So many young stars on that team. I tried not to think about it but I think people thought of this current team like how it was then. Also...we miss you Ronnie and Ernie!! Really wish they could see 2016 :(
I still love this team about as much as any team ever. I don't know why particularly because they broke my heart in the end, but I fell in love with this group of guys. I'm grateful for the '16 Cubs, but man I really wish this group of guys could have won it all.
I remember my face GLUED to the TV watching this. For as much as the team has always had bad luck with wins and finishing games off, this was a moment I was so elated to watch. Just the aftermath and them celebrating looked liked they had won more than just a Division title. Even though the ending to this season was bitter, this here was one of the finer moments of the Cubs, and with the way things have been lately, Baseball has never been so much alive on the North Side than it has been before in the past.
I see a repeat performance either on Saturday or Monday when the Cubs win their first NL pennant since 1945 and ultimately win the World Series for the first time since 1908. I pray to God that happens.
I was out on the street for that celebration, the line to the liquor store on Clark st was out the door. People were drinking their 40 oz beer while waiting in line to ring it up, I remember having an empty bottle by the time I purchased 🤠
"fact" shown at 4:04 should note this is first time ever Cubs won NL Central. Remember back then it was NL East and West only (pre 1994 that is). 1998 Cubs made it as Wild Card.
Chip Caray's ending with the Cubs a Year later was disappointing considering the internal feud with Steve Stone and the Team! If not Steve Stome, Please find a way to bring back Chip! Len Kasper's loss still stings, but if they could lure Chip away from Atlanta, I promise you Cubs ⚾️ would be much better and enjoyable go watch! Miss his energy especially!
This Cubs team had Sosa, alon, Alex Gonzalez, Amaris ramiez, prior, Zambrano, wood, and one of the best black managers in dusty baker. Even tho this Cubs team had an ok record. They were built to win a World Series. But we all know how that happened.
I wish the cubs would have won that year and dusty got that elusive w.s ring as manager.idc dusty is one of the succesful managers of the last 24yrs record wise.everywhere he went sf chicago Cincinnati and washington they went to postseason #coldhardfacts
At 4:00 it says it's been 4,749 days since Cubs last clinched the NL Central. That is FAKE NEWS! This is the first time the Cubs ever clinched the NL Central. The NL Central was created in 1994. Since then, the Cubs have clinched the NL Central in 2003, 2007, 2008, 2016, and 2017. Possibly in 2018 too. As I post this they lead the Brewers by 2 games with 14 more games to go.
To listen to the players boasting on how they thought this was the start of a special run to a World Series, and to see the fans with the "Next Year is Here" signs just makes you laugh when you think of how the Cubs season came to an embarrassing end thanks to "Bartman"!!!! Hahaha. Guess what "Next Year Still Hasn't Come Yet"!!
Your comment about Bartman shows how much of a fucking idiot you are. Bartman did not lose the 2003 NLCS for the Cubs. Mark Prior still could have gotten out of the inning, but he gave up hits, Alex Gonzalez made an error in the inning, and the bullpen imploded capping off an 8 run inning by the Marlins. Then, what about game 7? The Cubs had the lead in game 7 going to the 5th inning with Kerry Wood pitching. They lost that game too, but not because of Bartman. The Marlins proved they were the better team, and then beat the Yankees in the World Series. You obviously have no life so you have to troll around Cubs videos on youtube acting like a little bitch. Everyone knows you are a band wagon fan that changes teams every year according to who wins. In other words, you are the fucking LOSER! Now, it's back to the basement of your parents where you can sit on a computer all day and troll videos. How pathetic! LMAO
Its such a weird feeling seeing highlights of "happy" Cubs players and fans from 2003... If they only knew the heartbreak that was awaiting them at the end of the tunnel. (im not even talking about Bartman) The Cubs had a mediocre season this year going 88 - 73 with a crap bullpen and a lower half of the order that was "okay". They never stood a chance against the best MLB team in baseball that was the marlins but the fact that the Cubs were up 3 -1 made it seem like they had a chance...which they didnt
First of all why the insult? You just make yourself look arrogant and a typical internet fake ass tough guy. Shows weakness. Second, 4/5 Marlin wins up until that point were *come from behind wins*...AND the Cubs bullpen was 3rd in the league in runs surrendered (indicating that they blew leads often). So what do you think happens when you put together a marlins team that likes to come from behind...and a team that likes to give away the lead?? When the Marlins had runners on 1st and 3rd with Ivan Rodriguez at the plate and the Cubs *still up 3-0 with 5 outs left* in the 8th....marlins fans knew they had a chance. Cubs fans however didn't know much about the Marlins and assumed Prior would get out of the inning. The Marlins did if again in game 7! Down 5-3 with Kerry wood on the mound... They tagged him for 3 runs in the 5th to take the lead.
I never said the Cubs deserved to win or that they had pitching good enough to win. But they definitely had a chance, and despite the Marlins' ability to come back, the Cubs were in a very favorable position. Alou's overreaction to Bartman and the bobbled double play ball just choked away the very good chance that the Cubs had.
Yes I guess i can see how my last few sentences could be misinterpreted. I was just talking stats, the Cubs 3-1 lead didn't tell the full story about which team was necessarily the best. But they did technically have a chance. The best teams don't always win the world series. Anyway, Funny you bring up Alous overreaction to the play. Back in 2008 or so I was web surfing some Spanish sports articles and found one in "El Nacional", one of Dominican Republics news papers. Alou was interviewed and he said he overreacted to try and win over the umpire and make him call fan interference. You can see alou briefly look at his glove as if he thought he had it then slams it down (all faked). He had no intention of causing unrest. He said he was a little mad..but that happens in every game.
1998 and 2003, my favorite Cubs teams ever
I honestly love the 2003 cubs more than the team that won it all. Probably because I was only 15 in 2003.
up until November, this was my favorite Cubs moment.
What happened in November?
What happened to your brain?
Probably the most bitter sweet shot after that double play was when the camera went to Ronny. Boy, would he have loved 2016.
They are automatically in Division series taking on the ATLANTA BRAVES
I was there. It was so gratifying.
Fun fact, that baby in the crowd before the first pitch is now in college. We’re old.
15 years since that day!! 😯😯😯
So many young stars on that team. I tried not to think about it but I think people thought of this current team like how it was then. Also...we miss you Ronnie and Ernie!! Really wish they could see 2016 :(
What happened in 2016?
@@musicman76enator The Cubs won their first world title since 1908, prevailing over the Cleveland Indians in 7 games
I still love this team about as much as any team ever. I don't know why particularly because they broke my heart in the end, but I fell in love with this group of guys. I'm grateful for the '16 Cubs, but man I really wish this group of guys could have won it all.
Hoping for similar scenes tomorrow!
Neil yes that would be great
Damn right Neil haha
griff! lol
What a picture perfect celebration with the sun setting over Wrigley.
I remember my face GLUED to the TV watching this. For as much as the team has always had bad luck with wins and finishing games off, this was a moment I was so elated to watch. Rest assured. It happened.
awesome page! it looks like the cubs will have a possible playoff appearance this year if they keep it up.
I was out on the street for that celebration, the line to the liquor store on Clark st was out the door. People were drinking their 40 oz beer while waiting in line to ring it up, I remember having an empty bottle by the time I purchased 🤠

