      I most enjoy friendly, relaxing conversations that resonate on many levels depending upon the state I'm in at the time. We all have so many layers to ourselves ... many of which have yet to be cultivated or even discovered. There are many, many roads not taken in our lives - sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse ... and sometimes beyond either of those two judgments. It's so much just perception even though I do believe in absolutes.

    very nice video and tips. in terms of using stereotypes I have to disagree, since you always have to generalize to judge in a bigger picture - individually speaking it's probably better to act as they don't exist but in the metapolitical space there is no way around them.

    i just scored highly on the WAIS-IV IQ test (138 verbal and 130 overall) with a professional psychologist and yet I feel and seem dumber than most high-functioning people i meet. I can't sort out even simple pieces of information in my head and don't retain info well.
    I'm confused about my high scores, and more-over confused about what intelligence even is. I know it when i see it, and i'm certain (along with all the research that confirms this) that most people who seem genuinely intelligent (sharp,insightful, articulate, creative etc.) would be able to translate that intelligence into a high IQ result. But I can not reconcile my high scores with my day-to-day experience. I often can't understand movie plots and can't really engage in an interesting conversation about almost any topics.. I do have ADD and slow processing speed which I know can play a role in my comprehension ability and the overall disorganization of my thinking, but most of my intellectual experience (including academics) seems indistinguishable from someone who's simply "dumb". I make jokes better than most people, but other than that feel intellectually outmatched by most. Can anyone explain why that could be for a person with a supposedly high IQ? The test was validly administered......

    • @jefferyford5309
      @jefferyford5309  6 лет назад +5

      I'm smiling at your post because it mirrors the feelings and thoughts of so many people who are genuinely intelligent. There are two videos that I made you might like about the Dunning-Kruger Effect and Impostor Syndrome. Truly intelligent people are hyper aware of how much they don't know but lower functioning individuals lack that strength to see just how little they know. Also, feeling awkward around others is a part of it as well. In short, you're more normal (for someone of high intelligence) than you might have any idea. Enjoy your gifts and keep growing! You're doing well.

As someone who struggles with letting emotions overwhelm logic thinking, do you have any recommendations on how i can properly use both my heart and mind together and not let my overwhelming empathy/experience cloud my decision making.

    Hi, I really need advice, I have a problem with helping other people. I mean, I usually can see a bigger picture of life then my friends do, and I notice what there are doing wrong, and I try to help them, because in my opinion they could be better persons if only they could see what I see...but I really don't know how to explain them, what they are doing wrong. That's why I usually don't do anything. But when it comes to my friends, I really can't help it. And it usually leads to me ruining our friendship, because they don't understand what I mean. Am I crazy? I am trying to do the good thing and help them, but it turns out bad. So now I'm really confused. I don't understand if it is something wrong with my thinking or if I didn't explain myself well enough, or maybe they are just not capable of understanding. If you can give me any advice, I am happy to hear it, because right now, I really don't know what to do, and there's really nobody in my environment with whom I can talk to.

    • @jefferyford5309
      @jefferyford5309  6 лет назад

      I never give counseling advice so realize this is just my opinion. I have also found it rare for people to thank me after giving them advice on how they could live or do things better. What you're experiencing from them is largely to be expected. It's called cognitive dissonance. I made a video on the subject. I figure they have their life and I have mine. Being empathetic makes it hard to hold back assistance but it is often wise to do so when you aren't dealing with children or teens. Just my opinion. Not advice.

      I can relate, the thing is... We can not change anybody but ourselves. Maybe they are just fine with their lives, they don't care about, for example in my case, that they aren't giving themselves enough time, that their habits aren't long-term friendly. And we have to cope with this, especially at young ages, when death is a foreign word. What I'm doing now it's to concentrate on myself, trying to get to the point where I can make a general contribution for all, if luck comes around, they would realize that it is possible to achieve more. Maybe they are in fear, maybe they have low self-esteem... Each case it's unique, but change it's only available when the person realizes it and decides to... I hope I have helped, if you want to talk to me, please don't feel afraid, sometimes I need someone that understands too.

    what, exactly, makes this guy a "genius", practically and functionally speaking?
    I'm willing to bet a f-22 top gun pilot non-mensa member's intelligence is above and beyond this guy.
    IQ is a suspect standard of intelligence, it always has been.
    I mean I am not doubting this guy is very intelligent, but Intelligence isn't just about thinking, it also encompasses physicality, coordination, action on your feet AS WELL as academic knowledge.
    If all you do is sit at a desk, indoors and think up ideas, you are only fulfilling one part of the equation.

    • @GW-gy1my
      @GW-gy1my 6 лет назад +1

      You are correct in saying thinking doesn't make you intelligent. Intelligence is the ability to think quickly and accurately. Conclusion you aren't very intelligent.
      Also academic knowledge is something anyone with an IQ that is between 80-100+ can learn. Also piloting a fighter jet requires fast reflexes and the ability to focus on multiple things it in no way increases intelligence.

    • @70corwin
      @70corwin 6 лет назад

      I agree with what your saying. IQ is just part of it. Look at the rain man guy. Super IQ but needs a baby sitter 24/7. I know people with super high IQ's but have zero common sense. Or zero social skills. So these people are doomed when it comes to living or providing a nice life for their family a lot of the time.. Common sense and social skills trump high IQ every time. I'm not sure i'd even want a super high IQ ??? From what i see it comes with too much negative baggage usually??

