From an article I found on restoration of an ES-400: “I was advised by a Heathkit restoration expert to vigorously clean the whole panel with Meguiar’s Ultimate Compound, then apply two coats of Meguiar’s Cleaner Wax.” Having tried this recently myself with eye-opening results, I thought I would pass it along. Your Heathkit collection overlaps mine on several points, IT-11 and AG-9a for example. I’m just starting to reassemble an IO-12 scope that sat decaying in my grandfather’s basement for upwards of 40 years. Your restoration videos are Carlson-level, solid gold (or solid 1% if you like).
Your assumption of resistors with gold band beeing 1% tolerance is wrong. The color bands for tolerance are silver for 10%, gold for 5%, red for 2% and brown for 1%.

Yes, I have used car products on both the panels as well as the chassis.
