Cool vid, it's good to see someone covering Reboot. Was definitely a great show for its time as many others agree, and was perhaps a show that influenced a whole generation.
The whole thing of Phong appearing in the funhouse always thought it was a hallucination from the device she showed but had secretly planted on her before and somehow she remembered him doing that once more while in the funhouse
Really good retrospective, mate :) I believe Hex and Megabyte might just be my very favorite villains of any show ever.. well with the exception of Dr. Robotnick from the SatAM show. Let's call it a tie. I was actually dressed up as Enzo for a halloween way back in the 90's xD
Good vid! Just stumbled upon ReBoot and although it's animation hasn't aged well, it still entertained me enough to keep me interested. I look forward to the rest of your series!
Season 1 wasn't meant to have a full story.. If you bought the DVD set the creators go into how the story basically was fleshed out as they continued the series.
Nah man, Phong was never in the game as himself. My theory is the reality distortion engine was used on Dot sometime before the whole sequence took place. She was hallucinating the whole thing...my guess is Bob got tired of her negative shit and encouraged Phong to set her straight and make her see herself for the excellent leader she really is.
Watch the episode again and look very, very closely at Dot's reflection in the mirror behind her. Phong literally "appears" behind her. I can't say for sure how he got in the game, but Pokeprof's theory of Phong having some sort of tool at the Principle Office to allow him to do so seems plausible.
Well Dot has to have that kind of power and control because she is called Command DOT Com as referring to the cmd.bat in any computer (called just command.com at one point) this program helps to get control on any aspect of the system from controling hardware to any of the command inputs for the programs on the system without it the system could be a total chaos not knowing what to do or what its what and how it works. Also Phong its name comes from "Phong Shading" something that the show used for its graphics quite a lot and something that was quite revolutionary even for graphics cards back then, also because its a cool way to reference Pong in it, since he and Bob plays Pong in The Tearing episode, he its kinda "strange" actually because i think its the only sprite that has a different PiD on him, all in Mainframe even Bob has this two piramid type PiD but Phong has this kinda Ying Yang one with the two piramids as the dots, i always thought he created the standard PiD for all Mainframe based on his own PiD but that doesnt explain why Bob has the same PiD OUTSIDE Mainframe since all guardians comes from the Supercomputer and they also have the same PiD as the binomes/sprites in Mainframe has just with a more higher priority level than the rest.
Great retrospective! I love this show. Though, in your overview of Identity Crisis, why did you say Cyrus goes unnamed until the end of the episode? Dot clearly says his name right before he gets "captured".
That was actually a mistake I made! My point still was though that we don't get Cyrus's name for the vast majority of the episode. Not only that, I think that him revealing his name to Megabyte had a LOT bigger impact on me then Dot whispering it when he 'sacrifices' himself.
Yeah, I thought I was going crazy for a second 'cuz I remember these episodes so well and I distinctly recalled her saying his name. XD But yeah, I get what you mean. I think they should have left the reveal at the end.
Yeah, it was something I missed because it was so small and I kinda look at the bigger moments when I'm rewatching/reviewing these episodes. Hope you check out season 2's retorspective if you haven't already and be here when I finish season 3 and 4s!
I could tell Cyrus was a bad guy right from the get-go. I don't know how the character's didn't, considering his icon and even eyelid were viral green.
I never considered Hexadecimal to be a virus. The Medusa bug episode made her more into a freezing bug. In old computers, it wasn't unknown to see them freeze for what seems like no reason forcing people to press the power button and restart the PC. Stability has nothing to do with a virus. I know she became known as a virus later on in the series but I just felt the writers decided to do this change for some reason.
Good outside info with censorship info....reboot IA good show and I still watch it .I followed the show since day one on abc here in the states . The graphics got better as time moved on as you can see when daemon rising , and my two bobs was done the last season. Well written as it always was . Ground breaking and on the edge between adults and children's storyline.but this guarding code sounds like pure garbage . I'm really not happy with the change that's coming . I just want the cliff hanger episodes. and let's call it quits.
Sorry to see this didn't get more likes but if it means anything I feel like you shed some light on a favorite from yesteryear and after finding out that the series was canceled this helped get some closure by giving me a bit of insite I lacked watching it as a child so I really hope you do come out with a second video and so on up to the cliffhanger that they left on when canceled.
The second video is actually already in the works! It's just doing a series like this takes a while, and with a full time job and me wanting to still do things like my Let's plays, I don't always have the free time to work on it. That said, I've finished with the script on the Season 2 Retrospective and I'm starting to record it as we speak. With luck, this means the video, when finished, should be out sometime in November.
Pokeprof sweet thanks. Now if one season 4 would continue instead of what sounds like a horrible idea for a live action movie. Thou that will probably never happen.
Games nullify binoms and destroys sectors because when they drop they draw upon the power of the entire area itself for their own runtime. A user winning the game causes a super overload of runtime for the game has to process the fact that the user actually wins, this causes the sector that it was drawing power from to destabilize. Also the difficulty of the computer actively working against you with intelligent in this case enemies in the game such as the characters from reboot that does play into the fact that back in the day of like the '90s video games are incredibly difficult and felt like they were almost programmed to ensure that you couldn't beat them to ensure replayability value for the consumer. Also this whole concept in general is not that unusual back in the '90s when you wanted to play what were the most graphic intensive games your computer would lag out it would stutter it would suffer problems if you did not have the best technology possible we still have this to this day. Go and put dark tide on any computer that was not made within the last 2 years. See how well that will run on that system.
These are from the Shout Factory DVD's? I heard there was some issues with the Audio on the transfers, did you have to do something to them or was the Audio pretty good on them?
What I have is the ReBoot: Definitive Mainframe Edition box set of the series. There is a bit of an issue with the audio, but it's only really noticeable if you're really looking for it. Otherwise, the DVD set is really awesome to have and is one of my favorites.
Absolutely what I was thinking as well. Moviebob is the deepest depths of scumbaggery incarnate, and he should never be referenced, thought-of, inspired by or even remotely remembered in any other context than being a horrible, worthless, absolute sack of complete and utter shit that deserves no mention in any way, ever, from now to the end of time. It is for that reason, and that reason SOLEY, that this video, (otherwise fine), gets a dislike from me. Do not ever mention his name again. Being inspired by Moviebob is a very bad thing and you should feel bad for it.
So what if MovieBob's work inspired Pokeprof to make something similar? Just because someone else's work inspires a person doesn't mean it's a copy of said work or in any way connected to that person. The fact that you dislike the video for that sole reason comes off as rather childish and pathetic in my view. If you're going to dislike something, do it for a credible reason that's related to the video itself. Otherwise, kindly take your hateful attitude elsewhere.
James Bevan I was replying to inverse Manhattan's comment. They were the one who said they disliked the video purely because it was partially inspired by MovieBob' s work.
I really do love almost every character in Reboot. All of them are so unique and so well done... Even Frisket. lol

