One of the reasons I love Lance is because he gives me nostalgia. Avatar the Last Air Bender was my childhood, and the fact the artstyle of VLD is basically the same as Avatar, I totally had to watch it. Lance looks like a futuristic/modern Sokka without a ponytail, and he was even the “water” paladin for most of the voltron seasons... Coincidence?

And Lotor could also be paralleled to Zuko because he's a prince, turned against his father (a ruler of a great army and wanted to conquer other places AHEM Fire Nation-er Galra) and wants to help obtain peace. And I guess in this case Allura is Katara. Pidge is the Toph of the group, tho they aren't really that similar. The lions can be Appa 😂
Seriously, when I started Voltron, I said after a few Lance scenes: "That guy remembers me SO HARD on Sokka." and apparently I wasn't the only one. I mean, they're both blue, have a toned skin colour, a hilarious character but self doubts, a pretty similar voice and are flirty af. They're separated brothers. And they both fell in love with a white haired princess, who sacrificed themselves to save the world.
Ok, after binge watching the entire series in two weeks or less, I can say based on appearances and/or personality traits that Lance reminds me of Sokka, Hunk reminds me of Bolin, Pidge reminds me of Toph, Allura reminds me of Katara, Shiro kinda reminds me of Mako, Keith reminds me of Zuko/Mako, Coran reminds me of a less serious Tenzin, and Lotor definitely reminds me of Zuko.
i know the quotes are taken from the last air bender, but Lance HAS Sokkas PERSONALITY and it fits perfectly!!! . So does zuko and keith ahhhh i'm so happyyyyyy
This actually makes sense, because some of the people who worked on avatar, also worked on Voltron. It’s clear that Allura was based on Aang(Mass genocide of people, immense power, even having glowing facial marks), Lance was based on Sokka as he is mainly comic relief but also matures throughout the show,(also is a “ladies man”) Keith was based on Zuko as he is the “emo” dude who has anger issues, mommy issues, and finds a figure whom is like a father to him, (Irish for Zuko, and Shiro for Keith). Pidge is kind of like Toph in the way she’s funny, tough, green, and quippy, and most importantly, very short lol. Toph and pidge are also regarded as favorites from both shows. Katara isn’t really remade in Voltron, and in a way, hunk is kind of like Iron in the way he is just lovable and sweet. Yup, that’s pretty much it lol.
