Looks beautiful! Much appreciate the info, especially the note on the PSI affecting the grit and final texture
Just gained a Sub!!! This is the best Raptor Liner video on youtube I have seen. Ive been up in the air about raptor coating my 07 Fj now I'm 100% confident I can do it too. Thanks Mate
mario rios awesome thank you! I’m glad I could help! I was up in the air too but I’m glad I finally went for it and it’s a great product for the price
That's impressive. And you found a lady friend that will help out in the garage. That's a find in itself.
79 thump haha I agree I need to keep her around
We did the same back in the summer on our FJ and used 10 literes on the Fj and 3 liters on the bumpers, lower trim and wheel trim. Came out great as well.
Awesome I’m glad it came out well too! 🤟🏻
Ugh! I want one of these!
That looks awesome 👌 I did my Mitsubishi Montero sport, here in Colorado, people always asking about it
Carlton Hoffenkamp that’s awesome! 👌🏻 And same here I like that it’s something different
I just subbed because your turbo Install helped me a lot with my JDL kit. Saw a couple other of your videos and they’re awesomely in depth!
We The Dreamrz thank you so much! I’m trying because I know it’s nice to have something to go off of during some installs👌🏻 I’ll be posting more!
BrodyBuilt do you have a guide on how to install a new clutch in the FRS? I have to do that still 😫
We The Dreamrz sadly I don’t have a video but I think I’m going to bring my FRS home soon and if I do I’ll definitely make a clutch install overview video that shows how to drop the transmission and all that!
BrodyBuilt I’ll be waiting!
Looks good man. Im in the springs and plan to spray my FJ in the summer. lets meet up
Great job 👍👍
Sid KNIGHT thank you!! I’m really happy with how it came out 👌🏻
BrodyBuilt i did my WJ used 8 bottles total . people always asking what is that paint 😃😃
Looks Bad ass!
James Mayorga thank you!! I’m really happy with how it came out, I’m hoping the product doesn’t disappoint and I’ll be doing a durability review later on 👌🏻
Nice job. I notice this came out more of a dark gray than black. Any insight on that since you’ve done it a while ago now. I love the way it looks and that is exactly the shade I would like to achieve. Do you think it’s due to your particular application process, (# of coats, pressure, nozzle adjustment etc) ? Most other vidoes I’ve seen are clearly more black and shinier than this one. I love it. Any insight would be great. Thanks.
Nice job. 60 pi is what ill use. Turned out real nice
David Roman nice! The 60 psi definitely came out great and I think I’m going to try a higher psi next time
@@BrodyBuilt , I have another question. If you have to take tape off in a 15 min time period because tape can become part of the liner, how do you keep the tape fluid enough to take off tape after 3 times around with layers of liner that should take 3 hours.? I hope you understand the question. Thanks
David Roman you will not need to remove the tape within 15 minutes, I did wait an entire day before I removed any tape off of the FJ and it came off just fine! We have done a few vehicles now and the paint dries to the touch relatively quickly so really you could remove tape within that 15 min window after you have completely finished painting or wait a few days and either way it’ll be just fine! Hope that helps!
Question, do you think one could shoot other types of bed liner brands and/or paints out of that spray gun and get that grainy effect?
Man oh man, now I really want to do this to mine. You better save a small amount for when you have to replace your windshield in the future lol. It looks so good and I cant wait to see your next video, thanks again for making the video, the pics on IG are good but the video is so much cooler. Cheers
Gamma Boxer of course man!! I’m ordering more product as we speak because I have a few other parts I want to raptor line too so I should have a little extra for when I need a windshield 🤟🏻
Great job man did my tundra, stuff is awesome
Jason Christman thank you I’m really glad i finally did it, i bet the tundra looks great 🤟🏻
Looks good nice shop. KH
Excellent job. Did you have adjustable pistol (from raptor)?
leszek krupa yeah so I used the gun that they offer which has an adjustable rate and is made for their bottles so it worked great
Great job! How many coats did the 10 bottles give you in the end?
Jive Bellhouse so I sprayed really light coats but I’d say that did a solid 3 all the way around, they have a suggested maximum of the paint thickness but I’d have to double check that number
Outstanding content Brody! If you don't mind me asking how long was all the prep work prior to spray, rough estimate?
Ramadi2004 so it depends on what all needs to be done, pulling off all the parts and accessories you don’t want painted will take additional time but once the vehicle is stripped of all that, sanding and cleaning probably takes 8-10+ hours depending on how perfect you want your sanding job to be haha mine in particular I knocked out everything in 5 days because I just worked on it in the evenings and then painted it on Saturday
@@BrodyBuilt Greatly appreciate that info, thanks man!
