Even Emerson Fittipaldi demanded the '91 Indy champion into F1, saying he could win races in Europe (against Prost, Senna, Mansell, Schumacher). When McLaren signed him for 1993, Ron Dennis couldn't stop raving about what a special driver he had signed (while Senna was his other driver...). Then he got a modest 3 seconds from Senna in the '93 season-opening qualifying session, but even after that his gap was consistently between 0.6 and 2 seconds. With the car that won races and finished second in the championship, Senna was in the middle of the pack, piling up driver errors and retirements. He was so pathetic that Mclaren sacked him after Monza. At that time (after 13 races) Andretti had a total of 7 points, while Senna had 53. As the best IndyCar rookie of all time, he also became an outright champion at the age of 40 - typically beating another former F1 champion, 47-year-old Fittipaldi. The old boys of F1 gave the cream of America a lecture. Mansell also did well in the Indy500. He finished third as a rookie, 4 seconds behind the winner Fittipaldi, after a botched 40-second pit stop. And Andretti's is not an isolated incident. One could mention Zanardi, who after a modest F1 attempt became champion and celebrated star in America, then was called back to F1 and like Andretti, failed, just like Bourdais or Da Matta, who also qualified for F1 as American champion. Then the Americans proclaimed Montoya the best driver in the world... Montoya is also seen by many as a failure in F1, having left without a championship title and having been sacked in the middle of the year, but at least he was capable of a memorable performance. Only Mario Andretti and Jacques Villeneuve were able to win F1 world championships from America - both with dominant cars - but then faded into the midfield relatively quickly. In contrast, a good number of drivers who retired from F1 became successful and legendary in the American series (Indy/CART/ChampCar), e.g. Danny Sullivan, Bobby Rahal, Emerson Fittipaldi, Mario Andretti, Nigel Mansell, Alex Zanardi E.g. Rahal became a star in America after a modest F1 attempt. Both Mario Andretti and Emerson Fittipaldi, after dropping out of F1, went on to win championships in IndyCar. So the standard of the American series is nothing like F1. In the light of the history of motor racing, I can't take such praise seriously. Come over and show me.

I'm not a Max fan, but the dude is so good. I think he could learn very quickly and do well with the other cars Kyle drives. Not saying he's better, but I think he would do better than most think.
I think he’d be surprised at how different a stock car races (or V8 Supercar or similar). Something William Byron said over the weekend stuck out to me. F1 cars are glued to the ground with the amount of downforce they create and how light they are. Stock cars aren’t as they produce so much less downforce. So, in F1, the cars does a lot more of the driving, all you do is steer. In a Stock Car, you really have to drive the car. You can’t just go hammer down. You don’t see F1 cars getting sideways like you see a heavy Cup car.
When talking about F1 vs NASCAR, I feel like we think we are comparing single tennis vs double tennis (which is very different). But for me, it’s more like comparing rugby to the NFL. It’s just not the same thing, so it’s not worth the conversation. (I watch both NASCAR and F1)
first of all you ask respect for your sport while you show no respect for F1 and secondly you also call it world championships while it is only popular in america
New Zealand has produced 1 World Champion in Formula 1 Denny Hulme in 1967, the United States has 2 in Phil Hill 1961 and Mario Andretti in 1978. His point that you don't like is that the driver widely considered to the best ever in Formula 1 was beaten by a driver who had 1 Cup series win at Darlington in 1988.

Shocking comment & click bait. And utter nonsense. I enjoy Nascar, and don't even rate Verstappen that highly, but these sorts of claims and fake comparisons are just ridiculous and a waste of breath. It demeans the commentators.
Havrick is delusional. Every single average driver that switched from F1 to Indy or Nascar have won in it, but not in F1. Eriksson, Grosjean, Alosno basically won Daytona (if his engibe wouldn't had blowed up at the last lap) with less than one year of preparation...and on and on. The contrary it never happened, there's no true US citizen driver that have won something in F1 or it was even slightly competitive. And i will take as example also the Rally. Ken Block considered a God in USA, in the WRC was a Mr. No one with the bag full of money, his cars always with top tech and still he was performing poorly. To say how low the US driver level is and how the US motorsport World have a so much high consideration of themselver than the reality will tell us.
This is it. There is the US stage and then the international stage. I'd like to see nascar run in other countries and bring in some more international talent and audience but I don't know why that's not happened?
It’s going to boil down to these two eventually getting a chance to race against one another. It would be cool to develop another racing series with a somewhat neutral car where the champion of each racing discipline at the end of their season competes against the others, (NASCAR, Indycar, F1, Enduance, and maybe even the World of Outlaws) and the winner gets the title “Worlds Greatest Driver” for that respective year.
Jimmy Clarck, Formula One World Champion, came to Indy and had to compete as a rookie, he then entered the race and won by OVER TWO MINUTES., Kyle is six years older than Max. F1 is the Mont Everest. I don´t think F1 drivers are interest on this conversation. Americans are in denying mode here. If you want to reach Mont Everest accept you are not good enough, work on it and be more competitive in the next generation. They have good examples to get inspiration from. I think there is a reason folks don't go to F1 from nascar and vice versa. The F1 folks probably want to be in international series that's why you see them in sports cars or at le mans. Not often national series only such as nascar or super gt etc...
Remember IROC?

Yes, Steve Kinser, who is still the greatest Sprint Car driver of all time, could not compete too well in IROC.
I remember Carl Edwards dusted Michael Schumacher and the European announcers trying make excuses for him
Larson has more crashes this season than Verstappen has wins this season 😂

Same for Kyle Busch, he ran the Rolex 24 in a GT3 a few years ago and was mid pack at best and getting carried by his teammates.
