I remember sneaking Down to watch as My parents watched years ago. then I watched him when I was older. I really wish that the hosts now a days could be funny and do politics with out taking sides. this stuff is so classic!
Two years later, Mr. Blackwell would sue Carson over this Carson joke in the monologue: “Mr. Blackwell said of Mother Teresa: ‘Miss Nerdy Nun is a fashion no-no‘” The judge dismissed the lawsuit and ruled it ‘out of fashion!’ (True story except for the last bit!)
I really like their shows from Burbank. Studio 1 just feels like it has more breathing room which indeed they had. Studio 6B at 30 Rock in New York was around 3,600 Sq Ft, whereas their new Burbank Studio 1 was over 10,500 Sq Ft, so much more room, fresh feel.
Some history here. This was only the second show after the Tonight Show's move from NYC to Burbank. Also, Carson references the Apollo missions. Apollo 17 would follow later that year, and to this day, it remains the last time humans have travelled beyond low Earth orbit.
Definitely a very fun show. I was 6 years old and most likely put to bed by Mom and Dad . Mom would bust up laughing loudly and I would sneak out and peek downstairs and usually get caught. 😁
The one and only King of Late Night!! Miss this show so much.

You can practically smell whatever booze that Ed was pickling himself with by the truckload in those days.
