Hi Carole, thank you so much for sharing the sweatshirt pattern, I have been wanting to make a co-ord set with a sweat shirt and forgot that I had this one. xx Love the oven clove.
Thank you so much Patricia! Good luck with the blue fabric, sometimes we all need inspiration don't we, I know I get a lot from RUclips channels! I really appreciate your kind comment on my vlogs. 🧵😊x
Lovely photos of your holiday I was in Virginia USA too my son lives in Suffolk Virginia with his family I go out twice a year to see them. Lovely part of the USA I went out on 3rd Sept and got back on the 18th Sept. Love your Oven Gloves. I have an embroidery machine and took out to the USA 4 table runners I made for gifts using JuJu Designs 2 x Halloween and 2 x Christmas runners. X
You are right, Virginia really is a lovely part of the US and funny we were out there roughly the same time! Sounds like you have a much better Embroidery Machine than me, I only have a 4x4 hoop so the idea of doing Table runners fills me with terror!! Maybe one day I will upgrade. How wonderful that you were ahead of the game and took those lovely gifts with you. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment 🧵😊
Thank you Carole, was watching this while making your tissue holder-it came out great! Need to try oven gloves next. Love your bunting and birthday card for your dad- congratulations to him.
Thank you so much for trying my tissue holder and letting me know! I will probably show how I made those oven gloves when I make the pair for me, you really don't need a pattern for them. Thanks so much for the birthday wishes, I will pass those on 🧵😊
I hope to try the same version of the Toaster Sweater sometime this winter. I love the raglan sleeve version a lot, but I have never tried the split hem version. I have never tried peanuts and candy corn together either, so I‘lol have to give that a try too. Have a wonderful weekend. 😊
Hi Cynthia! I do love that Simplicity version of the Toaster sweater as the neckline is smaller than the 'proper' version and I have made both. The split hem one I have done about 5 times though as it is a quick and rewarding sew! That corn and peanuts was quite a combo, you should definitely try it. Happy Weekend 🧵😊
Carole, nice fabric for tee and I love the upgraded neckline! I guess that’s a cotton tape? I like the side openings. I knitted a pullover sweater with this detail and it’s a favorite.
Hi there, hope you are well. Oh dear I am naughty as I didn't say that I just cut a scrap bit of jersey for the neckline. How wonderful that you knit as well, I have dabbled in the past but I just don't have the patience for anything other than babywear! Thanks for watching and enjoy your weekend 🧵😊
Your Dad’s cake is awesome - aren’t people clever? Loved your Mum’s oven glove and pot holder too. A very polished finish. I must make some more oven gloves - possibly for Christmas. Hope you get to make yours. That cotton jersey is lovely and as for the autumnal firework viscose jersey, that’s 🤩. I’ve had my eye on something similar for ages (but trying not to buy any fabric.) so I’ll be very interested in seeing what you make with that. Have fun Carole! 👍
Thanks so much for all your lovely comments! Hope Mum likes the oven gloves too and if she doesn't, I'll have them back 🤣. I'm excited to make up the Fireworks jersey as it will be a wrap dress which I haven't made for years, should go well with boots I hope! Hope you have a good week with lots of sewing 🧵😊
I just found your channel, and I like it very much. You were in my neck of the woods, Virginia. DC is great to visit, but oh how I love my Virginia! The beautiful Blue Ridge is our escape place from the hustle and bustle of life. Your sewing/clothing style is very close to mine, and I appreciate seeing patterns I'm unfamiliar with. Love the bunting, and the birthday cake! Sweet & salty snacks are a big thing here in the US--now I might need to get some, too! Have a great day!