Great Job!! Quick question..I'm in the process of sanding before raptor lining my FJ. How did you get off the rear window brush? I unscrewed the nuts but it is still stuck and I was not able to pull it out.
Thank you! And those brushes get stuck pretty easy, I had a little plastic crowbar that did the trick after I sprayed some penetrating oil on it. It’ll eventually pop free, sometimes putting the nut back on a few threads and lightly tapping it helps too.
@@BrodyBuilt thank you so much~
looks awesome !! what color of raptor liner is that???
Thank you! Sorry for the delay but thats their non-tintable black kit
How many times did you have to clean your spray gun during sprays? Looks awesome, just can't get up the nerve to scuff up my 2014 Ford Raptor.....
Hobie Bass Assassin With this paint job I didn’t start cleaning until the 3rd bottle I ran through it but after that (and other paint jobs I’ve done) I just ran a little acetone through the gun after each bottle which helped prevent the trigger from sticking and improve the spray. I totally understand tho! I have a 2011 Raptor and raptor lining it crossed my mind but I just really would hate to tear up that paint
Does this stuff produce a lot of dust and overspray when applied with the "Schutz"-gun from U-Pol? Do I need to cover vehicles that are like 5m away?
What do you think about something like Monstaliner for just the roof? I have a cavalry blue FJ and I've blacked out all the silver but I think it'd look way nice with a black roof. I feel like most bedliners are pretty forgiving and level out nicely as a finished product. But I'm always worried about them getting chalky looking and getting UV damaged from the sun over time. I've heard Monstaliner holds up a bit better to the sun.
I haven’t worked with monstaliner but if it’s anything like this raptor liner I used then you will be super happy with the outcome. The videos never do my raptor liner justice because it actually does have quite a bit of gloss compared to the flat appearance it has on camera but it hasn’t faded in 2 years so if monstaliner is better I’d definitely say go for it! Just make sure you do a nice prep job! 🤟🏻 id love to see it all said and done!
@@BrodyBuilt Haha, might be a while till I get around to it. I'm just researching the best options until I'm ready to pull the trigger. I appreciate the prompt reply.
Did you have to clean the gun at any point? Just wondering if the paint started to harden between bottles.
Kegan Mowery yes I did run a little acetone through the gun after around the 6th bottle and if I were to do it again I’d probably clean out the gun after every 2 bottles just because the trigger actually started gumming up internally
Can I apply adhesives promoter over chrome grill and bumper and then apply the raptor liner ? Thanks
Mr robot XX that should work just fine, chrome is a little tricky, Id probably do a light sand on the chrome then use the adhesion promoter and that should work but from what I’ve read about painting chrome you have to use a epoxy primer but I haven’t personally used an epoxy primer but it looks like it might be a little tricky and you need a mask to use it but if you used that after sanding the raptor liner would probably stick better
I’ve been wanting to raptor line my fj but multiple people have told me once it gets dirty it never gets clean again can anyone give me some advice
How does it do in a car wash and wear n tear? Is it pretty durable?
Which spray gun did you use the adjustable one or the basic gun it comes with
Sean Hunter mine was just the basic gun that came with the kit but it had the adjustable regulator on it too, it was an ok quality gun
After you applied all 10 bottles how long did you wait to peel the tape? I raptor lining my Fj in a week I've already started dismantling and sanding
mario rios so I peeled the tape off 2 days after I finished painting it, I just wanted to give it a little bit of curing time so I didn’t smudge the paint or anything but honestly it was pretty dry the following day so if you were careful you could remove the tape then! Good luck and take your time sanding and cleaning, I cleaned the whole thing 3-4 times because I kept getting stuff off the body
@@BrodyBuilt thanks for responding
mario rios of course!! 🤙🏻
Nice job how many raptor did you use
Thanks
dolarmangr thank you!! So I used 10 bottles but you could get away with 6 bottles for an FJ but I would recommend buying 8-10 because then you can maintain an even covering over the entire vehicle and depending on the color of the vehicle you may need more paint such as covering a white FJ will need more paint than a black FJ because the white will try to show through
Thanks again for your info 👍
I’m wanting to use this product for my Front and Rear Bumpers, Grill Surround,Hood Bulge and Side Steps on my Tundra. How many bottles do you think I’ll need?
Charles Stout you could probably get away with a 4 bottle kit on amazon for like $129 but it all depends on how heavy you go, if you went really light you could maybe do 2 bottles but I’d say 4 to be safe
BrodyBuilt cool thanks!!
Awesome the FJ truck style really suits the raptor paint - I think in the future there will be more trucks painted with raptor than with factory paint - I'm trying to start the craze over here in the UK - did my custom X5 - youtube 'X5 offroad beast' if you want to check it out (it's only a slide show).
Glenn Higgins thank you and I totally agree! I love the product and I’ll definitely check your video out thank you!!
