    Appreciate the detailed information about Ceramic Coats; got 8 coats of Ceramic Pro on my pickup when new, 6 years later & the finish is incredible. You nailed it about every detail on product. Even my brand new truck took a lot of work to get paint perfected; a True Professional Installer is your best investment, with annual maintenance it looks Amazing. Your education to those who are perfectionists on vehicles is a great asset. Thank You !

    Before I was kind of skeptic about ceramic coatings.but Recently I applied my first ceramic coating and I was blown away by the results.
    My car is the cleanest on a parking lot. It’s definitely stays clean longer and dirt sticks to it different way. It’s not that noticeable.

    Great video Jason! I deal with dealerships detailers daily in my business and see the “Ceramic Coatings” they install. Most apply a spray sealant and charge $2k. That hurts all of us in the market when they do that. I have had a lot of people come to me and I’ve tried informing them about true coatings and they say “ I don’t want that because the dealership put that on my car and it didn’t last long and I paid a lot of money for it”. It’s unfortunate dealerships are ok with absolutely ripping people off and get away with it all the time. The new thing now is they apply the “ceramic coating” right off the truck and bill it on the backside of the ticket. They then try to sell it to you and if you refuse it looks like they took it off but it’s still there. They make out with your money either way. I could go on and on about this subject. 😂

    I found this to be pretty informative EXCEPT the part about needing to Polish your car before applying a nano coating. This is not true. Every time you polish/compound a cars paint you are taking material off in some cases that is not a good idea. For example, if you live somewhere with EXTREME weather where the temps oare 120F+ all summer and UV Index is 10+ why on earth would you want to take clear coat off your car? If the paint is somewhere where YOU are happy with it, you CAN apply a nano coating over swirl marks or light scratches IF your happy with how your car looks. Some people go WAY overboard on polishing and try to get that PERFECT finish thinking that by applying a nano coating after it will take the place of the clear you polished off. That is NOT true. So keep that in mind. Another issue I personally have with nono coatings AKA Ceramic coatings is water spotting. Yes they make the car super hydrophobic but again, if you live somewhere where extreme temps are an issue and your car gets a water sprinkler hitting it, or a monsoon passes and then the car is sitting in the sun the rest of the day? Well, your coating is going to spot so bad. As much as I like nano coatings they are not perfect, and in some cases a good polymer/polyamino silicone sealant can provide as good of protection though requiring repeated applications throughout the year. It just depends on what you like. Lastly, nano coatings also make most cars look overly glossy. Like a Toy Car look. Personally I am not a big fan of overly glossy car paint. To date, I know of no company that applies a nano coating to a Concords style event. There is a reason for that. So just do what you can, and if your ok with paying someone hundreds of dollars and in some cases thousands of dollars to have someone apply a nano coating to your car that is great, I find it ironic people spending this money only to trade in or sell their car 2-3 yrs later then spend all that money all over again on a new car. Just makes no sense to me. To use my Mother's Lexus IS300 as an example, my Parents bought this car new in 2001, my Mom still drives it everyday, she is in her mid 70's. The car is pearl white, has 300k miles on it and never has been nano coated. My Dad simply applies a polymer sealant at the change of ever season, does maintenance washes and uses a spray wax in between and after 23 yrs my Parents still get comments on how new their car looks. So no matter what you decide to do, just doing SOMETHING will keep your car looking good for many years to come Nono Coated or not.👍

      A polish isn’t just for paint correction, it ensures removal of all previous coatings or waxes. This way the coating adheres to a virgin clear coatThey also make polishes which don’t cut into your clear coat like you believe. There are different levels. And a simple spray of a water spot remover every so many washes removes any unwanted water spots. But hey ceramic coatings aren’t for everyone. Some prefer waxes and sealants. To each their own. 👍🙂

    • @eppyz
      @eppyz 18 дней назад +2

      @@josejose2100 well I will disagree with you you don't need to polish the paint to clean the paint there's other ways of decontamination that do not require a Polish. And there is a big difference between water spots and water etching water spot removal liquids that you can buy or whatever do not work for water etching once the paint is etched the only way to get it out is by polishing it which means you're removing clear coat. When you live out in super warm climates like where I live ceramic coatings kind of work against you more than for you.

    I have ceramic coating on both my cars and absolutely love them but I am a realist it’s just a coating that needs maintenance and reapplication. I wash my cars with ceramic car wash then use a spray on quasi ceramic booster once a year. Never saw or consider this as scratch resistance but I was a bit disappointed at how easily water spots formed on car. Still though having used countless countless protectants these ceramic coatings are the best I’ve used so far.

