Well, I had similar thought when I heard this years ago. Btw, what d'ya think about the new MA album? I think it's far overrated because of people who didn't like Illud Divinum Insanus, and who finally got more "underground" death metal sound (in my opinion bullshit). For me the riffs are really boring (maybe even worse than on hated "Illud Divinum...") and some plastic sound in distortion, pretty annoying. Sadly Heretic was last good album :/

Deathgaze was always questionable when it comes to their older stuff mostly visual kei bands have their very own style of playing music but it seems these guys were taking inspiration elsewhere more likely just as stated from above "death metal" genre and many others and thats what makes this so enjoyable
