+The Man In Red 3751 is not the only surviving Santa Fe 4-8-4, she never was. 3751 is just the only one operating. Though that will change soon when 2926 returns to steam. I recently heard that they're planning for the hydro test for the 2926 to hopefully be sometime late next month, after the cold, freezing weather is gone. All together there are nine Santa Fe 4-8-4 locomotives that still survive, including 3751. 3751 is the most known because she was the first 4-8-4 to be built for the Santa Fe and the first to be built by Baldwin Locomotive Works. 3751 is also the oldest surviving 4-8-4 out of all the 57 4-8-4's that still survive in North America.
Yeah and I also aim to buy a lionel lionchief super chief plus matching Santa Fe dome car and baggage car and lionel santa fe dome car, lionel lion chief hogwarts express train set and matching lionel hogwarts express additional coach and dementors coach and the lionel hot wheels race team express train set ,lionel hot wheels 50th anniversary auto rack, lionel orange hot wheels boxcar, lionel hot wheels 50th anniversary boxcar, lionel hot wheels race team fuel tank car and lionel hot wheels crash city cafe all off of amazon to benefit both the new mexico steam locomotive and the san bernardino railroad historical society for the great uncle of all the Santa Fe 2900 class 4-8-4 northerns number 2926 himself and his great niece Santa Fe 4-8-4 northern 3751 as you can see
I may be one of the only railfans whose interested, but I think it would be awesome to see the Orange Empire Railway Museum's old Union Pacific Mikado get restored to operational use. I know it will take quite a bit of money and time to do but it would be nice to see that locomotive run.
it just came out on DVD, along with 3751 the restoration. as part of their DVD release they're having a special offer. you can buy both videos for just 29.95, the price is for both DVD's combined. I ordered my copies of both videos over the weekend. I've been trying to get a copy of this video of my own for several years, and now I finally have.
Wright County Railfan there’s 5 of them. One in Orange Empire railway One in Barstow CA in the depot One at Illinois Railway Museum One Great Plains railway museum One at Frisco Texas with so many cool equipment So there’s 5 still around
Then: ATSF merged with Burlington Northern to become BNSF Now: BNSF rebuilt its oil-firing steam engine (Is it because No. 6 fuel oil still considered affordable in Texas at economical price so it was chosen as fuel choice rather than switching to coal or CNG?? or is it because the original 3751 burns fuel oil from birth?) Next: will BNSF buy back its passenger train service from AMTRAK and state transit authorities? will Chief rise again?
I have now had the great privilege to see that locomotive in person at the Fullerton rail fair as well as go in the cab, and see it thunder through the station.
Love the steam, but I still wish there was a few more of those FP45s left as well. Next up: I hope that someone random-overly-generous-wealthy-railfan decides to return the two derelict locomotives (ATSF 5021 & 2925) sitting south of the California State Railroad Museum back to operation; unlikely, but we can always hope :D Heck, maybe BNSF will surprise us and decide to start their own steam program.
I think this is one case in which no one will complain about the diesels. Such class, makes you wish Santa Fe was still around.
I hope 3751 will steam again one day plus I think I might buy myself a copy of this
I have this video on VHS years ago when I was a kid along with Santa Fe Employee Recognition Special on VHS.
Some day, 3751 won't be the only operating Santa Fe 4-8-4 Northern. They're working on getting one of 3751's relatives, 2926, back on the rails, too.

+theUP844 I know there are other Santa Fe 4-8-4's around. But I meant 3751 was the only one still operating.

Goggles Tigerkhan yes
Wonder what happened to that 5 chime whistle that was on 3751 in the early 90’s?
Love the steam, but I still wish there was a few more of those FP45s left as well.

Me too especially madame queen 5000
I always wondered how the crew in the helpers matched the speed with the steam loco, starting up & slowing down. Radio talk I'm guessing.
What about Santa Fe’s Mojave Mainline - The Needles Subdivision?
@AlcoholicSemenStain They are. Look up ATSF 2926
When Is Santa Fe 3751 Coming To See Milwaukee Road 261
So knows
this is from extreme steam
Sundi Crowe No. It's not. In Extreme Steam, they went to Chicago. Not Bakersfield. They also had 3 diesels behind it rather than 2.
Restore a 2900 northern. Thats what the people want....
