You know what is a big pet peeve of mine? So many RUclips videos stress the fact that you have to " match the hatch". Then they proceed to catch fish with pink and bright green lures!😂 I haven't seen too many "natural" bright pink and bright green fish! What's your opinion?
Well there is alot of truth to “matching the hatch” but that is more practical for fly fishermen. Conventional fishermen like myself are trying to imitate minnows and other small creatures living in the water. The tough part is all bodies of water are different. Some are murky, some clear, and all have different color tints to the water. Then you need to consider at what depth of water the fish are feeding at as perception of color changes at the depth of water. So with all those factors a simple minnow like a shad looks completely different at all these lakes and at different depths color wise. Not to mention time of day and weather conditions that affect underwater lighting. That is where all these different bright colors come into play. A bright pink artificial minnows doesn’t look natural to us at all but at a certain lake, at a certain depth, and during the right time of day and weather conditions, it may look completely natural to the trout. If all that makes sense 🤘
@@SeaSpankerOutdoors I appreciate your insight man. They should say all of that on their videos but of course they don't. It sounds contradictory. Thanks again!!!
Great info as always. I commented a while back on one of your other videos…the one about how to throw mini jigs I think…but your extremely clear method of explanation followed by practical application have changed the way I fish forever. I believe that allot of the techniques left unexplained and/or justified, land somewhere in the realm of “bro science”…and you have taken the mystery out it all with your videos. So keep em rolling brother! Thank you again! Tight lines!
This recent batch of Jess ranch lake stockers has been the most finicky so far in the season. Mojave narrows was a lil tough this past week too. Compared to the last couple months. Maybe the low pressure system in socal recently
Yeah that definitely can play a part in the bite. Its always tough in December as the weather goes hot and cold so much the trout get all outta whack. The next months should be colder and the bite will get more solid
Yeah it’s definitely disappointing but im always hopeful they will turn it around or someone that cares will take that place over and get it all squared away 🤘
Yeah that Jess Ranch thing really bugs me. I know they are way cheaper than the other hatcheries but I would imagine those lakes are seeing a decline in revenue at the gate. Hopefully they figure it out
I live 5 minutes away from Prado Park. I'm going fishing there for the first time tomorrow. Thank you for this info. You have earned yourself a new sub. Thank you again!

Hey Rob, it must be nice to be retired😂. I ran into you a few seasons ago at Prado. It was cool just chatting with you. I was beginning to wonder if you were ever going back to Prado Lake. Thanks for posting your fishing videos (tips and techniques).
Yeah being retired ain’t bad, I highly recommend it haha. Its definitely good to be back at Prado. Even though the fish aren’t as nice as Id like i still love the lake. Hope to run into you again out there 🤘

Do you know anything about fishing with shorter rods? I don’t mind adding some 7’s to the batch but I run a 5’6” rod is that an issue with this set up?
I have a few shorter rods but i use them usually for bait fishing from a boat or kayak. You certainly can work a dropshot with a shorter rod but its not optimal. The longer rod will give you alot better control over the dropshot rig.
Great video Rob always enjoy watching your videos. Hey I got a question how do you tie off your RHA spoons do you use a ring a clip or just tie on straight?
@@SeaSpankerOutdoors thanks a lot Rob for the great information recently purchased some RHA spoons and wanted to use it properly. You don’t mind sharing the info where to purchase those dual lock snaps. chunky bro. Thanks
I believe the micros are 1” and the mini spartans are 1.5”. Im not sure what hes doin with the micros at the moment but i know hes been selling alot of the mini Spartans and making alot of those so he may not have had time to make more micros. Im sure hell do a run on the micros in the future

Its cove 1 right next to the main gate where you drive in. Its a great cove for trout. The boat dock area has always been real hit and miss in my experience. If you go to the point south/east of the boat dock, thats a great spot as well as that cove over there
@@SeaSpankerOutdoors went back this morning by the RC boat area and slammed 4 in an hour ! Kind of figured out after I saw the road in the background of the video thanks brotha !
It really depends on how you like to catch fish and what works for you. That said ever since I started fishing mini jigs and/or dropshot I catch more and bigger fish. However, i fish moving baits alot harder and longer than I do bait and wait so the argument can be made that I catch more and bigger fish because Im concentrating on one style more than the other.
Well, depends on what your after in a fishing day. SARL definitely hands down has better fish and a chance at a real trophy but its crowded and the fishing can be tough there. Prado is alot more scenic and peaceful in parts. You can hike and get away from a crowd there but they are stocking with Jess Ranch. I did end up catching a few 5-7lb Jess Ranch fish last season so there are a couple good ones in the mix but the average fish are tiny 😢. I grew up fishing SARL and Prado so its hard for me to pick one. Do I want to fish at a concert or in the country and it just comes down to which place appeals to me on any given day if that makes sense
@@SeaSpankerOutdoors definitely understand this response I too wish SARL was less crowded but since GVL isn’t open and I don’t know any other spots I tend to be one of those people waiting in line very very early Saturdays at SARL just to get a good spot🤙