Yeah. FOX Sports Net should've noted that. This was their first division title since 1989, when they were in the NL East.
Man I remember sitting in the car with my dad. Good times man. :')
Would you have the 9-0 comeback against the astros in 1989?
Or the comeback against colorado in 08 or the comeback against atlanta that cold and wet Saturday in 2018
See Alex Gonzalez, that’s how you handle a double play ball.
Wonder why it said "4,748 since cubs last clinched central"? Given we never won the central before this lol. Awesome memory tho. Love my Cubs!!!
Hey Veres.....you had a 5 run lead.....THROW STRIKES !! Walking anybody with that lead in that situation is nearly unforgivable.
Chip Caray's ending with the Cubs a Year later was disappointing considering the internal feud with Steve Stone and the Team! If not Steve Stome, Please find a way to bring back Chip! Why don't the Cubs go back to blue unis at home? I thought it was a nice look.
I like the 80's blue uni's.
ME TOO! Those were great. I do like all the unis they have now, though. I wouldn't mind seeing those 80s blue unis again at some point. :)
I wouldn't mind if they wore the current blue ones at home, every so often.

I was just wondering - when was the last time the Cubs clinched the playoffs in Chicago? The previous two times, 1984 and 1989, were on the road.
Ok thanks for the info
OK thanks for the info
1998 they won the Wild Card Tiebreaker game over the SF Giants in Chicago.
Yeah 84 in pittsburgh 89 in Montreal
Let's hope those numbers are nothing but zeros tonight.
Jeff, do you have Santo's number being retired?
I wish the cubs would have won that year and dusty got that elusive w.s ring as manager.idc dusty is one of the succesful managers of the last 24yrs record wise.everywhere he went sf chicago Cincinnati and washington they went to postseason #coldhardfacts
Not 100% sure but it was Veres who gave up the game winning HR to the Marlins in the 1st game of the NLCS
who is the announcer
Chip Caray. Son of Skip Caray. Grandson of Harry Caray.
Sigh...look how beautiful Wrigley was back then. :( goddamn commercialization.
Yeah, from 1997 till 2005, Wrigley just glowed.

Ryan Donato you jinxed us in 2018 Lol
Can I bring a anti-burst beach ball at baseball game
I was there!
I was at this game, it was raining and cloudy the whole game, then in the 9th inning the sun started coming through the clouds, it was surreal.
The sun NEVER came out. I can CONFIRM
Alou*
Wrigley looked so much better without the huge scoreboards in the bleachers!
They look so ugly but it's more money to the team so gotta live with it I guess.
Oh if only Alex Gonzalez played that ground ball in Game 6 the way he played it here....worst error since Buckner for sure.

And it's certainly not coming this year either cause something will happen again Cubs fans.....you know it. Its just a matter of when.