First of all thank you so much for discovering my channel and taking the time to comment! How wonderful that Virginia is your home with those gorgeous Blue Ridge Mountains. We did visit 17 years ago and waited too long to return! There is just something about your area that we love so much. As you say, DC was great to visit but we aren't 'city folk' at all! I hope you will continue to find my channel interesting and varied with the odd fun bit in between! Thanks again 🧵😊
Beautiful binding on the neckline. I need to do that! I just usually use my serger. That knit top fits you perfect at the bust and shoulders. You may not want to size up. You are blessed to have both parents. I lost my father in 2005 and my mother in 2019. Enjoy them while they are here. The oven gloves and potholders are beautiful. Great decorations for your father's birthday. I just picked up some quilted fabric to make a jacket also! Mine is not double sided. I will have to line mine. I think your grey ribbing will go with the pink just like the cover. What a fantastic cake!! I've always wanted to learn how to decorate cakes but afraid I would get fat eating them!! 🤣🤣♥♥
Hi Grace! I will say that although doing the binding is a little fiddly I feel so proud of the neckline when it is done!! Katie told me she always knows which T shirts I have made when she does the laundry as you can see the seam....not any more!!! It sounds like we are heading into quilted jacket season, yours of course will be awesome and you are taking the trouble to line rather than my short cut. Can't wait to see it xxx💗
Carole, I’d suggest grading out the hips a little on your Toaster Sweater pattern rather than sizing up. The shoulder, bust, and waist fit is wonderful. I love how you draped the arm of the blue blouse over the shoulder of the floral blouse. So cute and unexpected! Your oven gloves are lovely. Your mum will enjoy those. I have trouble with the binding when I use batting and the Insul-Brite. That cake! Wow! Peanuts in candy is an acquired taste. 😂 What I really like is cinema popcorn mixed with chocolate covered peanuts or Goobers. 😘
Great spot on the arm of the blouse Lynn! I did wonder if anyone would notice 🤣. You maybe right about grading out slightly as the arms and bust do look ok. A sign of the times for me I think!! This is the first time I have made oven gloves using my Juki, and wow the difference was incredible, it had no trouble. Popcorn and chocolate?! Oh no not another thing to try 🤪. Have a great weekend and thanks as ever for watching 🧵😊
@@socarole66 oh, no. I don’t think my house can fit any more sewing machines in it! I’ll try my heavy duty mechanical Singer before I decide on another machine. 😊
I love that you started autumn sewing - I’m still up to my eyeballs with Frocktails sewing but cannot wait to make all the sweaters and long sleeve tops! Love the oven gloves and happy birthday to your mom! I love mixing sweet and salty snacks. My favourite is chocolate-covered pretzels!! Gorgeous photos at the end… as always! Have fun at the holiday home! Xx 💞
As soon as I started making the Autumn top we had a blast of hot weather and honestly when I filmed it in the garden I was boiling 😂. Now Chocolate covered Pretzels I have seen but again, they just sound weird to me, I will give one a go when I next see them though. Thanks so much for the birthday wishes, my Mum is very hard to sew for so I hope I have a winning gift this time round 🤞🏼. Have a great weekend too 🧵😊
Great video Carole. Good tip about the sweater. I have this pattern and can’t wait to give it a go. I’m so behind after my broken wrist 😂. Take care. X
Oh no, a broken wrist! I know exactly what it feels like as I broke mine 13 years ago tripping over our beloved dog Mickey! I do hope it mends soon for you and you aren’t in a cast for too long. Thanks so much for your comment and watching. Take care x🧵😊
Carole, here in Texas, there is a trail mix here that has candy mixed with assorted nuts and dried cranberries 😊 it is different, BUT I LOVE candy corn ❤
Woohooo! I’m so proud 🥹 the binding looks amazing! Thank you for the lovely comments! So glad the party went well and the oven mits look fantastic. Gorgeous autumn plans 🍂 and OMG candy corn and peanuts!!! This I just HAVE to try.. all that’s missing is a glass of wine! 😉 lovely vlog as always and hope you have a lovely weekend ❤
Rachel, I heard Carole mentioned you inspired her to do the neck binding. Do you have a video on how you do the neck binding to look like Carole's looked?
Your expressions while eating the candy corn/peanuts was priceless. 😂The mix of the two tastes like a candy bar called “payday.” The oven gloves are so nice. Birthday blessings to your parents. 🥳 Enjoy your weekend! 🧵
Oh I know, my face and I look like I'm concentrating so hard 🤣. I've never watched myself eat before! I've seen the PayDay bars on my trips, I'll have to search out something similar in the UK. Thanks so much for your kind wishes 🧵😊
I like how you did the splilt on the blue sweater. Please do a video to show us how to adjust the pattern to make that. I love the fireworks fabric. Beautiful colors.
Thank you so much Diane. I really didn't explain that split at all well did I! Next time I sew that pattern which won't be long I will show it. Basically I just extended the side flaps adding another 5/8" and sewed one down just the 5/8" and the other side twice the 5/8". I then secured it at the top of the split with a line of stitching to keep the fold 'over'. I am useless with words but I hope you get what I mean!! 🧵😊
Thank you for another lovely video, Carole. It's nice to see someone still sewing with the Big 4. I still use commercial patterns, with some favourite indie patterns thrown in. As I'm in Australia, I support a couple of local excellent pattern makers - Tessuti and Pattern Emporium. Looking forward to more of your inspirational sewing. I have decided that the oven mitts are a great gift for friends moving into a new house, or getting a new kitchen.
Thanks so much for watching. I do try to use a different mix of patterns but I do have I think nearly 1000 of the Big 4. I have tried a Tessuti pattern I think, a sort of Cocoon dress a couple of years ago. I didn't know Pattern Emporium was an Australian company, I haven't done any of those. I am hoping that Mum likes those oven gloves, it is so hard to buy for someone in their 80s but I guessed that most people need new oven gloves but it is something we never get around to buying is it?! Have a great weekend 🧵😊
Carole, I have a habit of tidying my sewing space and leave my sewing in a position ready to sew straight away. I am going to try the 3 min trick in the rest of my house thank you.
