Finally Hollywood listened and made a tense mid century ping pong thriller
Forrest Gump
I am aware that you are making a joke, but as a table tennis Player, Filmmaker and movie lover, this is unironicly what i always wanted to see. I am sure that the Subject matter is not super apealing to most people, it truely feels like this movie was only made for me personally.
My bucket list is complete; as my heart yearned for a stand alone movie about table tennis just with that two minute cut from Forrest Gump. 32 years of waiting, I can finally let go and be at peace now. 😉😂
Finally another Jewish power fantasy
@focus5767what’s your letterboxd
One of my biggest hobbies is watching hundreds of trailers to A24 films with absolutely incredible premises, making a mental note to see them in theaters, and then never ever doing so.
& thats when i thank hbo max for coming to the rescue ❤

Yeah I’ve never seen this comment before at all
What a fan
Shout out to Timmy for finding the only sport where could conceivably play a pro athlete
lol
Long distance running, diving, and certain equestrian sports also come to mind.
stolen comment from le reddit 😢
Lmaoooo bro did not have to violate timmy like that 😂😂
@Paroex diving is not exactly a sport. Sure there are some record stuff but its not in the world events or olympics
Marty was my first coach, when I was 16. He shared each chapter with my father and me of his autobiography, 'The Money Player', as it was written. I eventually became a National Disabled Champion and competed in the Seoul and Barcelona Paralympics. He had a big influence on my life. Norman Haase
This is actually so cool
Man stfu. Marty is a fake character
bruh Marty isn’t real
@OmegaSniper57 yes he is...
@OmegaSniper57marty reisman. different last name
TYLER OKONMA, such a crazy thing to see.
i was like "that's not his name"
Ngl, thought that was one of the ping pong actors
He must go back to Nigeria - OH
He’s THAT GUY!
@Rydstein He's just trying to get his paper baby...
I had no idea this was a ping pong movie and that reveal left me speechless, the shot of Timothée Chalamet jumping in the air with a ping pong paddle while forever young plays in the background might be the funniest thing i've ever seen
Funniest thing you’ve ever seen? Really? lol
I died laughing when I realized it was ping pong, idk why is the trailer so dramatic lol
what was funny about it? Funny how? Like it amused you, it fucked amused you?
@Tauregyeah it’s ridiculous 😂
@Taureg why you so fucking pressed because someone found something funny?
The acting range of Kevin O'Leary to play a rich asshole. Impressive
😂😂😂😂👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
“Rich asshole” doesn’t suffice. He’s a lifelong scammer who backs fascists.
yeah and the trump supporting prick can't even play that part well. can already tell tyler, the creator will be a better performer than him.
😂😂😂
Ridiculous they added that shameful taint gimme a break.
Proof that a talented filmmaker can make a good movie about literally anything.
a good trailer, is that what you meant?
zero reason to think the movie is good
@johnadamson2760it's by Josh safdie
@johnadamson2760 oh you just know this is gonna be a banger cmon now son
ok but the movie isnt even out yet dude
Feels so good to see "Tyler Okonma" on the cast list, man 😭. We just need the director's credit now
It was a matter of time. Incredibly excited! Especially since it's a Safdie film
This movie is definitely going to bomb
@joyg95⌨️🐒🗿
@joyg95ok first off why and what’s the number you think it’s considered a bomb?
Who????
sometimes I think these movies only exist as trailers
right i feel like a24's sole purpose is to push out quirky movie trailers and the actual movies are an afterthought.
@itssamber01 a lot of neon releases too
@itssamber01you don’t like Josh Safdie?
yeah this looks like some ass fr would much rather watch ping pong the animation actually
@itssamber01 🌟SYNOPSIS:
This film is loosely inspired by the life of Marty Reisman, a real-life ping pong hustler and champion. It's set in 1950s New York City and follows Marty Mauser's journey as he navigates the underground world of professional table tennis, pursuing greatness in a sport often overlooked.
Seeing Kevin O'Leary of all people in a movie is insane 😂
I spit at my screen
Why because he’s not a communist stooge and successful? Two things your not.
also a complete joke of a casting.
Mr.Wonderqunt
It’s going to be a no for me.
It was the distinguished honor of my life to be hired for the Marty Supreme Ping Pong Parlor Scene filmed in Manhattan alongside Timothée Chalamet.
