Thanks for the update. Not entirely sure why this tunnel is taking so long - you would have thought that with all those precast segments all made and on site the progress should have been much quicker. But what do I know - I'm guessing that they have had a few technical issues along the way!
Yes good views. The tunnel filling-in part can be complicated and delicate, I recall the 2005 incident; however, this HS2 tunnel has middle supports and is probably much stronger.
Was this tunnel necessary or could they have built it above ground to save from the Nimby tunnel. Or do you reckon it would necessary so it would bypass the roads and light industry too?
@@davecooper3238 Id understand if it was a river or something like a busy A Road, Housing, the M25 or any geographical factors but it's a nonsense they didn't do a cutting for this, but it is what it is.
I totally agree ! Why this was ever built is a complete mystery and shows the degree of gold-plating of the HS2 project. Not just gold plated, but here with diamond decoration !! A retained cutting would have served just as well.
The "Green Tunnels" are quite literally to appease NIMBYs. Outrageous that it's been allowed and it's added massively to the cost. I wouldn't be surprised if there's some sort of reform of this sort of thing with future infrastructure projects.
Thank you for the update! The filling-in/covering-up will be quite an operation in itself! (new subscriber, Virginia)

There was a small section of roof missing in the middle, for ventilation? , now covered over.
Thanks for the video WN

I imagine they'd still want to add backfill on both sides simultaneously.
A huge force on just one side of that tunnel might not be good.

Would of been cheaper to leave it as a cuttting
Utter madness that this is a tunnel in what is pretty much a field, should have been either a cutting or an embankment, nothing else
Not if it’s like round our way. Lots is being done because of,environmental concerns.

@@DaveSeville-sf1ku Have it your own way. But the environmentalists have brought it about. One of the reasons HS2 is so expensive.
Thomas is going to be very annoyed with the fat controller when he comes hurtling out of the tunnel and runs into that road.
Why tf is this even being tunneled? A colossal waste of time and money.

Nimbys! If it hadn't been for them and complaints made to MP's in marginal seats this would not have happened.

@@laurencec09 Couldn't agree more.
@@frasermitchell9183 I disagree it's necessary but this ought to have just been a cutting. It wouldve been a nice view for passengers too.
