- From this video we will start the Parts of the Constitution of India. The Preamble is the first page of the Constitution of India which gives the basic essence of the Constitution of India. It says " WE, THE PEOPLE OF INDIA, having solemnly resolved to constitute India into a SOVEREIGN SOCIALIST SECULAR DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC and to secure to all its citizen
JUSTICE, social, economic and political;
LIBERTY of thought, expression, belief, faith and worship;
EQUALITY of status and of opportunity; and to promote among them all
FRATERNITY assuring the dignity of the individual and the unity and integrity of the Nation;
IN OUR CONSTITUENT ASSEMBLY this 26th day of November, 1949, do HEREBY ADOPT, ENACT AND GIVE TO OURSELVES THIS CONSTITUTION.
We will explore the different words used in the Preamble and try to understand them. Words like Sovereign, Socialist, Secular, Democratic, Republic.

Please correct a mistake. The 42nd Ammendment Act was in the year 1976 and not 1973

The 42nd Constitutional. amendment is added in 1976. Not in the 1973
Irony is indian constitution talks about equality that no one should get special privilege on basis of caste....and yet one has to score only 10 marks to get a job while other need 100.
That according to article 14 comes under reasonable classification under intelligible differentia. Having said that, I don't condone such practices even after 73 years of independence. I believe reservation should be based on financial condition and accessibility to resources.

42nd is unconstitutional for so many reasons
1. Preamble is not part of constitution it is TO the constitution hence cannot be changed.
2. Preamble is given by the founding fathers and no amendment can be made to misrepresent their will.
3. 42nd amendment was brought under a captive parliament and so such amendment can not be permanently allowed to stay.
SIR,The 42nd amendment act was in year 1976 not in 1973 enacted by the Indian National Congress headed by Indira Gandhi it is also known as 'mini Constitution'