Even more surreal… I got to use the original hard bat racket gifted to me by Marty Reisman himself the very paddle he used to hustle challengers, perform his famous cigarette trick, and leave his mark on New York’s table tennis history. As someone who has played this sport for over 50 years, and was inspired by Marty since the early 1960s, this was more than just a film role. It was a once-in-a-lifetime moment where my personal history, Marty’s legacy, and cinema came together on set. Marty’s influence even inspired me to create my own invention the Smart Innovative Racquet a modern extension of his showmanship that brings fitness, technology, and style into table tennis today.What a memorable life experience. Honored to have helped keep Marty’s spirit alive through this film.
Hi! Although he was a bit younger than Marty my dad played professionally was national champion at 17, and was part of the team that went to the North Korea. He knew Marty pretty well and played with him several times. He read your comment and it put a huge smile on his face to know there are others who have major passion and love for the sport. ❤❤❤❤❤
Please stop talking
This TRIVIA! Thanks for sharing your contribution and history about this! XO
What an amazing piece of history! Thank you for sharing!
@Agentfulcrum4349 Please stop being an a-hole 😀
0:11 "You know. I'm something of a performer too." - Willem Dafoe
I was gonna say Tim was second choice for this role after Dafoe.
Dead meme
@da96103🙄🤦🏻♂️
@todayiamhere0L
@todayiamhere0Old but gold.
-Kevin is in this movie and for that reason I'm out -Barbara
Kevin is pretty bad though
Honestly
Kevin sucks so hard. If this didn’t look really good I’d miss it just for him
If they needed an old, white, right-wing POS they might as well have just hired Jon Voight
How the hell did Kevin O'Leary weasel his way into an A24 movie?
0:47 Kevin O'Leary jumpscare
I suppose Tom Green and Andy Dick were too busy....
What. In. Holy. Hell?
@beepster991 Tom Green is living his best life on his farm
If this movie came out in the 90s that would’ve been Donald Trump
100% lost interest in 3...2..1...
This might be the one Chalamet finally wins for, looks like the perfect blend of his comic and dramatic talents.
YES, thought of that! This time, THE WIN! XO
Not when going against Daniel Day-Lewis he won’t 😂
@im_sofa_king_we_tall_did love it. Yep
Yes
nah
The Safdie 1v1 this year is boutta go crazy
It's interesting that both are doing sport dramas
It's amazing how the Safdie brothers work separately to prepare the best performances from both The Rock and Timothee Chalamet.
@diegoperleche5177I saw a test screening of The Smashing Machine. The Rock still plays the Rock so I wouldn’t get your hopes up.
@CH-nw2kvlies
@CH-nw2kv to see what the critics will say on the film festival circuits (especially at the Venice Film Festival).
"And what do you plan to do if this whole dream of yours doesn't work out?"
"That doesn't even enter my consciousness."
And the look on Timothée's face while it was delivered, pure gold!
I bet he says the same thing about his career irl
@p.1019 Bet he did! I'm gonna be honest, in him, I really can see a star in the making, someone who has not achieved his peak yet and someone who's going down as one of the best actors in history!
@adityakangude1692 fr this movie will be a masterpiece
Our long ping pong movie drought since Forrest Gump is finally over.
Balls of Fury??
Go watch Balls of Fury.
@smokybrittle Yep, that is the last one I remember.
@smokybrittleGod Tier
So balls of fury doesn’t exist
This will be a crowd pleaser that will be a big Awards contender. Give Timothee Chalamet his Oscar!
Seeing Kevin O' Leary and Tyler, the Creator in a film with Timmy is just insane I must say. But this looks fantastic!
it sure does
He's the 1 person (O'Leary) that I really could do without in this movie. That man is slimy.
@SFrancoishA true slime ball irl, I think he'll play a slimy manager just great! 😂
Kevin O' Leary is a vile excuse for a human being. This man once said that 3.5 billion people living in poverty was fantastic news.
Yeah Kevin O Leary is a terrible person.
1:14 Tyler the Creator?!
yes
MAJOR MOVES
Gotta see it now🥰🥰🥰
Acting debut
No man, thats Tyler Okonma
I remember the first time I watched Boogie Nights and I was left with the impression you can make a good movie about almost anything if your a good enough filmmaker. It seems like Josh Safdie is keeping that philosophy alive and I'm here for it.
Boogie Nights is not that good
@todayiamhere0 I think it's great. Look at us, having different opinions that no one else cares about ;)
@todayiamhere0 That's a hot take.
He's right, the sex is what get people. Like can watch dozens of foreign films and realize that it's not that impressive.
@thomasinawhite6045 If you think Boogie Nights is all about sex then you deeply misunderstand the film. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea but it is pretty much objectively a well made film. In the 90s when it came out, many film critics did not like it but almost no one said it was a bad film.
