then if you add it on later, it will feel like you've bought a new bike. Let me know what you think if you get it.

      How are you liking it?
      Was it worth it vs just shutting off traction control in Offroad Mode?

      @@marcochavane3124I think so. I can change modes on the fly. I couldn’t do that on my 2015 BMW R1200 GSA. If I’m running along on slippery gravel, I’ll keep it on 6 or 8. When I come to a steep uphill, I’ll use 2 -4. I can change as I’m approaching the hill. I don’t use Rally (throttle ) much. Off-road mode uses less horsepower, but I don’t need super quick throttle response when I’m doing tricky technical stuff. I like to use Mode 4 when off-road throttle a lot. I sometimes use Rally mode on the streets.

      @@GreaseAndGravel I have the Norden but not the explorer pack but your video sure shows how you can dial in the precise amount of traction control that you prefer.

    • @GreaseAndGravel
      @GreaseAndGravel  Год назад

      @@bigmikes901adventures I am sure you should be able to get more or less slide from the rear wheel in Offroad mode too if you are more or less aggressive with the throttle. But that will take some time I guess.

      Thanks for watching! That is a great idea. I will see if I can fit another test in. All I can say is that the explorer mode makes a huge difference compared to offroad mode. Feels like a different bike.

    Nice job of showing how the Nordon’s TC intervenes Francois. It’s a tall bike but a man of your stature seems to fit it well, much like your old XR. I hope it’s lent to you long enough to do more content.

      Thanks, I appreciate it! Being able to lower the seat easily is a huge plus... the XR was quite tall for me. The suspension is awesome. I felt more comfortable jumping the Norden than the old XR. I've shot quite a few videos already and plan do do a few more this coming weekend.

    Hello adventure troop. Cool to see your happy face. What do you think wich is better, learn to ride proper or master the tc?

    • @GreaseAndGravel
      @GreaseAndGravel  Год назад

      Thanks for the comment and great question! I would definitely say it is better to learn to ride properly without any electronic rider support. The TC is awesome, but the laws of physics still apply and it is better if you understand exactly where the real traction is at all times.

      It should be a rider aid, not a rider crutch.
      Learn to live without it, then as you advance your skills you can reward yourself with some extra help that keeps you from feeling so fatigued.

    I'm quite sure it's a traction control. Not a slide control.
    Lower setting allows for more wheel spin.
    Setting 9 cuts the throttle quite abruptly.

    • @GreaseAndGravel
      @GreaseAndGravel  Год назад +1

      100% It is called traction control. But the less it intervenes, the more it slides and vice versa 😅 I am sure the intention was to control traction, e.g. use TC1-2 in thick, loose sand where you want the wheel to be able to spin, and 9 on slippery ice/mud. But they (inadvertently?) created a system that allows you to powerslide with less (not zero) risk of a low side.

    Why the HANS/Neck brace but no other protective gear? Seems odd.

    • @GreaseAndGravel
      @GreaseAndGravel  Год назад

      Good point, Craig. I had a jacket on while riding to the dirt track. I guess I am just so used to riding with the brace. It was too hot (35C) for a jacket and I only did slow riding. Very odd indeed