Well done on tidying the room before you leave! Now I have my 3 minute rule in place my room will be as organised as yours I hope! Thanks so much for watching and commenting 🧵😊
Wow loved the bunting as it is something you can use again ( well the plain one, 90 is certainly a good age) the oven gloves are gorgeous and the pot holder, your mum will love them such pretty fabric 😊 loved your sweat top but really don’t want to think of autumn and winter 🥶 😂 but look forward to seeing your makes ❤
Thanks so much Sandra. It's ok, I had already thought I could reuse the bunting and maybe swap out the 0 for a 1 for next year 🤣. Wasn't that fabric so pretty for the oven gloves? I'm so envious but if Mum doesn't like them I'm having them back!! Ever since I started sewing for Autumn we have had Summer temperatures 🤣. Have a great week 🧵😊
I love your sewing plans. I’m about to start a sweatshirt/ long sleeve jumper. I discovered a wonderful fabric and haderdashery shop when I was out for a drive with my son who was visiting. The shop is in north Derbyshire. It has good makes of fabrics and is beautifully laid out. I got some pretty blue sweat shirting and am dying to get on with making it. In N Ireland Guy Fawkes not celebrated, for religious reasons. Instead Halloween has always been celebrated and that’s when we have fireworks. Love your videos. Xx
Oh Ann, how wonderful you have found a new supply of fabric and haberdashery! It is this time of year I get so keen to sew cosy things then 2 months in I want to sew those lighter easier fabrics again 😂. Fireworks at Halloween, now that is something we don't have but it could work as very Autumnal. I thought maybe N Ireland might have celebrated it to be honest. Thanks so much for your comment and hope you are well 🧵😊
I'm in Canada and I've never heard of candy corn and peanuts together, or crisps and chocolate. But we do enjoy cheese popcorn mixed with caramel popcorn.
Oh hang on a minute... cheese and caramel?! 🤢. That is beyond strange! 🤣. So many people told me about the candy corn and peanuts I really thought it must be 'the thing'! Thanks for watching as always and enjoy your week with your strange combos 🤣 xx🧵
Oh, Carole, you’re such a good sport to try the candy corn and peanuts on camera! 😍 I love your fall plans. I just finished my last summer make and turned my mind to fall, but it’s still pretty hot here. My sewing time is limited, so I need to go ahead and prepare for cool weather, if it ever gets here. Have a great week. 😊-Deborah
Hi Deborah, I had no idea how awful I looked when I ate and I looked so serious 😂. I went on later to finish the entire bowl!! I am looking forward to my Autumn sewing but it really was warm here this week as well and I was so hot filming the top in the garden. It is going now of course! Have a great week as well and happy sewing 🧵😊
I love your videos Carole and the fact that you use mainly big 4 patterns is great. You always inspire me and I don’t end up buying patterns at at £20 a time. The green knitted fabric is lovely and I look forward to seeing it made up.I hope this good spell of weather lasts whilst you are at your holiday home.If you are going to make the oven gloves perhaps you could film a demonstration of how you do it.I would love to make some as gifts.❤
Thank you so much for all your kind comments! The green fabric is all cut and ready to go so it will go down to the holiday home with me, keep your fingers crossed it works out as that jumper ! I will certainly do a video on the oven gloves if you are interested. They are easy to do apart from the binding being fiddly at the end! Have a great weekend 🧵😊
@socarole66 I made it for collab with Tiffany, Samantha, and Caitlin. It's a very easy pattern. Collar may be a little tricky to finish it nicely, but you are a great sewist. You will be fine. I did FBA on my
Your new top is very nice, I love the fabric. Rachael has me putting bias binding on all my necklines now, but they do look so much nicer. Such a great cake for your dad. Awesome. Your face when you were eating the candy corn and peanuts was hilarious. Have a great week and thanks for sharing. Love the pictures at the end.
Hi Carol, thanks for stopping by. You are right, those bindings make the necklines look so professional don't they even though they are a tiny bit fiddly! I have never seen my face eating anything before and couldn't believe how serious and awful I looked 😂😂. Have a great weekend too and glad you liked the photos 🧵😊
Thanks for reminding me about your simplicity/toaster side split hack Carole. That's a genius idea, that I had forgotten about. Glad the party could go ahead.
Thanks for watching Annette and yes, I think it looks less home made having slits done like that. I did forget to mention that I levelled them as well. Dad really enjoyed the party and now it’s over we are all so relieved to be honest! Enjoy your weekend 🧵😊
The party sounds lovely. Love the bunting. I must also get on with some oven glove making myself! Yours’ were lovely. I like the fabric choices.❤ I must get on with my autumn sewing too. I’m really impressed by the 3 minute tidy plan. Must try that too. So all in all this video has been most inspiring, making me get my act together! 🙏
Oh I really loved the fabrics in those oven gloves and as I said, I was so envious of the finished results, if Mum doesn't like them I am taking them back 😂. The 3 minute plan works so well for me as it isn't too long and I don't get distracted, good luck if you try it! So glad you enjoyed my video and thanks so much for watching as always 🧵😊
I’m applying the 3 minute tidy to all sorts of things as the summer got away from me a bit. Great idea! Re the oven gloves, I know what you mean! I hate it when you make something you adore, give it to the recipient and they look underwhelmed. The tendency is to give people the best you can achieve but just a suggestion, you could try and make up a second version, and give that to your Mum? Best of both worlds? 😉
Great idea for the side slits on the top, it elevates the top. I love the cake, bunting and card for your Dad's 90th birthday! The oven mits for your Mom's birthday are beautiful! Thanks for sharing your pictures of your trip. Thank you for all your videos! Enjoy the weekend at your holiday home.