I’m confident that at some point during this production, Tyler the Creator must have delivered some devastating roasts to Kevin O’Leary
More likely that they laughed about poor people while dining on beluga caviar together.
@streethawk2948they’re all in the same club.
Kevin O'leary playing a villain rich guy in the ping ping mafia and apparently being hired by josh safdie because he wanted him to play himself and play an 'asshole' actually checks out lol.
Tyler and Timothée in a movie together !!!!!!! 2018 me would be absolutely freaking out… the OKRA mention alone when it first dropped was everything.
That line aged like fine wine fr 🍷
no fr like my favorite artist of 5 years and actor in the same movie is like a dream come true omg
🎶 Tell Tim Chalamet to come get at me! 🎶
@glamdawlingSKIN GLOWIN', CLEAR ACNE, DIAMONDS SEE THROUGH SO HOLOGRAPHIC, RED ONES LOOK LIKE AIDAN MACKEY, SPENT DINERO LIKE TAXI DRIVER
The Oscar race just began! Picture, Director, Actor, Supporting Actress, Screenplay, Casting, Film Editing, Cinematography, Production Design, Costumes.
0:39 “My whole life’s falling apart but imma figure it out”
Story of my life
WORD
Yall get your mind blown by the most simple shit now, the bar is so low nowadays
@Hotdogsandketchupno one said their mind was blown dumbass. They’re just relating to that quote.
@Hotdogsandketchupit’s the line delivery man, and how it fits in the context of the trailer, and how his co-star reacts. there’s so much more to a line and how it’s written. it’s not the best but it’s a cool line.
What a day, came 4th in my first ever ping pong tournament and now seeing Timmy, Gwyneth and Tyler in a ping pong movie from one of my favourite directors gives me joy. I won’t forget this day
Good for you. Well done.
Good times for table tennis. Harimoto beat Wang chuqin in Japan, TTD guys collaborating with Zhang jike and now this
what other Josh Safdie movies have you seen? Not safdie brothers, Just Josh, since hes your favourite
A ping pong tournament sounds so fun.
@rustyshacklefordposterthat’s what I meant tho from the Safdie brothers cuz I believe this is his first since they spilt up
The fact that Tyler is becoming a actor now is genuinely beautiful 🥲
He still is gonna make music
Can't say the same about O'Leary
Forever Young has no business sounding this epic.
This is going to be a classic
Tf are you doing here bro🥀
Yes it will!!!
hey jack
@fillyjbits okay❤
Can you be my classic 🥺👉👈
Why is no one mentioning The Nanny Named Fran!! Great cast
Because she's a raging Zionist
Great cast in a movie ruined by the casting of one person. You know who it is. Read the comments.
Because while everyone loves ice cream, but everyone HATES being force fed ice cream that has shit mixed in it.
@garlicbutter1906at worst he's an asshole sure, but so are a lot actors and yea he's typically not an actor but since this is the directors first solo outing he gets a pass
I've never been so interested in a movie that has nothing to do with anything I'm interested in. Timothee Chalamet already had me intrigued, but y'all had me at "Forever Young" and had me even more by including Fran Drescher
Forever young my favourite song
Odessa A’zion in an A24 movie just makes so much sense
it’s about time!
For some reason, ping-pong came very natural to me, so I started playing it all the time. I played ping-pong even when I didn't have anyone to play ping-pong with. The hospital's people said it made me look like a duck in water, whatever that means. Even Lieutenant Dan would come and watch me play. I played ping-pong so much, I even played it in my sleep.
Something tells me you lived the most incredible life of any American that ever lived
You are that guy I saw on TV in the White House who told President Lyndon B. Johnson that you need to p ee. 😄
I fear there are people alive who don’t know what this references, and that makes me sad
Something tells me that you run a lot and have a best friend called bubba.
Timothee Chalamet is an actor I adore and mainly for this reason I will watch this film, which seems very very interesting. 👍
I think we are in an era in which Hollywood finally listened to our complaints that we want more quality than quantity… not only this movie is an example but many others that are been made 🙌 sure it’s a biopic but looking at the recent biopics, they have not disappointed.
How is this a teaser? This is how a trailer should be cut. It perfectly balances enough context with intrigue
*Every year this man drops a banger on December and leaves us speechless I'm seated*
Me, too! XO
🎉@MariaMercedes-u4l
Fun fact. Canadian shark tank guy Kevin o leary who appears in the trailer killed someone drunk boating then had his wife take the wrap. Easy to look up.
