It does have some excellent architecture but the streets looked somewhat grimy. Do people still chew gum there or are the splots on the ground historic?
Can't overstate the pull this series had. I'm a 33 year old man from Germany, and for the three days it took me to watch Derry Girls I was entirely invested into what these 5 were up to. What a great series with heart. And while our mostly catholic city of 300.000 had its sectarian violence end 300 years ago, we too have city walls and gates and they're all the rage with the tourists lol
I just got back from Derry, a week ago, visited many places from the video. The video brought back so many wonderful memories. Beautiful city, amazing people and culture. So much history there, I hope I get to visit again in the future! Got a chance to see the Derry Girl mural as well 😭😭
Saw this while scrolling on Facebook while watching Derry girls. I've seen the show so many times. You girls are amazing. I hope you guys get along as good in real life as you do on the show. I had a friend growing up who was 100% a Michelle. This wee Canadian loves it. I'd watch the show until you girls are raising your own teens. Love from Canada!
i'm a really big fan of Derry girls. love all the narratives, the characters, Derry accents and all about Northern Ireland. great love from Korea. waiting for the season3!!!
"Derry Girls" fan from Canada. I wonder if the popularity of the show made for an increase in tourism in Derry. I know if I ever made it over to Ireland, I would HAVE to stop there. Looks like a lovely city.
Love the Derry Girls! Loved my visit to Derry a couple of years ago. I was camping just outside of town. I asked the young guy mowing the lawn, "The border's around here somewhere?" "Oh , just over in the shuck." Less that 15 meters. Though he wasn't around back in the day, he pointed out the British outpost, the dragon's teeth border check point up on the road. The city is great, the Free Derry Museum is a must see to anyone who's ever peacefully protested. Beautiful city, friendly people. (Even the Bogside teenagers trying on their best middle school menacing look were a treat. I'm from Detroit (during the Troubles we had the bigger body count than all of the North) but I tried to act a bit menaced. You can walk everywhere, people are friendly and any nuns you see won't be armed with rulers.
I have ancestors from N Ireland, but don't know anything about them. I watched Derry Girls because it was recommended on a website, and five minutes in I was laughing harder than I have in years, honestly. The best acting, writing etc ever! Somehow it just turned out to be the perfect combination of acting, writing, and directing. And it sure put N Ireland on the map! Love Saoirse and the whole gang!
Here's a Derry Girls fan from Chile. This show show us the beautiful Derry, and Ireland of course. Is amazing how irish culture got similaries with ours. For example the language: Irish english must be one of the hardest accent to understand, as chilean spanish.
I was in Ireland about 3 weeks ago and we took a day trip to Belfast. That day trip stuck with me well after I got back, and I had to look at every video about the troubles and Northern Ireland in general. Derry Girls was part of my research. I really connected with this show. It was great.
My sister-in-law is from New York City and everyday when she was here in Derry City with my brother she would hear the locals greet each other with "Whad aboud yee? Eventually she asked me for an explanation of what they were saying and when I told her she explained to me that she thought everyone was saying "Auto Budgie"! She thought that it was some kind of strange local reverence for Budgies.
Derry is in Northern Ireland, but I get your point. I drove to Moville, Ireland a couple of times which is about 20 miles North of Derry, but oddly, you go back into the Republic again as Co. Donegal is not in NI.
That's my home town!!😜 I did work experience in the playhouse, then moved to the Nerve Centre where I learned to play the drums, but Derry Bytes was my hangout , jeez Bytes was the place to be!😅 I miss being a teen in derry, being a growed up sucks sometimes 😟
It's very generous of the National Lottery to donate so much money to good causes, but then the amount they make from the tickets more than covers the cost of the prizes.
Love this Video, Derry Looks so cool, so refreshing from the towns here in Canada, there's no history here like you have there. On a side note, is anybody else reading the articles about when season 3 is coming to Netflix and catching the hints, there's hints all over the place that Derry Girls, is gonna get A MOVIE !!! Every article I read says something along the lines, of season 3 will be it on this platform, or in this sense of Derry Girls, or like as far as we know it, or who knows if one or all of the characters will be back in another fashion... Like Are You Kidding Me, Just Tell us There's Gonna Be A Movie okay!!! We are Dying to Know Ladies! And James. Lol common. spill the tea!
I was fortunate to visit amazing Derry this summer. In Bogside our tour guide told us how his brother was shot to death by the British army on Bloody Sunday and the British government has been covering for the murderer ever since.
I'd like a tour of Derry that went into some of the places and Bars in Derry that wouldn't make for family viewing unless the people got a wee sub for their smiles and craic.
St Columbs Cathedral, the oldest and most Historic building in the city was not even mentioned. Also St Agustines Church, and which she walked past wasn't mentioned. I WONDER WHY???? 🤔 🤔
That's amazing that they use National Lottery's money to fund projects to save heritage ❤ I'd be happy to be there as well. In Italy there's nothing similar
She took us to see the walls. Tourists love the walls!
Amanda J and they are nothing short of spectacular!

The most complete set of town walls in Europe.
@@mcbusted1985
What do you mean by complete set of town walls?
I think people love and hate walls but nature hates them.
So that's how she does the accent so well 😂😂😂
There's no way it's just where she's from like I'm from clare and I have a clare Irish accent lol
She doesn’t need to pretend 😂
Heard her say in a interview she was so excited to play a role in her own accent. She never expected that to happen.
Her and who play Michelle are both from Derry arent they and who plays orla is Irish. It's just who plays claire that fakes an accent (I think)
@@hellanistpunk3282 The actress who plays Orla is from Dublin and the actress who plays Claire is from Galway so they're both faking the Derry accent.
“Sure if she’s not into walls she’s not into walls Erin love”
I was waiting for someone to comment that 😂👍🏻
Damm British channel 4 shows NI people in a bad light, 'Derry Girls' pokes fun at people in Derry and makes them all look trashy...

Just because it is familiar does not mean it is mundane :) I've had to tell myself that about my hometown
It does have some excellent architecture but the streets looked somewhat grimy. Do people still chew gum there or are the splots on the ground historic?
Alannah McMahon I live in Donegal but I love Derry
I honestly just watched this because of Saoirse
It astounds me how she can bend her lovely face into such hilarious expressions in Derry Girls.
I was just thinking the same thing!! The face she makes when she finds out about the plumber "hitting on" her mom is hilarious!!

I love to death that she's still coming across as down to earth.
How can you not love this girl.
She’s literally Erin
MYYear12Life T she is Erin 🤦
MYYear12Life T no shit?
She means she acts very similar to the character. Obviously it’s her who plays Erin, but the way she behaves is very close to the way Erin does

i love her outfit: the green jacket, converse, wide legged pants and that awesome hair
I only watch this because I want to hear the accent 😅 😆
One of the dislikes is from Katya😂
Her name sounds like cat.
Just love Derry Girls, hope it's back on soon.
The city walls are glorious
Bucketlist to visit Ireland and Scotland. Derry looks like a beautiful city!

Derry is beautiful and interesting to visit! Very friendly people!
Interesting how she pronounces her name as Seer-sha while Saoirse Ronan claims her name is pronounced Sur-sha.
Gunnhild Edwards all lot Irish names are pronounced differently in different counties
Northern vs Republic accent. Jackson is from the North and Ronan's family comes from the south. :)
They have two completely different accents
The Carlow accent and the Derry accent are not remotely similar, so they're not!
The vast majority of people in Ireland would pronounce it Seer-sha, very few people would pronounce it Sur-sha.