Oh thank you so much for such lovely comments, I am glad you still enjoy my videos. When I look at tops in the shops they never seem to have those open slits which is why I changed that particular top. Hope you have a great weekend as well with lots of happy sewing! 🧵😊
I absolutely enjoy all of your videos! Your clothing style is similar to what I like to wear therefore I look forward to each video to see what you will make next. Love seeing all of your photos as well. You are a great photographer. 😁 Thank you for sharing all your hard work and your life with us. I look forward to visiting the UK in the future. ❤
Thank you so much Mary for all your kindness! I am glad I make clothes that inspire you, I get my inspiration from other RUclipsrs as well, particularly Vivmom. I do hope you get the chance to visit the UK one day and if you do, I hope our weather is kind to you!! Have a great weekend 🧵😊
Hi Carole love all your vlogs. I am still in beginner mode but found (after intense research lol) that for my tummy area if I do a horizontal dart from CF to side seam just at the waist (same as the swayback dart but letting out instead of taking in) it falls to the correct length at CF and gives my well earned tummy breathing room. And I don’t have to go up a size which tends to give me a body builder vibe round the shoulders with all the excess fabric.
Thank you so much for that comment and tip on the tummy area. As you say, I don't think going up a size will help me at all and I really don't want to get the shape you described 😂. 🧵😊
Hi Carol! Well, your sewing plans sound wonderful but it's rather difficult for me to get on the "sewing for Fall" bandwagon when we're still having such hot & humid weather! Know what I mean? Oh, I have a feeling that candy corn with salted peanuts would be REALLY good! Oh my!! It would probably be like a salted nut roll called a PayDay. Have you ever tried one of those? YUM!!! What a lovely birthday cake your Dad had! The cake maker is quite talented! Happy Belated Birthday to your Dad and a very Happy Birthday to your Mother!! She'll love her present, I'm sure. Have a great week-end!!
Hi Deb, someone else mentioned PayDay and I saw that bar in your shops! I am not surprised you aren't ready for fall yet and really you only get cold weather in January don't you? It has been another couple of warm days here too but I imagine that is the last of it for us. I do hope you are right about the oven gloves for Mum, she is a tricky lady to buy and sew for!! Hope all is well with you all and take care xx💗
Thank goodness I like the 3 minutes tidy rule. I usually set my timer for 10 minutes and sometimes it feels like it's too long and I feel badly that I feel badly that it's only 10 minutes. Hahaha was that confusing or what! I have to tidy up a little at the end of my sewing sessions because if I don't I won't want to go back in the next day to do anything. I'll walk in and walk out!
I have done a lot of research into my 3 minute timer thing believe me. 2 is too short and anything over 3 and I start to get distracted and start looking at stuff 😂. Hope it works for you xx
Well done you. As for the oven gloves, I don't like the heat resistant stuff for many reasons. What I use and love, is leftover samples of thermal back fabric for curtains. Then I get old woollen blankets from charity shops and have less layers. The finished gloves or pot holder are stiff at first but last years. Soaking them in bleach gets most of the greasy stains out, but making new ones every year or so is great for the people you never know what to get. Having extras is always handy if you get unexpected guests who bring gifts. Just disappear to collect their gift and no one ever suspects they were an after thought lol.
Hi Annette, it is funny you should say about having gifts 'on standby' as that is what I have started to do when I make things. Make a couple of options then put aside what I don't use. Re the heat resistant stuff, you do a great job recycling stuff there! Adam has told me of better stuff to use that doesn't make the annoying noise. Thanks for watching 🧵😊
Wow Carole! Such lovely pictures, that’s a great shot of the White House and Capital building! You’re so brave climbing all the way to the top of that fire tower! Your makes are lovely this week, you’ve been busy! Can’t wait to see your autumnal tops. I have never mixed candy corn with peanuts, but hey, everything tastes better with peanuts. If you have bottled Coca-Cola, try adding a small package of salted peanuts right in the bottle. It’s a taste like no other and mostly a southern thing. Have a great weekend 😁
Thanks so much Sue! The funny thing about that tower is when we visited it with the kids about 17 years ago, I couldn’t make it up the top as too scared and always regretted it. I was on a mission this time and it was very much mind over matter, wow it did move about though 🤣 Now I don’t like Coke but Chris does so I will definitely get him to try that! Have a great weekend 🧵😊
@@socarole66 , the peanut thing works with Pepsi, Dr. Pepper, or any cola, really. I don’t know how appetizing it would be with Mountain Dew or the equivalent. Hope he likes it!
