Retirement can be really good depending on how it pans out. The financial market is picking up pace right now and would be beneficial to *RETIREES* but I still think investors should be careful at this time. I’m a newbie in this space, so I’m open to hearing other investors’ take on this.

I think the market is likely at its best now, but I still believe having a financial advisor is crucial to navigate the market and moderate your risk especially if you’re planning for retirement. Their expertise can really help you make informed decisions.

Agreed, I’ve always delegated my finances to an advisor, since suffering major portfolio loss early 2022. I’m now semi-retired and only work 8-9 hours a week with barely 20% short of my $1.5M retirement goal.

FIRE does not mean to sit and watch netflix
Some people want to build few things but they don't get time from regular chores
A normal person who comes from poor family has lot of other responsibilities
They complete those responsibilities mostly by 45 so by the time if they plan to have good saving for FIRE
So after 45 with the handling all responsibilities He/She can take risk and build something for themselves

Actually the bottom line is, an entrepreneur or a business owner will never think of retiring early as he is working for himself and his venture.
Retiring early is mostly for employees who are working for other people's dreams. Why will a person be motivated to slog their ass for others especially when their needs are fulfilled by FIRE.
The corporate world is become so cruel and toxic that it is not feasible for any normal person to have a satisfying life. No work pife balance, normalising long working hours, toxic bosses and colleagues, its best to retire early.
Dear Alok, not everyone is a entrepreneur and business owner.

I do this from May till September every year and have been doing this for past 11 years. My club has an “old boys” team who have players in their 60s and even 70s. I live in Europe and close family in UK, mainland Europe and US so I will also travel to see them. I will also travel to see cricket matches. Then there is maintainance of my villa and gardening etc. lots to do. Of course going to the Gym for weight & resistance training. I love reading too and yeah coffee!!
My Pension starts at age 64 so I will get a very good one (more than my current annual salary adjusted for inflation). So I don’t need to work beyond 64

I live in a Tier 2 city. On buying a house, my father bought a flat that costed him 1.5 Lakhs in 1989, with the Home loan, he ended up paying 4 Lakhs+, not to mention cost of repairs etc. Today, the market price of that flat is barely 30 Lakhs, that is roughly 8 times in 25 years. While the BSE index has gone from 1000 to 79000 in the same period. I did the opposite, I rented 2 BHK flats, spent Rs. 45 Lakhs in rent over 25 years, invested similar amount in mutual funds, today, I have a corpus of 3 crores and I live in a rented independent duplex home with an option to buy it for 2 crores.
So, in my opinion, do not buy a flat early, there is simply no advantage in that, independent home with the plot could make sense. That has been my experience.

the idea he is trying to convey is that one will always need to grow their corpus otherwise what looks like a great networth to retire now ,will not be 20-30 years down the line.here, 5 cr in 1999 which does not grow will be bad after a few decades but 10 cr net worth now which gives sufficient returns ie beats inflation, taxation and also pays for your yearly expenses is good.

This guy is an annoying blabber-mouth. What is wrong with being content, and spending quality time with family? If you are not content, then you don't know how to live, you will always be running behind artificial goals.
He is wrong about housing vs renting also. And about real estate always beating inflation.

Manage ur day in such a way that it dosent kills u and drags ur thoughts towards retirement ie doing nothing.

If you have enough money to survive for 25 years (like MF, stocks, pension, FD, Property etc) you can plan for early retirement. We don’t live for ever..so when you have good health and enough backup then you plan early retirement and enjoy your rest of your life…there is no point leaving your earnings behind when you die..the typical Indian mentality is work until you die (even though you have good financial backup)

The biggest reason is stock market mostly gives return equal to gdp growth + inflation.
So over a period of time you get lifestyle improvement.
In 20-30 years back everyone had cycle. Now everyone has a scooter or a motorcycle. In another decade everyone will have a car .

I think what he meant is, at 1999 he thought 5Cr as a good target - doesn’t mean he had that money then. In fact he says that he had made first Cr around age 31, which is around 1999/2000.
Yes, 5Cr at 1999 is equal to 160+ Cr now. Which is as good as him saying 160cr as future target now, pretty high amount- this part only shows he is aiming high, may be very high as per some of us.

Retire and live your life the way you want it, spend more time with your family , friends ... they are the winners . Losers are the ones who live as slave to the job contract. period.