Hi do you know if theres a difference between black raptor bed liner and black raptoe metalic bed liner
Memo Quinonez I personally have not used the metallic but there is a little bit of shine with the standard black depending on the lights but I’d assume they just add some metal flake to the metallic, I’ll try to get a hold of a bottle to get a comparison!
I'm getting my kit in the mail today , do you think the 8 pack is enuff for a Ford ranger 2 door reg cab ?
aux1z11 sweet and yes that should hopefully be plenty, I went super heavy and I was still looking for stuff to paint with 10 cans so I think 8 would be more than enough! Good luck 👍🏻
@@BrodyBuilt Thanks
What's your review on the paint job a year later? Still recommend ? Any pros cons?
The liner has held up great, no chips or fading and it has held up to tree branches and other trail rash without any damage. Washing it is not bad either you just have to take a little more time to scrub out the mud but it doesn’t stain. I’d definitely still recommend and I would recommend fully prepping the paint like I did because a friend of mine did his with less prep work and he did have some chipping issues
did you have to mask between the doors ?
Did the liner affect the parking sensors or are they working the as they should?
snowhite87 I taped off the actual sensor potion of the sensors so they didn’t get painted over so they’re still working. I assume the paint would prevent them from working but I dont know 100%
@@BrodyBuilt Thank you very much! That was a huge help
snowhite87 no problem!!
Did you have any trouble spraying around the rear side windows? Did you have any white showing?
Doug Allen nope it actually sprayed into the window seams really well and everything got covered, I did use regular black paint on the white areas around the doors which I may go back and raptor line soon because I’d like it to match when I run the tube doors but it’s not that noticeable being a non textured black
BrodyBuilt my FJ is white on black, like yours was. I’m thinking of doing a desert tan. I was just concerned about getting in that area. Thanks for the reply.
Doug Allen that’ll look awesome and you’ll love the liner, mines held up perfectly for the year and a half I’ve had it on
Wondering how long it took you to take everything off. Door handles, top bars, mirrors.
J G it only took a couple hours to pull everything off but I ended up spending 10+ hours pulling the old wrap off and sanding the body and prepping everything
BrodyBuilt thanks for the reply! I am going to try taking things apart this week eek wish me luck! My project while my husband is at work 🤪
The mirrors and door handles really aren’t that bad they just require the inner door panel to be removed
How durable is it ? Has it held up to pressure washing, rain and dings?
bartowflorida it’s amazing, holds up perfectly in the car wash and mud and grime washes right off of it and no issues in the snow, hail, rain and its adding a lot of material so it’ll be much harder to dent than regular paint
@@BrodyBuilt perfect!! Thanks
what PSI did you run at
pulled the trigger too early lol just heard what you said lol
Haha no worries but yeah they recommend the 40-60psi range which I ran it at 60 but I’m curious if it’ll spray out a less rough coat at a higher psi so on my next project I’m going to test it at 80 and 100psi
What size lift do you have on the fj
3in lift with 35s in this video
Can you spray it onto a chrome bumper?
If you use the self etching primer it should work just fine, I personally have not sprayed chrome with it but I’ve heard other people had success with the use of that primer
BrodyBuilt ok thanks for the reply watching from Ireland great job...
What psi were you shooting?
cloudisunset I ran it at 60 psi the entire time, toward the end of the video there is a clip where I zoom in to the paint to show what a 60psi texture will come out as
Nice, thanks
Is this more durable than a regular pint job
FRANCISCO CONTRERAS yes it is, it’s supposed to be scratch proof and harder to dent, hopefully it won’t disappoint 👌🏻
Definitely very strong stuff 👍👍
Sid KNIGHT awesome I’m glad to hear! I hope it holds up really well
BrodyBuilt it’s Urethane it should last for years to come & very easy to clean just car wash no drying needed .
@@BrodyBuilt sorry for all Questions how long did you waited between coats
I'm trying to figure out what kind of air compressor to buy. I was wondering what kind you have. I've watch alot a videos and I'm thinking about getting this 26 gallon one but I'm not sure.
So I used our shop compressor for this one and it’s a big boy (80gallon 5HP) but a 26gallon should be fine but I’d say try to get at least a 5HP motor just so you don’t have to wait for it to re air up every few minutes
Thanks I really appreciate it
Not a problem good luck with the compressor search!
Is that just regular black? Or a dark gray?
Regular black
Is the raptor liner hard or have a rubber like feel? Does it have UV protection?
J Jack the raptor liner dries rough and it’s very rubbery and the company does claim that it is UV resistant but only time will tell if that’s true or not, I’ll be posting an update video on raptor liner in a few months once I get it out and beat on it
@@BrodyBuilt i dont know if they changed formulas but i used raptor liner in the bed of my kids truck years ago and its not the slightest bit rubbery.