Interesting candy combination. Ive never heard of candy corn mixed with nuts. Your photos at the end are always so beautiful! Fun vid!! Have a fun weekend LOVE YOU❤
Now I really thought you would know about the corn and nuts! You need to try it and of course, I finished the bowl after 😂. It is easy to take beautiful photos when the scenery looks like that! Have a great weekend my friend x💗x
Another really enjoyable video Carole. Your sweater doesn't seem to look too tight to me. I like it a lot. I agree about your face when you try the nuts mixed in with your candy corn (is that what it's called). Intriguing obviously. Thank you. Maree
Thanks so much, the sweater didn’t look as bad with the trousers I had on actually, I think they pulled my tummy in a bit! When I watched the film back of me eating I was horrified, that’s something we never see is it 🤣. Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking the time to comment 🧵😊
Navy is one of your colors, Carole! It looks beautiful on you! Happy birthday to your mom! Her gifts are lovely - you know how much I love practical gifts! Fab job quilting those! That pink, quilted jacket will be fab! I hope you have a wonderful weekend! Enjoy your Candy Corn! 🧡💛🤍😘
Thank you so much Andra, I am a Winter so yes, Navy is one of my colours. I do hope you are right and Mum likes the gifts, she can be tricky!! We have had a fabulous day at the coast and did a wonderful walk so all is good so far! Hope your trip went well. 💗🧵💗🧵
Beautiful pictures. I LOVE that part of the US. I can remember climbing to the top of those fire towers. They are situated all over the US. I use candy corn on the top of my pumpkin cake with cream cheese frosting. They always remind me of Halloween. Happy sewing.
Thanks so much for your comment. What I forgot to tell people is last time we went to that tower I couldn't get halfway up for being scared and regretted it for years. This time I was determined! Candy corn on top of a cake IN frosting, now that sounds amazing! 🧵😊
I always feel like that about her cakes!! Poor Dad had no idea where to cut it either, it was yummy though 😂. My face eating those corn and nuts, it was awful!!! Hope all is well with you and thanks for watching🧵😊
Hi Carole. I was so happy to see your video is up. The sweat shirt is so pretty. I love the way you do the side split. It really elevates the look. The oven gloves are awesome. They look so professional. Your Mom will love them. (Happy Birthday to her.) I I’m excited that you’ll be able to use the fabric. Your plans are so exciting. The autumnal firework fabric is lovely. I am going to try the three minute cleaning idea. I’ve been dreading going into the sewing room because I left a mess last night. Thank you for the tip. The cake was perfect for your Dad. I always wanted to take a class to learn all that. But….never did. I have never heard of peanuts and candy conn 😂 Now we must try that. I laughed and was so excited to see what you were going to do.The photos were breathtaking. A few I recognized. Thanks for the mention and for the wonderful video. Have a great weekend. Xoxo Diann 🍓
Thanks so much Diane for all your lovely comments. If it wasn't for you I would never have had the candy corn 😂. I did go on later that evening to finish off the entire bowl! I can't wait to make a pair of Winnie the Pooh ovengloves, I just hope I don't burn little Piglet 😳. I imagine you did recognise a few of my photos, I am very envious of you living in such a beautiful part of the States but I will admit, we did a lovely walk today and it was great not worrying about snakes, bears and bobcats!! Just the odd squirrel every now and again. Thanks again and hope all is well with you xx🍓😘
I love that snack. I'm from Ohio in the USA and I have often had "Good old Raisins and Peanuts" (called GORP for short) mixed with candy corn or M&M's. Great travel mix.! Love your videos!
Wow Cynthia, raisins, nuts and candy corn? Now that is quite the combo!! As you say, it must make a great snack for travel as you have everything. Thanks so much for your kind comments 🧵😊
Fun video, Carole. I've never heard of combining peanuts with candy corn. The cake was truly amazing! I always look forward to the pictures at the end. Have a great weekend and enjoy all those great sewing plans.
Thanks Kathy, so many people mentioned the corn and candy together I thought I really must try it! I am glad you enjoyed the video and yes, that cake was brilliant wasn't it? Have a great weekend 🧵😊
I'm glad someone suggested combining candy corn with peanuts, so I didn't have to. The problem with the combo is that I eat too much of it. It is a fun thing to have in a pretty small bowl when you have friends or family over in the autumn. Carole: "It's not unpleasant." 😂 It's always fun to see what you produce using your embroidery machine, even though I really don't plan to ever have one. I don't remember your Butterick long sleeve tops with gathered sleeve heads, so look forward to see the new one. That fireworks fabric is FABULOUS! 3 min. tidies are very worthwhile. Thanks for reminding me.😊 I was better at remembering to have my 5th graders (10 year olds) do these when I was a classroom teacher. I've seen beautiful images of Bonfire Night along the coastlines in the UK in some of the fictional television shows produced there. Happy Autumn! - Kelly
Hi Kelly, thanks so much for all your kind comments as always. Re the Butterick tops, I did make in the Summer my 'Posh red T shirt' as I called it from that pattern but yes, it is a while since I did some long sleeved ones. 3 minute tidies work so well for me as after that I get distracted 😂. I do love to see Fireworks but a lot of people get very angry about them because of their pets! Saying that our dog as he got older became more and more afraid of them sadly. We do have firework displays in our local Seaside town in the Summer and they are wonderful. Have a great weekend🧵😊
Your plans are winners. I tried that butterick 6859 I find the collar is to high, mine turned out a bit different. I have some work to do. Your dad's cake was amazing. The candy corn experiment was a hoot. I am an odd American, never very fond of candy corn to eat but I love the smell. It makes the house smell like Autumn. Have a good week.