Don't really care just want to see the film regardless.
@frankTJmakayThat’s really sad.
I mean I dislike O'Leary as much as the next person, but didn't the court rule that the other boat literally had its lights off on a pitch black lake because they were stargazing and that Linda, who showed no signs of intoxication was indeed the driver *because* Kevin was drunk? Or do we really think that he was able to buy out the court and manipulate all the evidence on a double manslaughter case?
@frankTJmakay then your evil and everything wrong with your life and the world around you.
I love this kind of obscure trivia.
Like did you know Venus Williams literally killed a guy? Look it up.
Well I’ll be damned. Who knew a movie about ping-pong could be this interesting and entertaining looking
"It's the Marty Supreme Ball, not the Marty Normal Ball." Classic.
0:56 Forever Young in a Timothée Chalamet film is so original, it's like a common stereotype of a "Timothée Chalamet" movie, determination, then love a girl, then prove that, than break up, and feel down into sober, and live happily alone ever after
Ok
@allanallan2171ummm why do you have my profile picture sir
Dude needs to quit with the estrogen and eat a steak or two
Mmmm, for many of us, it’s hilarious because that song is so identifiable to Napoleon Dynamite.
By Bob Dylan
日本で撮影してくれてありがとう❤
日本から🇯🇵愛してる
I don’t care what anyone says Tim is one of the best actors of his generation and will go down as one of the greats.
There isn’t a lot competition among his contemporaries let’s be honest.
who is tim ?
@CrudeBeach there actually is plenty
He is just happened to be in great scripts nothing great about him he is not jack Nicholson neither nic cage
Precisely! XO
Bro didn't get the Challengers role so he went for the next best thing
No
He definitely passed on that one 😂
That movie was terrible.
@Jocelyn_ValentineWait? Why
Timmy knows when he chose roles if it works for him or not. Challengers was awful and not a sport (tennis ) movie. It was between to men love interest and one woman
I believe Timothée would get his third Academy Award nomination for his leading role in this film. I also believe he would win his first Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for this film. But I could be mistaken.
Is that John Catsimatidis at 1:45 or am I dreaming?
It is!! He tweeted about it
Holy crap it is. That’s amazing
Dream big
It’s him alright!
1:53 i thought it is Hans Zimmer.
1:30 “What do you plan to do if this whole dream of yours doesn’t work out?”
“That doesn’t even enter my consciousness”
TEARS BRO ACTUAL TEARS ❤
I cannot wait for Timothée Chalamet to rock my Christmas once again.
Willy Wonka has returned!
Seems like he's got that December 25 release date locked
Yeah... i feel like most of timothee movies come out during the end of the year, or the earlier times of the year.
Are you not Chalameted-out yet? I sure am.
Sir, you sound brainwashed by marketing executives.
Who ever cut this trailer needs a raise!!
Loser!
I’m sorry you are so easily misled. . .
you know i’m something of a performer, inventor, …and chocolate maker too
Cringe
@LarsWalker-xo2jncan’t help my brain recognising parallels 💔💔
Forever young 💕
Kevin O’Leary jump-scare got me
¿Three time academy award nominee Timothee Chalamet?
Four thimes academy award nominee Timothee Chalamet
Oh my godddd just that single shot of Tyler yelling at timothee broooo his performance is gonna be INSANEE
A24 never misses! This already looks like a surreal, mind bending masterpiece. Can't wait!
mind bending lmaoo !!
grow up kiddo
Award Expert is predicting nominations for Picture, Director, Actor, Supporting Actress, Casting, Original Screenplay, Film Editing, Cinematography. The odds favor Timothee Chalamet to win Best Actor.
The dramatic music timed with the ping pong slams was so funny. This trailer is wonderfully serious and silly.
Lol, people will fkn complain about anything...dont make this sequel...make that sequel...make something new....ya know, theres only so much out there you can make a movie about that people will pay to go see...shit(scripts&minds) dry up once in a while....this movie looks interesting....people bagging on A24....theyve had some good movies...dont sit there and tell me Uncut Gems isnt a good movie...or The Whale...shoot, theres a bunch of a24 films i like and are good....
finally a teaser/trailer that doesn't give away much, it's so rare nowadays
Only A24 can make a teaser that tells me absolutely nothing… and still make me want to buy a ticket.
I can't be the only one who was waiting all morning for this
My most anticipated film of the year! Let´s go!
Make sure you grab a popcorn and enjoy
Because you're in for a show 😊😊
Hope whoever sees it tonight enjoys it
Reactions from NYFF are fantastic.
