I think it’s a great idea to remove the door in favor of the extra wall space . 😊 it wouldn’t be difficult to put it back if you ever wanted to.

One thought, LARGE deliveries. We have found that going in the first door and straight through to the kitchen is a breeze. The second door next to the stairs can be tricky to manoeuvre bigger items.Loved the cupboards! Smashing job!

I think this was an incredible choice! The fact that you’ve taken the time to live in the space and figure out what works for the two of you instead of just jumping straight into renovations speaks wonders. You’re going to feel like you have a much bigger living space once this is all finished and the fact that you took it apart so carefully means that the next owners can always add it back if they want (but I doubt they will)!

You shouldn't have to apologize or explain so much for doing work on your home. What are these times we live in. People should really mind their own business more. Good job on learning so much and doing it on your own. 💪

Love your videos... i always think it's a great idea to put a newspaper and a message into gaps like the one you've made between the door....a glimps into the past for whoever in the future owns your home and perhaps decides to reinstate the door. Go on, do it before it's plastered 😊

Blocking the door is a no brainer in my eyes. Originally there would have been a wall separating the rooms. Like Zara said, you naturally come down the stairs and use the other door and when you come in the front, you head through to the kitchen. It will be great to have a bit more wall space. Make sure you keep the architrave Luke as you never know, you may be glad of it for future work. Also the door, but I don't know how easy it will be to store it. Well done! Isn't it satisfying when you learn all these new skills and can say that you have done it yourself?!👏😘

You may know this, so apologies Luke….on your ‘gun’ there is a release button/leaver that stops the pressure and the glue/caulk/etc won’t continue to leak as much. Also I use a bit of wooden skewer pushed in the end or I screw in a screw. Regardless sadly the product still won’t keep forever and will go off but it will last for much longer if stoppered. You are doing such a really fab job. 🔨🪚🚪❤

Have you heard of Dulux Light and Space paint? It’s got reflective technology to help bounce the light round a dull room. It would be perfect in your hallway. I would block up the door too, heat retention is more important to me than a door you don’t use.

My first house was a Victorian terrace with a layout just like yours. The reason you have those two doors off the hallway is because originally they led into two separate rooms, a sitting room and separate dining room. Someone, at a later date, has knocked a hole through to make it one room, but just kept the two doors. Most people knock through for modern living, but we kept ours as two rooms so that I could shut off the sitting room and make it a toy-free zone when my girls were small. I think you are doing so well with all of your DIY and love watching you learn new skills. Keep it up!

A house from the period, it would have almost certainly been originally two rooms. Knocking through making it open plan was the thing to do, I think in the 70's to create more space. No need for two doors, and the space you have created works well and a sensible thing to do. I have to say I think you have done so well Luke, you are not afraid to just give it a go, it's the only way, and its the way you learn. You Tube, family who know what to do can always help if needed, and having the right tools for the job a big help as well. You smashed it!! Well done you!

Wow what a good job you’ve made of filling in the door way, I think it will definitely make such a difference, we had exactly the same layout in our house and one doorway was filled in exactly like yours, before we moved in I must say, and we’ve been in ours for 36 years and wouldn’t have it any other way, it’s not needed to have two doors so close together, and certainly a lot warmer. You really should feel proud of yourself Luke, you are a good learner, it’s all looking very professional and it’s all for your benefit and not some landlord. Great stuff.x

Wasn't sure at first but now love the wooden garden trough you used to hide the pipes. I'm going to be cheeky & suggest you get a couple more for the same wall. You could plant small herbs like Parsley, Thyme, Oregano and Sage in them. That way when you have the door open you will get the smells wafting in. Also you won't have too far to walk to pick hers if they are close by. Blocking out the door was a good idea. It will give you so much more room. Just for future reference with filling in the door way or if you add more walls elsewhere you could pack the gap with woolen insulation (every little bit helps).

The little bit of plaster that came away can be filled with a filler and sanded, which I am sure you know. However, as you are having the area you have boxed in plastered it can be done at the same time. You did a great job removing the door frame and only a small piece of plaster came away❣️

Hi guys, have you been able to replicate the skirting boards on either side of you blocked-up door? You've done a great job Luke, you're really increasing your skill set😊

Can I just say a big thank you. Recently you went to Home Bargains and were looking in the garden area. As you walked around you passed 2 dog statues. I thought they were Great Danes. I phoned the shop the next day as the dogs were not in our Home Bargains. It turned out they had been there for quite a long time and there was a little bit of wear and tear . So after a lovely chat with the Team Leader. I said I would have the dogs. I live near Portsmouth so it was a good drive. I'm glad to say we collected the dogs on Saturday. I can definitely see why you shop in that area. I have told my husband this is now my go to shopping preference. I must add my dads family lived in Eltham so Greenwich is not new to me. I love the park. Once again a big thank you.

Excellent choice to block up that wall! A glass door in the library would be beautiful. Nice job.

Don’t feel you have make excuses for taking that door out. The alteration is really “sympathetic” and you’re not making structural changes! I love everything you have done to your house (and that’s the important thing - it’s yours!).

Wow Luke......you really have earned the title of 'Handyman'.....I love how you give things a go & put your heart & soul into your projects. Your living room with the bookcases are going to be such a feature & I cant wait to see it all finished with colour on the walls. Great decision to block the door in....much better use of space & like Zara said its natural to come downstairs & walk straight through. You two have made amazing progress in your home & you should be proud of yourselves & each other.....lovely to see ❣️ xx

You did a fab job both with the door and the panelling on the cupboard doors. I thinking closing up the door makes total sense with one right beside it and increasing your living room wallspace 👏🤎

Without a doubt the first thing I would have done is block the door off to create extra wall space within the living room. Once it’s all plastered, painted etc it will be as if it never was there. Loving the colours & textures mood board, I am loving the colour Railings it really has grown on me. Way to go Luke, just a little surprise surprise moment when 2 become one 😜. Much love to you, Zara, Miss Maggie Moo & Miss Ivy 🐾 🐾 🐾 🐾

My house is like that it was parlour 1st room and 2nd room dinning room. They knock down wall in back room and built on an extension making room 20ft long and dark.
Outside is beautiful sunny and warm