Thanks for your comment Cynthia, I am having a real think now about whether I have ever lowered the neckline before on that top. Quite often I reduce necklines down by an inch at the front, I will soon find out as I am making the green one this week. The smell of Candy corn? Now I need to go and sniff the bag 😂. Happy Sewing 🧵😊
I've made that Simplicity 8529 3 times and am ready for more - I graded out at the bottom and sewed the side split down more as the first one showed skin when I moved my arms - plus it was drafty 😄! The oven mitt is so cute and I would appreciate a tutorial to make Halloween bunting for my fireplace. Your father's cake is incredible ! Beautiful photos - my husband worked in D.C. for 5 years, coming home on the weekends - it was a loooong 5 years! Not a fan of candy corn myself but yes to peanuts by themselves 😋! My father put vinegar on cooked spinach but I've never met anyone else who did - I realized later vinaigrette dressing on a spinach salad wouldn't be too different. I'm sewing Simplicity 3012, a hoodie, as I watch, but wearing shorts and a t-shirt - it will get cold, I know!
Hi Mary, thanks so much for your comment. I forgot to say I ALWAYS lower that split on the 8529, as you say, it is ridiculously high isn't it 😂. It must have been exciting for your husband working in DC but I do feel for you being left to run the house. My husband did a spate of working every other week in South Africa when the kids were smaller, that was hard to adjust to! Luckily it was only for 6 months, we did earn a lot of air miles though 😂. Funny you should say about that hoodie pattern as I was looking at it the other day. Are you doing the split sleeve version, that could be drafty as well 😂. Happy Sewing! 🧵😊
Commuting to South Africa is much more than the few hours my husband traveled every week! I was very busy then helping family members so I was glad not to have to think of something to cook every night - he works at home now - his favorite question is, "What's for dinner?" 😃! I'm making the short-sleeve version of S3012 and will wear a long-sleeved t-shirt underneath. Having a big opening in the elbow definitely defeats the purpose of a cozy hoodie for me!
Thanks Carole. Been a tough week for me this week so sitting down to watch you this evening was very relaxing and helps me feel that the weekend has started. Have a smashing time at your holiday home. xx
Hi Debbie, so sorry to hear you have had a tough week. Hope you are ok. Thanks so much for watching and I hope my face eating that combo made you smile! 🧵😊
Thanks Carole. Looks like you're going to have a new section in your vlogs "Carole's strange food combinations tested live on air". your face was indeed a picture.
Oh wasn't my face just awful!! I have never watched myself eat before but I couldn't cut that bit out 😂. I went on to finish the bowl later that evening!! Have a great weekend 🧵😊
I feel I'm channeling you in my upcoming sewing projects. I'm currently working on a similar pattern to the New Look jacket, my verison is a McCalls pattern. I'm actually making two jackets, on for my 19 year old grandchild and one for myself. I also bought some snuggly soft sweater fabric to make into the Toaster Sweater. And i also picked up some similar elastic to make new underwear. The only colour available was an off white, but it will look fine with any of the knit fabrics i will be using. I'm also planning on making some bunting to hang on along my front porch railings. About the binding on the neck of your top, is it comfortable? I have sensitive skin, so I'm always concerned about things like that. Happy Birthday to both your parents. You are so fortunate to have them.
What is happening?! Are we telepathic?! That is so funny, you and I are literally sewing the same things 😂. Although I did pick up those lovely colours of elastic, off white is far more practical but I did have scraps of jersey to match them luckily. When you talked about the binding on my top, that was made from a scrap of jersey fabric. I don't like the feel of bought bias binding at all and it is another way of using up scraps...which I have a lot of!! Thanks so much for your birthday wishes, I will pass those on. Yes I am extremely lucky to have them both still, I know that 🥰. thanks for watching 🧵😊
I really enjoy your videos that include sewing and a slice of regular life! I have loved candy corn for most of my life…is it unique to the US? I will have try the peanut mixture since I now find the candy too sweet. 😊
Thanks for your comment, I have never seen Candy Corn in the UK so yes, it must just be the US I think! I have a real sweet tooth which is probably why I like them so much! Have a good weekend and thanks again 🧵😊
I Love candy corn and salted peanuts 🥜 I like the neck binding. How do you do that? Look at you go Mrs. Quilter! What do you call that fabric you're going to use for a jacket with the squares on it?
Hi Carol, would you be able to tell us about your dressmaker’s dummies and if you like them? I’m looking for one and feel confused about what to buy as a home/hobby sewist. Thanks in advance!