A24 just can’t miss
I've just tried typing out the premise of what I've just seen three times now and I've had to delete it every time because it sounds like I'm absolutely taking the piss.
And you should be lol
Fran Drescher!!! Nice to see her once again! ❤️
Marty Supreme sounds like a pizza order, but judging by the trailer, it’s more like a Michelin-star performance.
you cooked with this sentence🤌🏼
For me, it was Taco Bell.
Thanks Chat
Timothee Chalamet deserves an Oscar. He was robbed for Call Me By Your Name; A Complete Unknown.
He’s not that good. Certainly not good enough to win
@friendlypup5650why isn’t he
Timothee Chalamet is a great actor.
He is young..I believe he will become better and better.
To have 2 Oscar Nominations at his age for best actor in a leading role is incredible..and I believe he will be nominated for this movie too.
FYI...an oscar nomination is more prestigious than a Golden Globe win.
So being nominated for an oscar is not the same than being nominated in any other award.
@friendlypup5650 I’m not a big fan of him and this is the first performance of his that I’ve felt might have some juice behind it based solely on this trailer
Also robbed for Beautiful Boy.
to watch Tom and Timothee’s filmography unfold in from of our eye, different and just interesting trajectories
This looks like a lot of fun. Crazy how each Safdie brother is doing a separate A24 sports movie releasing at the same time.
I have to watch this!! Timothy chalamet is growing as an actor! He is definitely going to win an Oscar soon!!!! I said it first 😊
I ve had this on repeat all day
Man, Chalamet is one of the greats. So evident even as young as he is.
reminds me of an young DiCaprio
TRUE that! XO
One of the greats... look he is good, but come on now. One of the GREATS? You DO realize who the greats are yes? If he is one of the greats, you are opening the door for a lot of less than stellar actors to be "One of the greats" too.
@chw14556 WOW! YOU MUST BE ROBERT DE NIRO!??? HAHA! Show me you have made stellar movies yourself, acting and all, before I believe your statement eh!?
@MariaMercedes-u4l So you are qualified to judge an actor as one of the greats but someone who disagrees with you must be qualified?
as a pingpong player guy at my office, i am gonna binge this
Timmy Will win Oscar for sure
That's what they said last year so I am cautiously optimistic
I come back every couple of days to watch this
Timothee is really so talented character player😅👏✅🎉
A24 needs its own streaming service so I can binge all the movies they make at my own pace cause they put them out too fast for me to keep up
great cast, and then there’s Kevin O’Leary
Tyler the Creator heard “Supreme” and he signed up right away.
The choir/orchestral version of forever young gave me chills, I need this version on Spotify immediately
Same here 😅😅
Thought I was alone 😊
"what should this movie be about?"
Sadie: "EVERYTHING"
you've got good acting chops. You could have been Dominque Blondell in this movie.
He really sounds how a guy called ‘Marty’ would sound. What a talent.
when tyler the creator got on the screen.. ngl, I smiled 😂🙌🏽 .. Josh writing is brilliant, cant wait for the release
Ahhh, A24. Just when i thought Hollywood was dead, you came along with a movie about ping pong that scored like a summer blockbuster.
He's winning a Oscar for this
TIMMY CHALAMET IS A GREAT ONE
You just earned a new subscriber
Vintage vibes! 📺
SO GOOD!!! XO
What an Amazing cast - Timothee Chalamet, Gwenyth Paltrow, Tyler The Creator, Fran Drescher. This has Hit written all over it.
If I had a nickel for every time a Safdie released a sports-related movie with A24 distributing, I’d have two nickels, which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice.
Does Uncut Gems count as one or two nickels?
three, i'd say. The Smashing Machine
in the middle of tour, movie and tyler still managed to release dttg crazy work
I'll welcome any movie where the main character is obsessed of being the best of the best in something. Been missing this since whiplash.
Been many of these since Whiplash, though that is a special movie.
how curious, i was just thinking almost the exact opposite, that this seems yet another character that is so self-absorbed and obsessed with something they think they are important, like a grandiose or messianic personality. But i think it's because i've associated Timothée with those character traits, and i wish he played roles that are less cocky, more humble?... still though, it's subjective, and i really liked whiplash hahah
Challengers was somewhat that, I found the movie fantastic.
You’re gonna love the Epstein biopic
We had elvis a few years back, that one is incredible too
Wait.... is that the Shark Tank dude? This movie looks very good. Safdie knows what he's doing.... always.
Timothee chalamet has ANOTHER movie coming out on Christmas?? Last year it was that bob dylan movie
