I learned by volanteering at a hospital an useing my German on patients who was German I practice phrases an just speaking with them an speaking German to them as I was getting them ready to be discharged to go home me self learned German
Hi Terri! Nice tips and at least concerning staying capable of using English I follow some of them. Obviously I watch English RUclips Videos, I also like watching movies and TV shows in English and reading books in English. Just restarted Harry Potter again. Besides children's books comics might also be good, because the language isn't too complicated. I thought about learning Chinese but work doesn't leave me enough time at the moment. And reading Chinese is veeeeeeeery difficult ;)
Hi BassaSelim! I'm glad you liked them! 😍 Comics - that's a good tip for sure! I looove Harry Potter, too haha I have a friend who just stopped learning Chinese after two years because it just became to frustrating for her! Haha I wish you all the best though!!
to me the best way is read, read and read and then go throught the streets and talk to verify! that's my method and it hardly works. good video as usual
if one of your languages is german, try dict.leo.org. it's by far the best dictionary you can find. it's just handy to alt-tab during a chat and it also gives hints to translations that make no sense at all. for example : stiefel den wachtmeister - boot the PC its also very helpfull with words that exist in one language only like serendipity and slang like "woll, gelle and nech" oh and in case the tv shows and movies are to easy for you - the reclam shakespeare series helped me a lot! :o) the reclam books are pretty cheap( 5 euros or so each ) so even if you make notices right in the book, it will not hurt your wallet. (LOL some of my books even got drenched in guinness and snake bite)
Hahahahahaha this made my day! I personally really like Zum Teufel mit der Wahrheit because I think Bettina Zimmerman's cool, Kokowääh isn't necessarily a favourite of mine but the dialogue and story is fairly simple to follow along and Fack ju Göhte is also not a fave but did really well here (in terms of ratings and at the box office) so that may be good for those interested in, well, German pop culture as it's for teens and therefore easy to follow and Willkommen bei den Hartmanns just came out so it's very aktuell and deals with some current issues here... so yeah, that's why. But FOLGEMILCH if you have any suggestions, please list them!! ;)
for anybody who wants to learn german and simultaneously laugh about the "culture", i would recommend LORIOT of course - Ödipussy Pappa ante Portas and all of his sketches (a lot of them are on RUclips anyway). For people interested in Munich culture, i would recommend Pumuckl and Monaco Franze And as a general rule, avoid anything even remotely attached to Til Schweiger (or any of his showbiz buddies)
Folgemilch21 Not that Loriot isn't great, but he might be a bit too hard for a beginner. And he is not really modern pop culture. Neither is Heinz Erhardt who was very good at playing with words. It's a bit like with the books. Easy movies are good especially if you are a beginner. Children's movies and TV shows are generally easier to follow so these might be an idea. As strange as it sounds - shows like Löwenzahn (if that is still on) or Sesamstraße might be a good idea. Or some animated shows.
BassaSelim the fact that Loriot isn't "modern pop culture" is exactly the reason why i would recommend him. If you want to learn proper german, dont copy the cringy, artificial and Denglisch-infused dialogue of a Til Schweiger movie or something like that.
Folgemilch21 But you should also consider the person who wants to learn. A young girl may not want to talk like a 60 year old man ;) And I cannot evaluate the dialogue of a Til Schweiger movie. And don't watch them. The only time I had a Til Schweiger Blu Ray was when it was forced on me with the PS3. Lucky me could sell it to a colleague who gave it to his mother as a gift. I don't know how she liked it though ;)
Yasssss gurl! Thank you so much for this video! ❤️️
Haha you're most welcome girlie, thanks for the suggestion!!! I hope you find some of these useful! 😘
yay!! i hope to learn as much as possible ASAP
I'm positive you will :D

I'd recommend the orange Reclams with English and German texts. I hope they are still orange ^^