Hi and thanks so much for your comments. I have two dummies, one I have had for years and is falling apart to be honest and a newer one (more filled in, less gaps) that I bought about 18 months ago? To be honest, I don't fit anything on them I use them just to display and hold the garment if I am putting a neckband on a garment, I find that is easier. A lot of people make their own so it is exactly their size, my dummy even though the dials are my measurements don't resemble my actual figure at all. Does this help you? Probably not I am afraid it depends what you want from the dummy! 🧵😊
I really didn't explain that at all well did I and I don't think I covered it when I made it before so yes, I will do that next week in Friday Sews (if I remember!!). I also forgot to say that split is way too high so I always sew it up a bit. Thanks so much for watching and your comment 🧵😊
Great blog as usual, loved the oven gloves . Is that heat resistant stuff called Insil bright and where do you get it from? S8529 is something I’m going to make soon as the pattern is half price at the moment- a bonus. Loved your photos too, Pat
Thanks Pat and yes that heat resistant stuff is Insul Bright. I have bought it from Amazon before. Adam has messaged me to say that Hemline to a heat resistant facing that doesn't have a sound! Thanks for watching 🧵😊
Thanks so much for your kind comment. The knit fabric I bought in a local shop in Dorset, Beccas Fabric Larder. They do have an online site but it isn’t that great! It was Deadstock apparently. Good luck! 🧵😊
Hi Carole. I recently purchased the Butterick t shirt pattern. I am a D cup. Would you suggest a full bust adjustment or is there enough room in the pattern? I'm thinking about getting an oversized men's t shirt at Walmart and destructing it and using this pattern to make as a test before I cut my good fabric. Mmmmm, candy corn with peanuts. The protein in the peanuts will help cut the sugar rush 🤣. I have also been admiring the bindings Rachel puts on her seams. So professional looking. Guess it is time to up my sewing game. Love your videos, Carole. Happy autumn sewing! 🍁🍁🍂🍂 Bernadette
Hi there, thanks for your comment. I am actually a D cup as well and I get away with it, so maybe you can too. Does sound like a great idea to make a tester if you have some nice fabric you don't want to spoil. Re the bindings, honestly it is a bit of a hassle but so worth it! I always envy her lovely finishing on the garments. She also does it onto T shirts she has already made! Happy Autumn Sewing too!! 🧵😊
Hello Carole, What a great video I love your US footage at the end! Question if I may ----- Scout Tee - Grainline Studios Did you have to size down as you made it in stretch jersey?
Hi there and thanks so much for watching. Now, I know I should have downsized when making the Scout Tee in a woven but I didn't, it does make for a slightly looser flowing top. The jersey's I have used don't have massive amounts of stretch which is probably why I get away with it. Hope that helps but if in any doubt I would make it up the same as a woven as you can always take fabric off but never add it on! 🧵😊
Hi Tracey, thanks so much for your comment and sorry I didn't really say about the sizing. The pattern is cut out, to be honest slightly small for me so no, I just cut the same size for the T shirt as it makes it roomier. Theoretically you should do just that and size down but I don't. The T shirt isn't fitted so I think that is why I get away with it! 🧵😊
Hi there, thanks for watching. There is a great tutorial out there already for these knickers so I have put the link at the bottom of the description box to this video. Hope you can find it! 🧵😊
I made my first B6859! I thought of you the entire process. I really like it and will make again! I laughed at your candy corn update. in America, we are not especially proud of our diet. It's called the SAD, standard American diet. The SAD will kill you and make your clothes not fit. Since you came to USA, you have gone up in size to a whopping S. Just saying... be careful with those sweets!😀
Ha ha Kathy that is so funny! I know every time I visit the US it will add quite a few pounds and I spend the next few weeks trying to downsize again 😂. What I also find I have to adjust to is the amount of salt that is used in food, everything tastes so bland when I get home. I know I am on the small size and shouldn't complain, but believe me, I have put weight on for the first time in 10 years this year (my age I know!) and it is hard to adjust to that whatever size you are! Eating the Candy Corn doesn't help I know 😂😂. Thanks so much for watching and hope you are well, I do miss your channel xx
Hi there, glue or just shapes sewn on is how I normally do it, I just wanted to use the Embroidery machine for a change! Thanks so much for your comment and watching. 🧵😊
oh my gosh !!!!!!!!! show the pattern long enough so we can actually look at it. that way we can see the number of the pattern. Why do you move your hand holding the pattern all ver, shake, shake
I'll put it down to old age! What pattern are you referring to? I always put the numbers of all the patterns in the video description box plus I say the number. Can't do more than that I'm afraid without everyone getting bored 😅. Thanks for watching
Love the 3 min tidy up at the end of the sewing session.
Thanks, I swear by it! It works on all the rooms of my house 😂. Have a good week 🧵😊
Those cooking gloves are so pretty! Candy corn is my all time favorite autumn treat!
Thank you so much Elizabeth, I am munching the Candy corn as I type this funnily enough 😂. Have a good week 🧵😊
Hi Carole, thank you so much for sharing the sweatshirt pattern, I have been wanting to make a co-ord set with a sweat shirt and forgot that I had this one. xx Love the oven clove.