    Ceramic coatings are just to keep the car cleaner longer. That’s it. The paint will still scratch, crap will still stick to it, etc. Like Jason said, it’s the prep and maintenance after the coating has been applied is what makes the 🚘 standout and look amazing.

    • @prhawkeye
      @prhawkeye Месяц назад +1

      This is not completely true. While they do have self cleaning properties, they don’t necessarily keep the car cleaner longer. They make it easier to clean and maintain 100%, but you still need to clean it. Also, it will definitely keep contamination and chemicals from damaging the paint. They do protect the car from long term damage from UV rays. They help keep water spots from damaging the paint. Ceramic coatings absolutely have a ton of benefits, it’s not just about how clean the car is. Yes, it can scratch, deeper scratches, rock chips, any contact damage coatings will not protect you from this.

    How much should it REALLY cost? 2 step paint correction $250-$400 depending on the size. Worst case scenario for deeply swirled paint is $500. $300 to apply the coating. Some detailers are selling a lie that ceramic coatings are 100% scratch resistant, 100% contamination proof and that anything can be rinsed off while charging $2500. Customer has a bird poop on the car 5 months later and cant rinse it off or can’t rinse off dead bugs on the bumper. Once ceramic coatings can rinse off anything and be 100% scratch resistant it’ll be worth $3,000. Get a PPF.

    Question - I did my own Compound and Polish 2 years ago - and applied 1 layer of CSL and 2 x layers of Exo v4 at the time. Last year - so one year into having the coatings on the car - I added 2 more layers of Exo v5 as "toppers" to the car to maintain the life of the coating. Is this a good idea to continue to do?
    The car is garage kept, washed with a presoak of CarPro Lift then a contact wash (2 bucket method) of KochChemie GSF every 2-3 weeks. Additionally I use Carpro Hydr02 lite as a drying agent and blow it dry.
    Just trying to determine if I'm wasting money by adding "sacrificial" layers to the car every year

      If you’re consistently garaging your car, it probably is. That said, it also depends on how often you drive it-if it’s your daily and it sits outside while you’re at work, I’d guess you’re not hurting anything by refreshing the protection. You probably don’t need two layers though

    I cant temember the name but it was a comapny adverising their "coating" everywhere. Like taking a bucket full of mud/water and throwing it onto the hood of a car.
    I asked on one of their FB ads if their "coating" would protect my from shopping cart damage, like a ding or dent. The rep said it would hahaha. I asked them who a lawyer could contact for false advetising. They never responded.
    I see so many ads for sealants sold as coatings and the people falling for it. Or the "professional" detailers slamming actual coatings then pushing a spray sealant and saying rhey offer the same protection and life of a coating.

    Coatings got such a bad rep from overmarketing. A lot of businesses are still hesitant even when it comes to the ceramic spray sealants.
    I'm a firm believer that ceramic based products are superior in almost every way, but a true ceramic coating isn't for everyone and that's okay. A ceramic detailer, though, will always be an excellent choice for the average joe.
    That being said, I've never seen anything as hydrophobic as a coating. I put a 3 year (not DIY Detail) coating on my car once and the beading was INSANE. First time I took a pressure washer to it, the beads were huge. As soon as water hit the paint, it'd go straight to beading.

    If you’re worried about swirls on a black truck then you’re getting it polished and recoated every year. I have one customer who does this with me.

    The only thing mandatory to ceramic coating is decontamination paint... Polishing it is not mandatory... Right?

    • @thatpointinlife

      Only if you don't care how good the paint looks after the coating is applied, and/or don't care how well the coating performs, sure...
      Feel free to skip the polishing step. 😅

    Icon Rocklear is the biggest scam right now, it has a place but it’s not on vehicles that can be restored to their original beauty and especially not new vehicles. The two vehicles that we’ve seen it on look horrible, oil slick type pattern, all over the trim, flaking in spots and has a weird texture.
    Make a video on self leveling clear coat products!!!!

    ceramic coatings change the index of refraction of the paint/clearcoat and reduces the gloss. I know of no ceramic coating that increases gloss.

    Ceramic coating has made my car look worse! Anytime it rains or there is dew I get water beading, and the beads hold dust. When they dry out I get dust circles on the vehicle which are way more noticeable than just an even coating of dust. The car looks worse than cars sitting right beside it which have a fainter even coating of dust. So it end up washing more frequently.
