When the storm started, my father was taking me to summer school. When I came back home, I learned a lot more about the power outage such as the destruction of Wilmette's oldest tree.
Storm kinda woke me up, and I could hear it, but I never looked to see how bad it was. Our power went out, and I had to get ready for work in the dark. I remember hearing fire engine sirens outside, and I knew it was probably pretty bad outside. Getting to work was a BIZATCH.
I woke up at like 10 am that day, and walk in my living room, and my brothers are like flipping out looking at the window and going outside. I go outside, look and i see this HUGE tree, ripped out, including roots, just smashed into a power line, and a house. We were out of power all this week, but its back on now, thank god.
I saw the street sign that said, Maynard. I lived on Meade Ave.between Grand and Fullerton by Riis Park, for many years. Been in Cali for many years as well. We get a storm like this maybe every ten to fifteen years.
I woke up at 8am that day to my cat meowing with a sock in her mouth, heard the warning on my tv that was still on, and fell back asleep. Little did I know what was going on right outside my window. Didn't even phase me. Most of my friends are still without power, while I was a fortunate one.
Nice video, AeroStorm911! I liked the end of the video, where you showed all the damage that the storm caused! I especially liked the part, where the truck had overturned and flattened some of the fence! LOL :D
I remember this storm I live in the far North Western suburbs in Cary, And the winds here were packin' 80 MPH and I had a huge branch fly over the house. Out of power for four days
Your lucky where I live(Wonder Lake) I'm surrounded by huge trees. Nearly every street was blocked off by trees. Tree's split peoples houses in half it was insane. We had power lines lying in the roads and yards for 4 days. I didn't have power until this morning at 5 this morning. 4 days of shitting in candle light and bathing out of a bucket. Fun times but I guess it could be worse,
@PineGroveBird - a 75mph wind gust was measured at midway airport [only 3 blocks from where this video was taken] minimum wind speed for a cat 1 hurricane is 72mph so I could see why they would say that...
I was in Antioch this day. Wasnt able to get video, but we had winds of over 75 mph and close to 80. Lost power and had to check radar map from my phone. I was looking for a hook echo. Thankfully there wasnt one. If there was We'd be in the basement! Gurnee also got hit hard as well.
Yeah I woke up that morning around 8:00 looking outside my window, damn was it crazy. The wind knocked down a huge brance off of our oak in the backyard and landed in the fence into our neighbors yard. Good thing it didn't hit our porch.
I was on my way to help rebuild our fire damaged house when the storm struck i had a truck full of building materials from menards i tied it all down thankfully so none got away
what u filmed was nothing compaired to the north. i live on rt 59 in lake villa just befor antioch and the raod was shut off because it took down 9 different trees, snapped cables, and even damaged my grandmas house with 2 huge pines.
@triton115 - Unfortunately no I was out west returning from a storm chase in Nebraska, the storm was gorgeous on the backside though. RUclips wont let me post links in comments but if you go to the web adress in the video you can see the chase log from the day.
Keep posting videos! Every time I go out of town a major storm happens and I miss it! It's freaky but it happens every time! In fact, get your camera ready for a storm that may happen any time between this wednesday and next monday; let's see if it happens! XD
@debsc420able - youtube wont let me paste the link in the comment but if you google the storm prediction center it will take you to the site and you will find a link on the left side that says 'about derechos' with plenty of good info.
This was a pretty good deluge you had here! Good thing there were no kids in the pool! LOL! Just kidding! Anyway, I would have liked to have seen this one in person! A good violent summer thunderstorm!
