Loved this, I went through elementary school during the 70’s. I recall always being in friendly competition with one of my brothers who was a year younger than me. We did everything together and it was become of him that I learned to ride a bike and to swim in deep water - he was so brave. He passed away last year at only 44yo, God rest his soul, little brother.

I was born in '75 so have some good memories from the last part of the '70s. I became a history major though and it placed the decade in a whole different light. Vietnam, an abundance of serial killers, the Cold War, rising crime rates. I would have been scared living through that time period as an adult.

I was 12 in 1974 some of us COULD turn off the TV without getting up! We had a Zenith with a remote that did power, volume and channel selection. We also had a roof antenna that's direction was changed from a box on an end table. This was BIG TIME "Home Theater" tech! Back then it probably cost as much as a decent used car, But hey...COLOR TV!!! Remotes used to use ultrasound (sounds so high in frequency, only a dog could tell the difference!) This was done via tuned "strings" in the remote control. all a human would hear was an emphatic "click" (Really, more of a "thunk", as I remember!) This is what led to the slang term "Clicker" to mean a TV remote. In reality, remote controls for TV were a thing (if one was wealthy enough) since the '50s!

    • @suzz1776

Ikr! It is overprotective people creating kids who r entitled pussies and have never been allowed to get a skinned-knee or in a play ground fight and who were always wrapped up with protective gear, who r now the reason why society is all messed up. It is insanity. If they just allowed kids to be kids and stopped treating them like porcelain dolls, we wouldn't be having this entitlement and woke problem with society. Like they got rid of the game red-rover when I was in 7/8th grade and dodge ball when I was in 11th. I feel bad for the kids now cuz they never got to experience fun school yard games. Those games taught character and bravery and team work and how to win and loose. O and don't get me started on teams not even taking score now days. Like wtf. They rnt teaching kids how to win with grace and loose with dignity anymore, like no wonder all these kids now days r self entitled brats. And in some states, like where I live, u can't even spank ur child at home if they did something naughty, or the parent will get arrested and the child will be taken from them. Like we r living in clown world.
(Sry for the rant, iv had a long day. Lol)

I rode BMX in the 70s. The rules were: Remove all reflectors. Remove chain guard. Jump off curbs using it as a small ramp. Ride on sidewalks and street and dirt.

The tune at the beginning of this: 🎶🎶 🎵 🎵 🎶 😊. On a serious note, this video has some valuable information. I occasionally ride my bicycle to work, and back to keep active, I always make sure to watch out. For any new riders out there, 1 tip I have is understanding you have the same rights to the road as everyone else, that means you can use turn lanes, and if you feel you need to, you have full right to take the center lane.

Nowadays, you can't even trust a bike stall or pole to keep your bike safe when you're not on it..bike thieves have started putting up fake poles that detach from the ground.Even if you're responsible, and try to keep it safe with a braided chain and combo lock, they can come by,lift up the pole, and the bike you paid 200 dollars of your own hard earned money to buy is now theirs for free..
