When I was about nine a huge highway project started in our front yard. The hill on the other side of the road became the pit and all the highway gravel was crushed from this source. I'd get up early to watch the D9 Caterpillar start up and work the pit. I can still remember hearing the pony motor start and then the big diesel. After weeks of watching the operator waves me over and took me on a couple passes. What a treat!
Nice job rebuilding the little dozer. Now get the seat back on it and drive it until the tracks are loosened up. Then pull something that will labor the engine very hard to break the engine in property. Love your little dozer.
Hey Aaron and Greg, yea, "it's alive!" Man, I am so exicitrled for you both. Good job, guys. I need to take my starter pinion clutch out and see what's up with that. I have to hold mine in too. I'm glad my pinion stays engaged and disengages when it should.
It's good to see it running. After a few minor tweaks hopefully we will see it out being run in. It would be good seeing it towing a set of discs to settle it down under load. I guess it won't be long before we see a new project coming up.
You can bet we're going to work on more projects. The next major one will be the 5T, five roller frame in the other shop. When we get done with Lefty it's going to drag the one-way disc or a plow. 👍
❤😁 Freakin' AWESOME 😁❤️ I love seeing classic old Iron being brought back to working order and its original glory. Great job!! She sounds incredible and looks gorgeous. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Sir I have to be honest with you I have joined the party late and have only started watching after the Track soaking video. But I have to tell you I think it is an absolute honour to watch you and your father work on this caterpillar. The relationship you have with your father is something truly wonderful. You have most certainly got my subscription to your amazing channel. I am looking forward to going back through your previous videos working on the caterpillar. Sending love to you and your family from the UK.
Very much appreciated. I'm very lucky to have worked with my father most of my life. For almost 30 years my grandfather my father and I all worked together. My son was always there with us too. It makes me happy that so many appreciate the videos! We are happy you are here with us. 😊
Tom we're glad you're here with us. You, most of all, know what we're going through. Your comments and support of the channel has been a bright spot on every video. 😊
Incredible! I'm so happy to see this episode! My guess is you two will always have a little tweak that you "need" to do to it. But that's what makes you men you are. Thanks for bringing his along!
Man I’m so happy for you two. It sure does sound good running and moving under its own power. I’m sure you guys will get it all ironed out. It’s been a pleasure watching this project
It's been a long journey and not over yet....but I'm so very happy for you. I'm quite sure your son is smiling down on you and his Grandpa!! God Bless!!!
I said it when you got the starting engine running, now I'll say it again, CONGRATULATIONS! The D4 lives! Interesting to know that a D4 starting engine runs better on Folgers, I know I do. You are wise to prepare for a run away engine. It happened to me with an RD8. To long of a story to tell here but if it wasn't for the compression release i'd either be picking up pieces or pushing up daisies.
That's a bit scary! I'm going to have to hear that story sometime. I'll say one thing about Folgers. It's the best part of waking up that diesel engine! 😂
I'm a Johnny-Come-Lately to this channel and this saga specifically. I'm sitting on the edge of my seat, waiting to see if the dang thang movang will loosen up the tracks!!
So nice, I watched it twice. This great story is moving into its final chapter. Thanks for taking us along. Your editing is award winning, and the extras (outtakes) are always entertaining. Thanks for the laugh.
Congratulations! I'm a relatively new viewer on this channel but I've been checking out various episodes and I love seeing the old iron come back to life!
Congratulations guys! Really nice to hear that tractor run. Fine tuning the small problems should be easy. Getting her to run was the hard part and you did it!
I guess your going to pull the #1 injector ? Fix the leaks and your off and running, the shut off for the gasoline is perfect and most units have them LOOKS 👍🏻👍🏻
Its alive...its alive😂. Yes the monster is back from the dead. How much for the clutch dogs from CAT? It sees a D4 oil pan is the same exact capacity as the Kd35 and later D65 engine. Forgetting to open the valve? Oh that a common thing with me😂😂
Thanks Steve! The dogs are $55 each. It uses 3 of them. Two are still on backorder until late November. It suprised me how much oil it took. If the cooler was still operational I think that would take another 3-4 quarts. 😊
I used to work on EMD diesel s this boat had a pair 16-645-E they wore working the fleet putting around it had oily stacks the mechanic s told they were putting in new piston s rings and properly brake it in when there pushing 15 barge s hooked up there is just a haze coming out of the stacks congratulations what a awesome job you and your dad did
So happy to see Lil Lefty move! I met you in Longmont at the dougherty tractor show. I have binge watched all the episodes in this series since then. I was the guy in the C&Rsenal shirt on the Sunday. You guys have done such an amazing job. I look forward to seeing this project finished and to see you again at another show.
Thank you! I do definitely remember. You can bet this tractor is going to be at that show next year. Very much appreciate your support of the channel and it was a pleasure meeting you at the show. 👍
When I refurbished my 5U, I focused on eliminating all the worn out parts, even if they still "sort of" worked, because it was very hard to adjust anything with the motion lost from wear
Awesome guys 👍 The trouble with finding new, quality RUclips content is finding the time to watch all of the new, quality RUclips content. But sleep and work are overrated anyway So it looks like I'm gonna be here for a while 😁 Mr Aaron you have a highly impressive moustache 👍
Thank you! I tend to agree on the work and sleep, 🤣. We're happy to have you here with us at LAOL. 👍 The mustache is a lot more of a commitment than I bargained for.
Only recently found your channel & haven't had the chance to start looking back through your rebuild process. As this is from early August the following would be more for other commenters, ESPECIALLY if you've solved the fueling issue by now. When you had checked #1 did the connection to he injector weep? If it didn't the individual pump probably stuck in the raised position or not enough lift? Injector itself?
20 minutes on a new build and a dead cylinder is not ideal. Wash a cylinder down in short order. That's where your fuel in your exhaust is coming from. Hopefully it's just a hung injector. Could be an IP issue as well.
Got directed here from squatch’s channel. Keep up the great content!
Thank you. Welcome to LAOL!
Me too. Great channel!
And me, great channel👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Thanks carbie! 😊 I've talked to a few folks that said that pinion is a needles edge of adjustment. I imagine we can fuss with a little more. 👍
awesome 2 years of love
Right on Guys it’s a milestone no doubt about it few things to tweak but that’s to be expected 😀🇨🇦
It's good to see it running. After a few minor tweaks hopefully we will see it out being run in. It would be good seeing it towing a set of discs to settle it down under load. I guess it won't be long before we see a new project coming up.