Crosis Borg yeah I probably shouldn’t have used rubbery because mine it definitely is just hard haha oops
How does it look in the sun ? Any stripes ?
Nope it came out really nice! Lighting in the shop was weird but as soon as I pulled it out it came out nice! I’ve been meaning to post a new walk around video so I’ll try to knock that out soon so everyone can see how the liner looks outside
Thanks, How is it holding
Up ?
Sean Hunter actually very well, I was worried that the road salt here in the winter would effect it but it’s done just fine with no peeling or discoloration
BrodyBuilt thanks man I’m on the same
Page here in PA with weather but i have my truck dipped currently. Going to peel it in the next week or so and start sanding and prep for the liner. I love the liner idea just stressed about the zebra stripes cause i want it to be perfect lol love my truck want it to look nice
Sean Hunter awesome! I’m really glad I went with the liner and it wasn’t hard to do, I went a little overkill with the prep work but it’s held up amazing so far for over a year
did u tint the paint?
I did not, this was their straight black liner, I’m not sure how much different the tintable black is compared to what I used
@@BrodyBuilt oh ok, it looked dark grey to me...
It really does, I thought the same thing when I sprayed it out and my unpainted black parts definitely look more black than the liner
What ral please??
What color is this?
Jeff Cremer this is what Raptor Liner considers black which depending on the light it looks black but other times it looks dark grey
BrodyBuilt Thanks man! P.S. I’m from Pueblo.
Jeff Cremer no problem! And sweet hope to see you around sometime!
What color code is this?
Destaye I don’t think there is a paint code on this bottle of Raptor, they just call it “Raptor Black.” They have paint codes on their tinted kits but not on this one
I thought higher psi was more coarse like it said on there personal video
Evan love the instructions from Raptor Liner state that 60 psi will be finer than the 40, I’ll do a spray comparison next time I spray to confirm but I just went off what their instructions said
BrodyBuilt ok I would be much appreciated if you could do a comparison thanks!!!
BrodyBuilt also with all 10 bottles how many coats did you get and what is the least you would recommend
Evan love not a problem I’ll just have to find something to paint but I went with a sold 3 coats on each panel but I went pretty light with each coat, I definitely think 8 liters would be more than enough and honestly I think you could even get away with 6 liters, I just liked having a little bit extra just incase I ran out
HI! ONE (1) BOTTLE IS 0,75L. (NOT 1 LITRE). SO, YOU HAD 7,5L RAPTOR LINE PAINT. 😉
Yes, each bottle is 750ml, but then you add 250ml of the Hardener to each bottle for a total of 1Litre per bottle of sprayable liner.
@@RickGreen_McNutt Hi Rick! You are right, it is 1Litre bottle. I was thinking, that one bottle hold just 0,75L. 😄 Sorry.. By the way, if i want to work with gravity spray gun, do i have to add deruser (15%) AFTER 1 Litre? (That makes 1,15 Litres..) What are you think? Bless you! ☺
It would have been so much more helpful and interesting if you had pointed the camera at the things you were discussing instead of talking about this at that part of the vehicle while looking at your face.
Great ‘how to’ video but no final reveal!! I wanna see it without all the masking
mattoriental needed to fully cure before pulling everything off, I have a bunch of other videos showing what it looks like, here’s a walk around video ruclips.net/video/BEeOkpVbn1g/видео.html
i wish I had the balls to do this but its permanent sand proven to devalue a vehicle.
Crosis Borg Yeah it’s definitely not for everyone but I don’t plan on ever selling my FJ so I wasn’t worried about it 👌🏻
Wondering why all the time people find cheaper deals than my because that same kit on e-buy is 202 dlls and in Amazon is 219
Wondering why I always pay more than all the people here in you tube🤔
Marconator it’s probably just going up in price, I just checked again and you’re right it’s $219 right now on amazon so idk, it’s still not a bad deal! I’ve been really happy with it and I plan on buying another kit to do the bed of my truck
@@BrodyBuilt
Ok is cool I am just saying
😓 I will buy a kit of 8 to do my 06 tundra
Marconator oh I totally agree idk why it’s going up and I agree it should only be 180 or whatever it was a year ago
@@BrodyBuilt
Ok I will be getting 8 liters I have my tundra 06 double doors to practice with lol.
Do u think 8 liters is enough
Imma thinking set my gun to 80 psi.... what do you think
Marconator I think so, I bought 10 for my fj and I had too much so I just sprayed my bumpers and rock sliders with it too. I also went super heavy so I think if you just did the standard 2 coats you’d have enough to to the tundra
B is for Build did it first.
Mode One Tech Reviews haha ok? Thanks 👍🏻
