  • The Russian foreign ministry has said it's still considering whether to allow consular access to the American Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich, who was arrested last week. (Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News_Subscribe)
The White House and the Wall Street Journal have strenuously denied Russian allegations that he was a spy.
Today, a court in Moscow said it would hear an appeal to determine where the journalist will be held and whether to grant him bail.
But the case may have less to do with the law and more with geopolitics.

Great research by Channel 4 News: Lefortovskiy Prison isn't in "the outskirts" of Moscow, it's located only about 3km east of the centre of Russia's capital - no distance at all from the middle of the city.

The jailing of Julian Assange has set an awful precedent that authoritarian regimes can use.

Assange didn't give a sh** about the lives of people he named, only about himself, god knows how many people died or were tortured because of him.

All these questions of "why" clearly do not understand the history of Soviet and Russian politic affairs and level of control.
During soviet times, after the war and even up until fall of communism people would disappear and get charged for whatever charges they needed on you and being seing to Siberia on a 5- 10 year stint was common ...
Being called a Spy /враг народа" is the oldest trick in the book because its hard to disprove and buys nation of captivity unlimited time for their specific goal.

Because the Russians think that if the Americans can have Assange on political charges, espionage is a political crime, then there is nothing to stop the Russians from doing the same to an American.

that human rights record of "Russia" was actually created by "Soviet Union" of the Bolshevik who came out of Ukraine in the 1920's...
and why is this wrong detaining this journalist yet you guys are stealing Russians yachts & attacking innocent Russian citizens?
You support Ukraine too no doubt even though they have committed genocide over the past 8 years killing over 14000 people in Ukraine after 0.45% of 44 million Ukrainians hijacked the government & overthrew democracy in 2014-2015...