Beyond happy for you. Some day I hope to reach this point with Grandpa's machine.
I'm sure you will! One thing I've learned with this is that big or small progress is progress. 👍
It moved! Congratulations guys, all your hard work paid off, thanks so much for taking us along! Bravo!!!
You've been an awesome supporter! We always appreciate your comments. 👍
❤😁 Freakin' AWESOME 😁❤️ I love seeing classic old Iron being brought back to working order and its original glory. Great job!! She sounds incredible and looks gorgeous. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Very cool! Remember the sounds from my Dad’s old D4. Used it to pack silage in Alliance, Nebraska.
That's not too far from here. Just south of some family we have in Chadron. 👍
Just the facts man. 😂
Tom we're glad you're here with us. You, most of all, know what we're going through. Your comments and support of the channel has been a bright spot on every video. 😊

Nice to see the emotion congratulations.😅
I know how it feels, to get a long term project running for the first time - such relief and joy. Well done. :)
It really is!
Great job Aaron and dad 👍🏾
And thanks again for helping me figure out my uncle's year of his 1951 D6
Anytime! Glad I could help. We really appreciate the views and comments. 😊
What a feeling to see it all start to run! Love those 90 degree shutoff valves - they shut off when you turn them off.
I was just making sure they work, 😂.
Excellent job 👍 ..,...!!!
I'm a Johnny-Come-Lately to this channel and this saga specifically. I'm sitting on the edge of my seat, waiting to see if the dang thang movang will loosen up the tracks!!
We're definitely going to give it a try!
So happy for you two, "she runs"! We all know you'll have her purring like a kitten in no time. Great job.

It makes my day to know that everything is appreciated. I tried very hard to keep it light-hearted and fun. 😊
I dont know about the rest of you, but I cheered when it started.

We've all done the unthinkable.

We are most definitely going to be working on the injectors in the near future. 👍
From 1 old Cat mechanic to two other cat mechanics good build brothers
Well done boys.

It moved too 🎉🎉🎉
Hi My Dear Friend Very Very Great Job Sir ❤❤❤❤❤

Thanks so much!!
Blood, sweat and tears.. so many people will never know the joy of it!
Yeah when she started to move I yelled GO GO GO! (:
I used to work on EMD diesel s this boat had a pair 16-645-E they wore working the fleet putting around it had oily stacks the mechanic s told they were putting in new piston s rings and properly brake it in when there pushing 15 barge s hooked up there is just a haze coming out of the stacks congratulations what a awesome job you and your dad did

When I refurbished my 5U, I focused on eliminating all the worn out parts, even if they still "sort of" worked, because it was very hard to adjust anything with the motion lost from wear
You have done well, now finish my dozer
Nice Vid! 😂
Well done, well done.....😂

Awesome guys 👍

It did weep and we will do an injector test in the future. 👍
💥Hurray!💥
There were a couple Squatch253 phrases sprinkled in there, "cautiously optimistic"...lol...i know Squatch is watching

Good deal.
I'm an emotional guy myself...I get it...
👍😎💯🇺🇲
Just make sure the pony motor oil does not have gas in it, you'll do the main pony crankshaft bearing!
👏👏👏👏👏
Here from Squatch’s place. Great content.
Thank you and welcome to LAOL!
👍👍
nice good