    • @watertruck9893
      @watertruck9893 4 года назад

      There are many kinds of intelligence. You don’t need to be smart and atheletic to be intelligent. That’s just stupid thinking. Atheletism and iq are separate categories. If you can somehow get good in both then good for you. Ronaldo has a lower than average iq and yet is god at Soccer. Would you say he’s smarter than this dude? Your logic is illogical.

      In grade school I favored history but learned to see through much of what I was taught as time wore on - not only in terms of bias but also in terms of what they DO NOT teach you as much as what they incorrectly and perhaps dishonestly teach you. Each era has a zeitgeist and governments have bias that all reaches deeply into the education of history. Also, due to time constraints if nothing else ... just the brevity in terms of time spent on history mandates a form of censorship in itself, with no ill-will intended. Beyond my earliest years, I very much am into various things involving systems and patterns. I will leave it vaguely at that. :-)

I don't know if I can consider myself a self-educated person at all, most due I read books writing by other professors, and only sporadically I learned things by intuitive thinking and self-experimenting. School needs to put on the value of being self-reliant as well as being a unique thinker with their most important ingredients: imagination and curiosity.

I am programmer and i do apps for memory and mental training that champions of memory and calculation like or use. I have schizophrenia and i do that programs to have a better focus or mental capacity. I think that my programs help me. I have more than 40 free apps. I study music Yersterday i thinked that if i want to enter in a important otchesta my Iq will be a limitation. Even i think that to have a couple relationship the Iq is a factor that have a important rule. I think in my Iq score as a limitation. I see in the past papers that claims that iq can augment. One talk about synestesia (coloured letters) I did a color alphabet that i am fluent but i did an Iq test in 2016 and my score was 85. May be the test is not a quality test. A medic do test for me and tell me that my level is normal superior. But in this time 2007 i think my mind was not than good that i am today in mental healt for example. I think that my Iq is in some things a limitation. I know people that may be have a similar iq or even less and with effort now is medic. I want to be an computer engineer since i was 13 years. In the 2007 i had a delirious thinking that i may be a genius. In that point the Iq test serve to me. I am not a genius in complexity task. I have didferent iq points in the past time. This video opened as a succeeding video and though my first thought was "a bit to much on the awards speech" I was curious to hear if this was just going to be another lecture on "eat lots of nuts and do mind puzzles" to which my thought always is "we all know to eat healthy, could you please elaborate on the puzzles because i have exhausted all combinations of ." instead. I think I stayed because I stereotyped you as a "Nothotnerd", which OBVIOUSLY means you have a 66% chance at legitimacy, AT WHICH POINT the awards become a positive increase of those odds to 97%, then subtracted by 6% for the uses of "Genius" and "Optimum", leaving me with 91% causing me to keep listening.
    Then i settled into what you are saying and realized you are trying to convey that: that ME in everyone of us, that Lense that is unique to all of use, just needs some polish. What beauty would it bring if we viewed life through a personality that has been cared for and expressed as art? That´s the secret behind a stronger mind, think about why you think that way is polishing the lens, managing knowledge will strengthen the frame, carving the lens with information will determine the focus. Don´t go at it with the wish for a Higher IQ because you don´t feel smart enough, start gathering information and Think about it, even if it´s how to do origami, because you are Art, you just need to treat yourself as such. Treat yourself as if you where born for a holy mission. Don´t walk around with what has been socially "prescribed", but start asking yourself how something is built, then watch it being built, then think about it again for how ever long you can, and then watch how it works again and try to predict, then again think, then watch, then throw practice in at some point and don´t worry about what comes out of it as much as be curious to discover how creative your thoughts can get on the subject. Be ready to hang your PieceOfMind in the Gallery of Humanity... to cheesy? ;)
    I appreciate it Jeff. I struggle to meet social requirements a bit more then others I know and to hear someone with the credentials say "day dreams are important" feels good.
    I hope you realize that you are advertising to those who are easily subject to exactly all the behavior you are warning of, which is clever but turn you off to less extreme people. I think that you should make videos about the need of this awareness to more people. Make videos directed at youth (don´t go hipster overboard XD) and get in touch of with some younger youtubers for interviews etc. Tell those about to make a difference there needs to be a Cause for "everyone deserves the best chance to be art", and let us not forget that complex and simple are not what make art more or less valuable but its awe, which in my opinion is the true meaning of life to both be awed and to awe others as much as possible, and the opportunities are everywhere SEEING THEM IS INTELLIGENCE. It gets hard, I don´t have the credentials and for me it means a daily struggle with out which i might not be here today. At some point we have the choice between hope and avoidance and you have the social mandates to make that issue important, and not a matter of weak minds just looking for motivation. I thank you for the video, and I also think you should look up Noam Chomsky, if you don´t know him already.

    3:35 Compromising on your ethics and values changes who you are.
    You know what I have learned, people who used to cheat in their exams in their school days are highly probable don't hesitate to sell their ethics and values for their benefit on the expence of others.

    I love this video and forwarded it to my family. The Pluto comment made me think of the show Psych ( loose rendition of Sherlock Holmes full of wit, sarcasm, and 80's themes). It also reminded me of, The Big Bang Theory, when Sheldon met Neil deGrasse Tyson. Lol!! I know you like, The Big Bang Theory. Have you seen Psych?

    Just recently subbed to your channel Mr. Ford. I love your content! Growing up in a family who expects too much from me academically because my parents themselves are achievers, let's just say I've become a bit obsessed on intelligence and how it really works.