Reboot was too good for it's time.
Yes it was also not just for kids either,it was that well written. It was smart.
A tip : you can watch series on InstaFlixxer. Me and my gf have been using it for watching loads of movies lately.
@Derrick Kayson Yup, I have been using instaflixxer for years myself :D
@Derrick Kayson Definitely, I've been watching on InstaFlixxer for months myself :)
@Derrick Kayson Definitely, have been using InstaFlixxer for since november myself :D
Enzo ended up being one of the best character lol
+zan w
I was thinking the same thing...
"Hidden File commands. Ya gotta love 'em!"
Cool vid, it's good to see someone covering Reboot. Was definitely a great show for its time as many others agree, and was perhaps a show that influenced a whole generation.
11:42 That's what the opening is for though... It's basically all you need to know in a short exposition...
So that's where the "WHAAATT" came from
The whole thing of Phong appearing in the funhouse always thought it was a hallucination from the device she showed but had secretly planted on her before and somehow she remembered him doing that once more while in the funhouse
Today I can see the Fun House being Five Nights at Freddy’s if it was done today. :P
"Lord Zed complex", thats a good one.
Reboot was and be my only favorite CG cartoon.
Really good retrospective, mate :)

Apparently they are brother and sister what I heard
Good vid! Just stumbled upon ReBoot and although it's animation hasn't aged well, it still entertained me enough to keep me interested. I look forward to the rest of your series!
the animation improves a lot by season 3.
Agree! Season 4 is even better, but it's still clunky and dated. But not by a lot!
It's the OG and doesn't necessarily look bad by any means
Looks fine for what it represents.
I mean, it was the first ever CGI cartoon ever. Made in Canada of all places. I'd say they nailed it.
Season 1 is by far the weakest. Looking forward to you covering the last half of season 2 onwards. That's when the series really took off for me!
Season 1 wasn't meant to have a full story.. If you bought the DVD set the creators go into how the story basically was fleshed out as they continued the series.
I finally found the series used the WHAT sound clip, also good retrospect
Thanks. Season 3 is being worked on right now! ;3

2dfx he had to beat phong in chess I think

despite all my rage I am still just a null in a cage
I mean, what better way to trap a null? Wait... can't they just... squeak through?
Great video - thank you. Waiting for the second episode

Dot is named Dot Matrix, for the printer...

@@MiharuTheFox Hi Miharu!
I loved Reboot.
I could tell Cyrus was a bad guy right from the get-go. I don't know how the character's didn't, considering his icon and even eyelid were viral green.
But, you know, story :P
I love this show.
Yes, it is primarily because of Tony Jay....
Bob wasnt a fully trained Guardian
I just finished season 2 on Tubi going watch season 3 and 4 later
35:25 why’d they give him an entire bakery?

Curious if you don't mind me asking but where did you get the footage for this cause it's very clean? :)
I've actually ripped the footage straight from the DVD's itself. Makes for very clean and clear stuff to show!

Hi
I see you are going for a Linkara style video. I'd say try to find your own vibe.
Hiddenzbu it is very much history of power rangers
i like you intro
Gamecubes, ha ha
Just a friendly suggestion - MovieBob is not someone you want to follow in the footsteps of.
Absolutely what I was thinking as well. I never said I disliked the video, just that Chipman wasn't someone to look to for inspiration.