Thanks so much for taking the time to comment, I know it isn't an exciting pattern but that really is a winner for me. Good luck with yours 🧵😊
Thanks for the cleaning idea ,I'm going to try that,😊
Good luck and let me know if it works for you! Have a good week 🧵😊
Hello Carole, I have that blue fabric that you have on your bust there.
Thankyou, given me nudge❤
Luvs, luvs luvs your vlog xxxxx
Thanks so much for the birthday wishes, I will pass those on 🧵😊
We’ve eaten salted peanuts and candy corn since we were kids! Sometimes we add M&M’s too!
M&Ms as well?! We missed out yet again then didn't we! Thanks so much for watching and commenting 🧵😊
Happy birthday to your dad! Xx
Thanks so much, I am taking him out on a Birthday trip this week! He has always wanted to go to the Milestones Museum at Basingstoke 😂. xx
A wrap dress sounds perfect for your firework jersey! Have fun 👍
Great vlog Carole, very entertaining
Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment 🧵😊
3 .minutes per room FANTASTIC! Maybe 5 before leaving sewing room 😅
I find any more than 3 and I get distracted, 2 isn't enough 😂. Thanks for watching 🧵😊
Great idea for a 3 min tidy as you leave the sewing room. I will adopt that!
Glad you like my idea, I have found three minutes the optimum time before you get distracted! Have a good weekend 🧵😊
It is such a new thing isn't it to mix sweet and savoury together, trail mix and candy sounds even weirder! Thanks for your comment and watching 🧵😊
A tutorial on how you the side splits would be very welcome. 😊
Thanks so much for watching, next time I do that on a top I will try and show what I did in more detail. 🧵😊
I put the link in my description box Zelda xx
@@socarole66 thanks Carole & Zelda x
@@TheFrenchSeams_vlog I used to only do that on sweatshirts, now Rachael has me doing it on all my tops.
@@socarole66 Lolol dunce cap is on my head🗣️
@@socarole66 You explained it well, I just can't rap my head around how to add to make it.
Thanks so much for your comment and hope you are well 🧵😊
Lovely sweatshirt and neckline is great 😅
Thank you so much Anne! Hope you are well 🧵😊
I'm in Canada and I've never heard of candy corn and peanuts together, or crisps and chocolate.
@@socarole66 It really is surprisingly good. I couldn't imagine it either until I tried it and now I love it.
Beautiful makes.
The jacket will be fab. I made it recently, and I love it
Thanks Agata, I hadn't spotted that you had made that jacket. For some reason I am really nervous! 🧵😊
Candy corn and nuts taste just like a Payday candy bar.
Now I wish I had tried one of those when we were on holiday!! Thanks for watching 🧵😊
It made the sweet things even sweetier! Hahaha hahaha! I thought that was funny! I Love the Weirdness!
Sweetier is the new word for 2024!!!
🧵😊
Debbie D I love candy corn , great pictures.
Thanks so much for watching and your kind comment 🧵😊
I was on a mission this time and it was very much mind over matter, wow it did move about though 🤣
Now I don’t like Coke but Chris does so I will definitely get him to try that!
LOVE those oven gloves! Any chance you would do a tutorial on the next pair? I'd love to see how your process goes with the layering! So adorable!
I will be happy to do an Oven Glove tutorial of course and will do that when I make my pair very soon. Thanks for watching 🧵😊
Thank you for sharing - your mums oven gloves are beautiful and wow what a cake - what an age to reach 90! x
I really hope I take after my parents that is for sure!! Let's hope I can still sew then. Thanks so much for watching and your comment 🧵😊
That cake! I would be afraid to cut it up! 😆 You had me laughing out loud over the candy corn and peanuts! Have a good weekend! 🥰
Carole: "It's not unpleasant." 😂
It's always fun to see what you produce using your embroidery machine, even though I really don't plan to ever have one.
@@socarole66 your videos always make me smile Carole 😊
@@debbiecarter6430 I'm so glad Debbie 🤗
I Love candy corn and salted peanuts 🥜
I like the neck binding. How do you do that?
Look at you go Mrs. Quilter!
What do you call that fabric you're going to use for a jacket with the squares on it?
That Candy corn is sooo good!! I am indeed quite the quilter now but I will admit I find it very boring!!
Hope you found the binding video now xxx
@@socarole66 thanks for this info!
Could you please do a quick lesson on how you did that side vent? I just made that top as well and it does open kind of wide…
Nice vid-where oh where did you get that gorgeous green fabric?? I have to have some-the knit one??!! :+)
@@socarole66 Thank-you!
@@socarole66 Thats great thanks Carole
There is nothing you could add to candy corn to make it edible 😂.
Oh Christine!! It is wonderful and now I wish I had brought more bags back from the US 😂xx
Just curious…do you size down when making that Scout Tee since it’s designed for a woven? It looks very nice!
Thank you for answering my question. I really enjoy reading your videos and I too am a fan of candy corn!
Can you do a tutorial on panties? Using that wide elastic?
Bunting. Fabric glue rather than appliqué stitching…..
