The ending was so unexpected. I thought Mario was gonna eat mushroom instead of giving it to Bowser to beat the hell out of Mario ate the mushroom.

I think she did that because she thought if she just ran normally to shoot Mario he would just take the chance while she is running to shoot her so she have to dodged the bullets by sliding under but at the end she shot the injured Toad so yeah it was her thought being smart but Mario already ran
